Its always easy to say this stuff after one of the players becomes a superstar. If we knew how things played out Tom Brady would of gone number one not in the 6th round Drew Brees wouldn't of been the last pick in the second round Russel Willson wouldn't of gone in the 3. We draft on projection.

They didn't want a black QB! They passed over Deshaun Watson, pat mahomes and Lamar Jackson. Trubisky was a nobody in college compared to these other accomplished qbs. But al that didn't matter to mel kipper and his white supremacist friends. Smh.

No one is asking this question “Would Mahomes be that good without Andy Reid?” No doubt he’d be a good QB but he’s not putting up 50 TDs and 5000 yards on any other team than the Chiefs. That offense was a force led by a great/proven HC in Reid. Same thing with Jimmy G. Without Belichick and Brady, he wouldn’t be as good on the 49ers as he is now.

Hindsight is 20/20. Everyone raised eyebrows when the Chiefs traded up to take Mahomes. Heck, in hindsight I would have loved fo my Jets to have taken Mahomes over Jamal Adams that year. Though I don’t for one chance think Mahomes becomes the player hi is now if he’d been drafted by my Jets or the Bears. However, taking Trubisky over Watson was a mistake. Trubisky was the one top quarterback in that draft class about which I had the most questions due to his only having started one season in college a la Mark Sanchez. I always like to see at least a two season sample size out of QB prospects coming out of college.

@George L yeah we know that now? at the time Trubisky was considered to be a very good prospect granted maybe not 2nd overall but go look up the draft grades

Bears passed on Mahomes and Watson despite both them having more experience in college and better NFL combine stats because Mitchell Tribusky reminded Virgina McCaskey reminded of her nephew. Typical Chicago Bears office mentality.

I'm a Bears and Chiefs fan, so I knew on that Thursday night in 2017, I was witnessing a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence of the Chiefs and Bears being aggressive in drafting a QB. The issue I had immediately, as the announcement of moving from #3 to #2 became known, was the Bears were so easily goaded into thinking the 49ers were taking ANY QB at the start of a new regime with long-term contracts and many holes to fill before you bring in a "franchise" QB.

People always talk about how Pace missed on Watson and Mahomes , but they also forget Pace signed Mike Glennon and gave him a guarantee $16million !! Why !? Why!? On Earth do you sign a free agent and then turn around a draft high for a QB ? .. made No f*** sense to me , they should have just convinced Cutler to stay one more Year at $9million in the meantime you get another QB

The thing they don't talk about is its not always who you draft but where you're being drafted too plays a big part. If the Bears did draft Mahomes could he be as good as he is with the Bears coaches, complimentary o line and receivers and rb? Offensive scheme? Even defense? Andy Reid or Nagy?
Would Tom Brady still be Tom Brady if he had been drafted to the Bears instead of the Patriots?

You can’t cry over spilt milk! Mahomes and Watson will never be Bears! Last year Trubisky was an All-Pro! Utilize what he’s good at, roll out passes and using his legs! The Vikings didn’t get rid of their QB and he’s playing better! Stafford had a few bad years and he is one of the highest paid QBs! Give Mitch the benefit of the doubt! He’s still one of the best QBs the Bears have half for a long time! No, he’s not a Mahomes or Watson but how many QBs are playing at their high level, maybe Brady, Wilson and Rodgers!

The word Stephen A. is looking for is GUMPTION. Trubisky runs extremely fast but he’s running for his life because he can’t read a defense to save his life. What’s not being covered with his scrambling also, is he’s not built to run, he’s going to get hurt. There’s a difference between Aaron Rodgers who’ll scramble a couple times a game and slides every time, and how Trubisky throws himself into a linebacker to get extra yards. Mitch is not the same level of athlete as Luck, RG3, or Newton; and look what’s happened to those world class incredible athletes that scrambled in the NFL. Physically your body can only be in take so many car accidents level hits before you’re seriously injured or burnt out from pain. I said day one of the 2017 draft, we missed on not trying to trade back and take Watson, or we should’ve settled on McCaffrey. Ryan Pace does not get enough credit for this now dumpster fire.

  • Complete Controll
    Complete Controll 17 days ago

Watson was the bigger miss. Mahomes was considered a late 1st rounder, early 2nd round gamble, had the Favre type arm.
Mahomes is where he is because Reid wanted him specifically.
Them having the evidence of 2 Deshaun games against Alabama, in a game loaded with NFL stars, and passing on him was psychotic.
That franchise will forever watch Watson’s career and say what if.
Mahomes could be that argument for every team. Only 4 or so teams had him as a high pick. Everyone missed on Mahomes, they let themselves use metrics over the evidence of tape on Watson, and they screwed themselves and their fans.
