God I hope series 12 is good. The writing is in my opinion piss poor. The characters are very bland, give us a Sarah Jane Smith, a Donna Noble, leave political correctness out and bring back good writing, even the doctor (Who I was rooting for to be great) doesn't really have much emotion outside of amazement and awe. There is nothing to really make the Doctor stand out other then her being a woman.

    • Blap Bloppingham
Blap Bloppingham 2 months ago +1

      Speak for yourself.

The best (and actually really good) episodes were #1, #3 and #11.
      The passable, entertaining episodes were #4, #6, #7, #8, #9 and #10.
The truly bad episodes were #2 and #5. Both unforgivably boring.

That represents my problem with series 11, the balance was off. Two bad episodes in a series is entirely in keeping with the past. Virtually every series has one or two real flops, and series 11 is no exception. The actual issue is that too many were passable, and too few were good. At LEAST six of them ought to have been of a genuinely good standard, ideally more. Three out of eleven isn't good enough, even if those three were (in my opinion) extremely good.

_"What was the incorrect part"_ (deleted)
The incorrect part is that Lambert did not create Doctor Who.
It doesn't dismantle anything the OP said, as Lambert got the job on her own qualifications and merit because she was damn good at her job without any gender coming into play. The OP is referring to the infatuation of the media being obsessed with cramming as many feminist agendas above anything else into the franchises out there, to the detriment of talent and quality output because the agendas are seemingly more important to them at the moment, whereas before everything moved at a much more organic pace.

    • Adam Darren
      Adam Darren Month ago +7

@ouiouiouinonnonnon If anyone is 'altering the _facts_ to fit their view', then you've just come across one with Mark's ignorant comments. Verity Lambert did not create the series. It was created by three gentlemen, Sydney Newman, Donald Wilson and CE Webber. The iconic music was composed by another gentleman, Ron Grainer, with Delia realising from his music sheet and using the electronic equipment she had at her disposal at the Radiophonic Workshop. If you've upvoted the wrong information, then I suggest you remove it as it gives the impression the info is right.

@Blue Planet That prem guy was shocking in this as well, literally if you typed 'a plank of wood' into Google he would probably pop up. Tosin was kinda ok in other eps but in this he was really bad.
And I don't know what it is with Jodie, but good actors immerse you and make you forget they are playing for the camera. When Jodie acts, I don't get immersed in her performance so the whole story just doesn't engage me.

@Ewan Edgar I have to admit, I really did like S11 - It felt a lot like classic Who to me. That notwithstanding, I think any problems with the show are just teething troubles. You have to remember, with the exception of Chibnal (Whom everyone pretty much agrees, wrote the weakest episodes), have never written for the show. I think S12 will surprise many, but many others will just always try find an excuse to hate the show, just because The doctor is being played by a woman (present company excluded I'm sure)

    • Ewan Edgar

@Ewan Edgar David Tennant used a lot of Tom Baker's characteristics i the role. There's no harm in emulating other actors who have played the role - it gives it continuity

    • Gary Crook
      Gary Crook 2 months ago

@Ewan Edgar That's the way the character has been written, as Jodie didn't exactly watch Doctor Who before, or after, being cast.
Chibnall left quite a few plot threads, including something being wrong with the Doctor, which was picked up by the medic at the beginning of 'The Tsuranga Conundrum'.
Plus the Doctor has had no outstanding moments to show who she is, unlike prior Doctors have had in their first series.

    • Ewan Edgar
Ewan Edgar 2 months ago +5

Why though? Shes so bland and just seems if shes trying to be like some sort of combination of the 10th and 11th doctor but taking all the inner conflict which made them so good. She just seems so 2 dimensional with no development at all, by far the worst doctor.

    • Gary Crook
Gary Crook 2 months ago +1

@SJ9001 Dyspraxia affects coordination and fine motor skills, so if Ryan was making headshots from a reasonably long range I'd agree with you.
Yaz being a Police Officer is another loose plot thread for me. She could've been using them throughout, especially in this episode and Resolution.
I liked S11, I just felt they needed an editor onboard to make the scripts more cohesive and polished as well as deal with all these loose plot threads long before they got to our screens.

    • SJ9001
      SJ9001 2 months ago +1

@Gary Crook Ryan shoots pretty accurately for someone with dispraxia though. And Robertson definately broke UK law by possessing a gun within the border - it's a shame the off-duty police officer never followed him up on that.
See, it's that kind of thing that bugs me the most about S11. I wish it got its own internal story and characters in order before it thought about venturing into real-world issues.

    • Gary Crook
      Gary Crook 2 months ago

@SJ9001 Ep2, Ryan literally picks up a fallen Sniper-Robot's gun and runs outside shooting everything like he's playing an FPS.
Then the gun runs out of power, and he quickly runs back to the others.
The Doctor points out to him that the best weapon against the robots is the fallen ones power core, and then uses it to set off an EMP.
That entire scene portrays why the Doctor has an anti-gun stance. It's not exactly about the guns themselves, but about how people act when they have one.
Ep3's Temporal Displacement Weapon, I don't think she called it a gun, is dangerous as it sounds like it shoots you through the Time Vortex without any protection.
And the Doctor has said that Time Vortex Manipulator's are dangerous as you're directly exposed to the Time Vortex, just like with Krasko's Time Displacer, which can take a major toll on organic beings.
Ep4, We knew she was going to herd the really big spider outside, just not the next bit of her plan, when she was told it had gotten too big to breathe efficiently.
Truth is I think we all infer that it was dying and there was nothing they could do for it.
Not unless the Doctor was going to transport it to another planet with a higher oxygen content in it's atmosphere. She could even find a way to transmat the others there.
Except we didn't get any of that, just Robertson turning up and shooting the spider dead. (Though I think he may have broken UK Law doing that.)
A loose plot thread is the lone, dog-sized spider in that flat. We don't know what actually happened to it and it's big relations.
There are loose plot threads all over S11. It's one of my Bugbears about the series.
Yet I do think the portrayal of Krasko and Becca were just right.
Krasko because that story isn't about him. He's just a 'lone enactor' (?).
Becca because she's gotten power in a man's world and is only using it to maintain her position, consequently at the expense of other women.
We'll have to agree to disagree on how political or well portrayed the politics were in S11.

Timelords have real names but chose there own titles and the Doctor chose his to reflect the values he holds.
I don't think it's ever been fully explained but the timelords are generally quite a self important race so it's no suprise they use 'the' as opposed to 'a'.
It does make me wonder how many unique titles they must have though as I'd imagine all the good names would be taken quite early on in their history.

The show is broken. Change is ESSENTIAL but some core things must remain for the show to retain it's identity. Gender swapping the male timelords into women's bodies added nothing. We lost a great classic character in The Master, replaced with the silly, wisecracking, 'Missy'. The ratings drop is due to poor writing, over the top woke messaging and currently a poor actor portraying the Doctor.

    • Demiligne
      Demiligne 2 months ago

+ *Blue Planet* The Doctor is the only recurring character who was present 50 years ago, and is almost completely unrecognisable. Doctor Who *needs* change. And the show was almost broken. Ratings and viewership had been dropping substantially since series 7

    • Blue Planet
      Blue Planet 2 months ago

If all the characters changed as drastically as The Master just for the sake of change, in another 50 years the show would be unrecognisable. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

      Demiligne 2 months ago +1

+ *Blue Planet* If you watch some of Missy's episodes, you'll see there's always doubt as to which was she'll go if she isn't clearly bad. To say she has zero menace is entirely unfair in her earlier episodes, but the less aggressive she becomes is character development we hadn't ever seen in the Master before. If they hadn't done something interesting like that with her, she'd just be the same Master we've seen for almost 50 years.

In other words, you want to rob the rest of us of our favourite show because you don't like the direction it's heading.

Could be for a range of reasons. I'm not sure why it'd be removed over there though. Maybe the licensing expired and needs to be renewed? Or maybe they're moving it to another streaming service like they did here.

@Irrev77 i'm in the Netherlands. Was watching the show but they removed it recently. Assumed that was the case everywhere, but apparently not?

It is on Netflix depending on what country you're in. In the US? Probably never. BBC America sold the rights for Doctor Who to Amazon Prime.
