LIterally can't play and it has nothing to do with wanting to see my character..motion sickness is a thing and yes I would be more than willing to wait more than A year to have third person as its a no buy for me unless they change their minds about it.
What a shame I was sooo looking forward to this.

Yes I would wait, waiting isn't hard, just spend the time doing something else.
I would rather wait an additional year for cyberpunk, if it meant that it was actually finished and it's the game that everyone wanted to play and create, instead of some rushed out mess of a half finished game.

Yea i totally agree different people have different prespectives and i respect that. But, for example see at 2018 e3 gameplay demo when meeting with dum dum they put a gun on our face and the exprience would'nt be same if it was in 3rd person. Im myself not too much in 1st person but i got no prob just because i believe what cdpr is doin will be right. Even i texted them in fb to bring option of switching between 1st and 3rd person but they said its the right thing and i believe in them.

If we control a character; no matter the perspective, we ARE the character. Why did you think most gameplay trailers say "You play as [character name]"?
I think most people wouldn't have a problem with it being a first person game, it's just that it was promised to be a little bit more. Now it seems like they created something cool, then decided to throw it out the window, only to then catch it before it reached the ground and taped it at that exact location so we can see it in a few angles.

I hate when game devs treat their players like children.
Just let us choose how we want to play the game.
Not everyone wants to have deep rp immersive experience.

    • JayJapanB
      JayJapanB 2 months ago

@Jesse Newton "And it's not like they orginally designed the game to be this way."
Wut? Their first gameplay demo said "This is a first person game" Then they clarified by saying it was a "First person game", and now they are saying it's a "First person game"
Gee, I wonder what perspective the game is???
That was their *first* public demo. Over a year ago.
That demo had a very heavy focus on how first person effected the experience. The bathtub scene, the surgery, the interrogation, the mexican standoff. All super first-person directed scenes, integrated seamlessly (literally) with the gameplay.
And no, not all games need both perspectives. They are different in terms of focus, visually and in game design. The Witcher didn't have first person, it didn't need it. CP2077 doesn't need third person.
Want a polished experience? Pick one. They chose first person. They made a game. Now you can choose whether or not you want to play it.

    • Claire Rostron
      Claire Rostron 2 months ago

@Jesse Newton The argument to be made is that players can't be trusted to play the game for the most enjoyment when handed certain freedoms.
There's a thing called the dominant strategy. Players really often take whatever option gives them the most reward / points, regardless of how fun that strategy actually is.
Third person gives a massive advantage in combat, and so people will naturally switch to it for higher effectiveness whether it's more fun to or not. Meanwhile, it damages tension and immersion.

    • Jesse Newton
Jesse Newton 2 months ago +2

@JayJapanB I'm not talking about changing anything but the forced perspective. It's a roleplaying game and people should be able to choose how they want to roleplay.
And it's not like they orginally designed the game to be this way. They got some backlash for sexy characters so they removed gender and 3rd person.

    • JayJapanB
      JayJapanB 2 months ago

Why don't you just choose games you want to play, rather than choosing games you don't like and wanting to change them?
Games need to be true to what they set out to be. Trying to please everyone is not a good design goal.

What I think is weird is that you've got this whole thing saying you won't be able to see your character, then you're trying to implement a gender fluid character creator that the people who would appreciate won't be able to appreciate because all the customization they put into to their character can only be expressed by a masculine or feminine voice in game. Dafuq?

    • JayJapanB
      JayJapanB 2 months ago

"no 3rd preson for gender reasons"
They are two completely separate points.
And we don't even know if anything has changed since the og 48min gameplay. That had first person with "very occasional third person cutscenes", which is pretty much what they are saying the game is. I'm assuming you watched the whole 48min gameplay. We've known what the game is for over a year.

  • ArmedDarkly

I was hyped for this game, but after hearing this, im not so excited anymore. Wooo keanu reeves, its cool but doesnt sell a game guys. Its like fucking watchdog all over again. We were promised so many things for that game and they slowly kept taking away stuff, and then we got what we got. So with that in mind, im going to wait. But ya, character creation was a big thing in my taking it away kinda killed it for me. And fuck the people who says character creation doesnt have to do with an rpg. Yes it does, unless there are static protagonists and characters, who the fuck plays and rpg in 3rd person. And the fact why have character creation but no visual? Just take character creation out then, there is no point. And the argument for half life is stupid, first of, they told you, you were morgan freeman, and they didnt tell you were going to have character creation in the beginning so no, of coarse no one cared about 3rd person. When you say things and take them back, its never going to be good, whether or not you did it for a really good reason. Honestly id rather then push it back to make this game amazing, and not get a possible rushed game, because again. Watchdogs happened. Take it as you will. Im gona wait for this game, because I have a suspicious feeling it may not be the game we all hoped for.

Them taking away the traditional "Male or Female" option fits with the whole Cyberpunk theme, it's just that it happened after the "controversy" and it looks like they are just trying to appease that group. But the problem with appeasement is it never works and they will just keep demanding more and more. Watch, I give it a month before they start demanding something else be added or removed.

The developers can do whatever they want but for me this is a turn off. They make it inclusive by erasing genre? If you want it to be inclusive let them choose a chick with a low voice or viceversa. Wait I get it, now you can have both boobs and a dong so no third person. But as ted said, there are no women with dongs just men with boobs.

Cyberpunk 2077 was never gonna have third person dialogue. They confirmed last year that all conversations is 100% FPP. The only occasional TPP cutscenes would be small set piece sequences like we saw in last year's demo which was about 30 seconds long in a 48 minute demo. I don't know why this is news. I mean the encounter with the Maelstrom gang, meeting dexter and the corpo agent were really well done in a way most other FPP games never do. If they keep up that quality throughout, I'm all for it.

It's definitely a bummer that we won't get to see our character as much especially when they offer so much customization. But, I can understand what they're going for. They've said and shown that in all dialogue conversations we have full control over the character as the cutscenes are gameplay driven and dynamic where we can look at something and comment on it for example or other characters will react to you. Not sure how that will work though.

Now, if they did the same thing for third person you have to ask the question if it would be the same experience with the same quality because FPP and TPP are fundamentally a different experience. I'd say gameplay driven cutscenes are more immersive in FPP while conventional dialogue scenes like in the Witcher games work much better in TPP. At least, that is how it seems in my head.

They said that they tried it out and it was just not working out. Hell, they even said last year at E3 that it was because of the gameplay driven dialogue scenes and immersion it brings, was one of the major reasons why they decided to go with FPP. It's a risky and a brave decision and at the same time quite ambitious. I can't help but admire and respect that.

We complain about how game companies don't take risks and tick boxes on what the masses want to maximise profit. CDPR is taking a risk and trying something new and we complain about that as well. We can't have it both ways.

Undertale's character wasn't really for SJW reasons though.
It was Frisk for several reasons.
    1. Ambiguous, it's up to your imagination what Frisk is.
    2. Old Retro Feel of limitations. You're not supposed to create a character, you're supposed to have one sprite with a couple animation type alterations, like stepping or from behind, despite Undertale being a modern game that isn't _actually_ limited by such limitations.
    3. That when you name yourself, you think the name you choose fits on Frisk, regardless of gender.
