My dad has been to Japan, Korea, and China quite a few times for business. He said that Japan was the most fun. He told me that they work hard but play even harder, even on weekdays. They went out one night and his American colleague that went with him was a competitive drinker in college, so he could down an entire beer in about 3 seconds. The Japanese guys there were trying to learn how to do it and weren't about to let an American show them up. Two of the Japanese guys got so drunk trying to suck down a beer that fast that their pissed off wives had to come pick them up. One of the funniest things my dad has ever seen. He also said that they take their karaoke VERY seriously. He's got quite a few very interesting stories of his travels.
what type of job does your dad have?
@Amber Richey Nah, I need to hear the rest of these stories ...
@Amber Richey Everybody agrees in silence
@Harith Izzuddin The story is so good that nothing else needed to be said
Nice
The hardest part of a Japanese trip really is the getting there part.
@alex carter when your plane gets sick (america moment)
when your plane gets sick
when your plane gets sick
@EddTheBob that'ss clearly what he meant to say
@alex carter Legendary comment
So here is s story,
In my english class we were learning christmas songs in different languages for whatever reason (We did dutch, Swedish, Traditional Chinese, and danish) and of coarse, Japanese. Here's why it was the best (These are the basic translations for Rudolph the RNR):
Rudolph had a shiny nose
Nobody liked him
He cried every night
Then one Christmas it was dark
Santa decided Rudolph's nose was convenient (FUCKIN' CONVENIENT)
Rudolph was useful.
Yuh-huh.
Dutch? that's great! people never remember we exist lol
Rudolf: "fuck you all"
jethical b15 that's fucking hilarious
jethical b15 are you 5 year old?
jethical b15 this is the greatest thing I've ever read I hope you have a wonderful life!
"Good British boyfriend..?"
"No. Fucking British boyfriend."
I died, and Aki is now my favourite. 😂😂
@Thomasina Jefferson I can't imagine akidearest and chris getting along on a romantic level lol. Plus he still does videos with joey and that would be hella awkward.
@Thomasina Jefferson Not the youtube Aki I guess, I mean not Joey's girlfriend she is American no Japanese.
wait, i only watched this video now after like 4 years of watching this channel, she was her girlfriend????
Wait ... that was Aki?!
I really want to go to Japan and always have since I was a kid. It's such a beautiful country, rich with culture and beauty and one day I hope to visit. Only downside is it's really expensive to go :(
'As I call 3 times the disappointment' hahahahahahahahaha couldn't stop laughing
@BeardedPickle
ဟ
poor gal xD
The savagery of that!! Posted notes!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 Gawd I died for like 5 minutes after that
Possibly the reason why we don't see her again in recent videos? :P
I absolutely loved visiting Japan the two times I had the privilege. I was in the US Navy and visited Sasebo and Yokosuka. Great people first and foremost, great sights, great food, clean, just amazing experiences.
I can relate to your story on New Year's - when I was in Osaka, I asked a random guy on the street if he knew where I could find the next sushi restaurant - he just said come with me and ended up inviting me to a high class sushi Restaurant. Japanese people really are fantastic!
I love Japan, I went there in 2013 and it sure as hell didn't disappoint! I'll be going again next year and after my University studies, I am planning to study for a year and then live there!
Thank you for all your videos, I enjoy watching them!
I didn’t see any likes on this comment so I liked it, con you tell me more about your journey to Japan? I’m interested in going there one day so I’m trying to get some of your experience to use :))
I got back from a week in Japan on Sunday last. Thanks for your videos. I can't say I went to many places from your videos, or that they gave me specific inspiration, but what I can say is that they made me feel assured in my visit that that I'd be comfortable in Japan.
I really was, and enjoyed it a lot. Keep up the videos!
Actually your videos have sparked an interest, for my son and I to save up for our trip to Japan. We plan to spend atleast two weeks in Japan on our visit (whenever that is) Working on learning the language as much as we can, and always watching youtube about it. Thank you for your videos, they are very entertaining and informative AND inspiring!
Chris: *talks about conspiracy in Lebanon*
2020: "Well this looks like a job for me."
@Monkey D. Toriko
They start feelin' like prisoners helpless
'Til someone comes along on a mission and yells, bitch!
@Kyle Wagner Little Hellions, kids feelin' rebellious.
Embarrassed their parents still listen to Elvis.
@Synthesized cause it feels so empty without me
@Kyle Wagner "Cause we need a little, controversy"
J M just thought about that
Im actually in Japan right now, Kyoto specifically. These videos always got me excited to go. I go back to Tokyo in a couple days. It's really an amazing experience, I would even tell people it's an experience you should have at least once in your life.
Easter egg hunter
Huh, did not expect to see my favorite Easter Egg TheXvidr in the Abroad in Japan channel. I'm going to Japan at the end of the year and couldn't be more excited after all the wonderful things I keep hearing about it!
is that really true. are japanese people nice and fake? or are they genuine?
#Relieved to hear you are only in 1 city at a time...
:-/
Looking forward to visit soon 🇯🇵
Wow, really funny watching this again, I was in high school still when I first seen your vids. Awesome to see how far you've come and grown. Keep up the amazing work Chris
I just got back from Japan yesterday for my first trip there and this video has made me miss it so much. I loved every minute of it.
I'm going to Japan TOMORROW!
Well hope you had a good vacation !
Are you still alive ?
Crazy Viewer How was it man?
How was the trip?
poor guy :(
Love the videos, love the humor and you are on spot with most things.
Keep it up m8!
Thank you.
Ok then, you are responsible for whatever is coming your way. Have a good life bud.
Hmm,,, Na, i think I will stick with the Yes answer after all.
Listen dude, the sooner you admit it's not the better.
Most definitely yes.
''After all a 3 week trip to Japan for a family of four could probably bankrupt a sultan'' hahahah laughed my ass off.
I'm so nervous about my three week trip to Japan but your videos are making me feel better about it! I'm so excited too but primarily terrified.
That actually made me want to live in Japan even more.. it looks so awesome.
I love the idea of karaoke where everyone gives their heart into it. Sure we have that back in the UK but it's always in an open area in a pub for the amusement of others, just feels like social suicide.
omg Cat Island?! Bowing Deers?! I'm off to Japan. good thing I bought several reference books for learning Japanese
Hej hej Monika hej po dei Monika
Yuira - Kun just
xD funny story Keyon
Fun story about language in Japan: My parents went there before I was born (my dad was on a trip for karate), and there was a bus that was supposed to pick everyone up after a grueling journey up and down a mountain. My mom, of course, remained at the base of the mountain because she wasn't learning karate and sure as hell wasn't going up and down a mountain.
Turns out they brought the bus up, and the whole point was to make them think there was more ahead of them then there actually was. So here's my mom, sitting and waiting for a bus that isn't coming, when a car pulls up and this lady rolls down the window. Neither of them speak a common language, and after figuring this out, the other woman just says "Karate? Karate?" And my mom said "Hai" which was the only world of Japanese she knew. And thanks to those two words, this woman managed to get my mom back to the hotel where everyone was staying.
this is great to watch 6 years later, Chris is the same person now just with a lot more confidence when talking lol
There's so much comedic relief in your videos. I can't remember the last time I've laughed so hard. Every kind of laugh from a chuckle, to knee slapping, crying, and/or peeing or dying laughter. What makes it so funny is, the marketing in Japan is taken very seriously and with so much pride in what they do (things that in the US or in the UK is hugely embarrassing or just absurd) is just so well done that you can't help but laugh. What I mean is, this type of laughter is just genuine hilarity. It's not in any way making fun of, offensive, or looking down on Japan. Although, some of of their marketing is a bit...well....weird and *sometimes* embarrassing, but for the most part, it's just funny. I'm not expressing myself quite as well as I want to, but I just want to say thank you for your hard work, and, cheers to Japanese marketing.
I really appreciate the fact that you take the time to put subtitles on your videos. It helps me a lot since it can be hard to hear you when you record in busy places like that airport.
I'm gonna move to Japan, become an anime character and pretend I use to have a deep dark past, and as I look into the sky people will ask me "What's wrong Joseph?" I'll say "Nothing" and walk away.
Guts theme starts playing
@miguel はい
U live in Japan yet?
Hahahahaha
WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME!!!?
I loved this video!
I can’t wait to visit Japan, and maybe settle out there one day. 👍🏼😊🇯🇵
great way of presenting your experience of japan, quite different perspective from the usual!
Thanks for the motivation/inspiration! I'll be visiting Japan immediately after I graduate from university :)
Seeing stuff like this always gets me excited for if I ever get to japan(Might go next year during the summer with a friend for a month or so).
However, we're both tall(i'm 6'5 he's 6'1"). Anything we should beware when it comes to height in japan?
lots and lots of pictures.... like it would take you all day to get to sensoji temple from kaminarimon (main gates) and it's only like 2 blocks
You inspired me to apply for the JET program once I complete my bachelor's degree in a few years. I love Japanese culture and would love to teach English there as well! Your videos are always informative and fun.
Awesome! Definately do it! It's an amazing job and I can't recommend it enough!
Just came back after 2 weeks there. First trip. Life changing. Outstanding.
Japan looks amazing, I plan on spending at least a good few months here later in life.
That's it! I'm determined to go to Japan!
XD
watching your videos makes me want to visit Japan soon!!
On a recent visit to Japan we tried to bring back four of those "Jii" USB lighters, although sadly we were only allowed to take on one each. Even though they aren't conventional lighters, nor did they have charge, they are still classed as a fire hazard!
Knowing is half the battle - G.I. JOE!
Haha, unlucky mate. Awesome that you bought them though - I have a hard time finding them!
BrownShit's new mixtape is straight fire, dude!
Maybe they should tone down the indian cuisine tonight
Drew Sauveterre eh. I thought it was pretty shitty
And liquid
I really want to go to Japan. Sounds like an amazing country, and people sound really nice.
7:06 honestly it’s true though. Within the same 5 minutes I had a rib bitten, a friend had a chunk of her skirt eaten, and another friend lost 2000¥ to a hungry deer. They’re insane.
i remember watching this and the Mc Donald's deluxe burgers vividly, and other videos from AbroadInJapan and these were the first inspirations for me to come to Japan , how time flies !
After find your channel 8 years ago, I’m finally going to study in Japan
Great video on Japan, was entertaining but still very informative =)
Dude, you are a funny man! I've always wanted to go to Japan and this video has tipped me over 😀 great vid bro, keep it up
I’m visiting Tokyo on 13 September to play tournament Bridge . My second visit . Recently subscribed to your Channel and am
Impressed by the humor , content and quirky Japanese culture . Keep it weird and less stuff about your weight , appearance and personal problems ( which seem trivial compared to mine ! )
Awesome video. Just awesome. Loved my time in Japan last year, thank you :)
Love the culture! Beauty is everywhere.
one of the reasons why I would want to go to japan is to experience the culture and atmosphere. The other four reasons are in the thumbnail.
I use to live in Okinawa Japan when my dad was stationed for 3 years, it is really beautiful over there
Im looking forward to go to Tokyo even more now!!
Great Video! Been there 3 times. Can't wait to go back...and love that Robot Restaurant...It's wild
feel like the hardest part is leaving japan when the time comes :(
Man I’d love to visit Japan one of these days
I'm moving to Japan (Kobe) for 6 months at the end of September :) Highly recommend going if you haven't already. Do you have any suggestions on places other than surrounding Kansai region that I should check out? I've had the pleasure of going twice already, mainly around Kansai, but plan on going back to Tokyo area again over Christmas. :D
Also, I'm a new subscriber to your channel :) Love your videos, and will keep watching from here on out!
Ever since I started learning about Japan in junior high, I've been consumed by a growing fascination with Japan as well as some other parts of Asia. I shall certainly visit one day. For now, I shall try and learn the language and more about the incredible culture. In fact, it was a Japanese lady (my professor) that gave me the inspiration and support to gain the self-belief and extra boost to graduate from my university with good grades. She probably doesn't know but my whole class truly loved her and I owe her so much for her incredible heart.
"For 45 minutes you sit in a chair, and question your own sanity."
Lol XD
I have been doing that almost everyday for the last 10 years..
Not me I'd love to join the ladies 🔥
@Safety First Yes!
That basically describes every classroom I've ever been in
Mint Mochi 6:19. Nani kore?!
Just got back from tokyo today. Had a great time. Only problems I had was with sleeping, and communication.
I've been to Japan twice but it has been a long time now. I really hope I get to come back!
I love Japanese culture, always wanted to go for a holiday.
I'd just want to go on vacation to Japan for a month or so. :(
Looking forward to when I eventually go to Japan 😆
I never understood how Japan was once the most miltary based empire to the most happy place on the world
@D Jilla >WAS ONCE
Japan doesn't have a military so you're completely off base.
Because strong military = happy populace
chew bar ww2
Dont work in japan, go only has a tourist
I've heard a lot about the post-it notes white day, but I didn't know there was footage. Very glad I came back to watch old videos!
Talking about Galapagos Effect, I once had a palm-sized IBM (Japan) ThinkPad computer. IBM (Japan) did a lot of unique machines for the Japanese market. I wish I still had it, actually. It wasn't good for much except playing this weird game that I forget how it went, but it was very, very kawaii.
The key to going to Japan is, get someone else to pay for it. US Army, US Olympic Committee, doesn't matter.
Watching every abroad in japan video until I slowly go crazy: episode 11
I watched the whole video laughing and smiling, sounds awesome!
Great videos, If you're planning on visiting Japan for the first time. What would you suggestion be to have a great time ? IE: Where to stay, eat, Tours ect specifically if you're on some type of budget
Oh, man... I just got back from a 3 months stay in Japan two weeks ago, and I already miss it. Keep up the good work, lad! I'm already having nostalgia trips thanks to you. :')
Thanks for the great video. I am very excited about my own trip to japan next year :)
Your channel really makes me want to buckle-down on learning Japanese and go be an English teacher, despite it being kind of a weeb trope. It really does look like my version of a holy land.
This makes me more pumped up about my trip to Japan!! xD
LOL I love your show since you notice a lot of similar stuff in your own way that I noticed in general when I was living there. Nice to see a cool show about the endless stuff to talk about in Japan.
back in the day when I touring with UK bands in Japan, there was a cool little club called Edge End in Shibuya. It was proper tiny, no bigger than a council flat bedroom, with a bar at one end, a tiny DJ booth and a wall which every famous 90s indie band had signed. Mr Endo ran it and apparently I was the only person he served free tequila shots to, ever.
Jesus christ if that's not the most British sentence I've ever heard, idk what is.... I mean... I read that in a British voice
Post it note as White Day gift was definitely my favorite part of this video.
Headed to Japan this December and I’m looking forward to it so much
Lmao awesome! yeah man I've gone back 4 times just came back to US and I already miss Japan it's food and my Japanese friends of course!
I love visiting Japan. Personally I go to Kyoto the most. Not sure why it attracts me so much. It is pretty frustrating when you encounter locals who don't speak a word of English. I once encountered a taxi driver like that. Not a single word of English haha.
Great video! Been twice and agree with you exactly! Japan is Awesome!
Man i'm so tired of that ambiguous chicken we have to eat here. Its like they are not even trying..
I know right! Petition:
Fun Fowl crisps for new name here in the UK!
At least they died doing what they loved
#1 Especially true! Many people so easy to talk to and help. One instance, my wife and I were on a train that was diverted because of heavy rainfall. We didn't know where to go, and a schoolboy who was already late for is classes, took the time to show us how to get to the train we needed to get to and even walked us to the station. If you go, BRING OMIYAGE to show your appreciation to people who help you! We wish we did!
Mate I think you've been in Japan too long. Karaoke has made it's way around the globe. I live in Ireland and I have been to several Karaoke parties just like this at Japanese or Korean karaoke bars,. I have been to karaoke parties in homes with philopinos. It's not just Japan, and yes I see this video is from 2014 but even then this was true.
I UST WATCHED YOUR VIDEOS AND IM LAUGHING OUT LOUD RIGHT NOW OMYGOSH. HAHA. You're one of the most funniest guy I've ever watched. I'm a Filipino and I want to learn and know more about Japan so yeah, I'm watching your videos man. Its awesome!
Damn now I miss going to Japan😞😭
Going to Japan soon with friends. This video really did give me a good heads up on what to expect. Bright flashy lights, tall buildings, mind numbing commercials and randomness. lol.
I have watched all your vids and you are down hands my favorite japan vlogger
I think that Japanese marketing is so
Eccentric, colourful and exciting (that's another thing )
Is giving the commitments you must give to work and the removal of overall childhood joy and it's relatively frowned upon to act in this manner in many situations
(I am not Japanese and do not know anybody who is these are just from my observations )
great video thanks mate
though about british food, in other parts of the world it's the same
i've tried, hard, and found very few things i liked
but other than that, the uk rock on other levels ;)
Chris, top lad man... so informative yet so exciting. thanks again
As a fellow brit i really enjoyed your video. Hope to be in japan very soon
I liked this video right away after seeing the girl said "fucking british boyfriend"
:))
It as pure gold!!
dude I had to come down and check that's what she said, fucking hilarious
I hate your advertising campaign and your subscriber goal ; aside from that I think you're great
Yep
"Food, particularly British food, is considered like, rabies," I can't stop laughing lol
Thanks man! I need to visit Japan one day...the cat island and the girl/robot show is a must
My great Uncle Scott was a POW during WW2. He was piloting a bomber plane and was shot down, parachuted out and was found hiding under his parachute. Almost 2 years later, he came home. He was forced to endure in humane living circumstances, and weighed 100 lbs, but survived and did not hold a grudge. He returned to Japan in order to forgive, at the age of 95, during 2016. I’m going to Japan in a few weeks!
I'd love to visit. my only concern is the necessity to learn the language. although I'd love to learn, I'm not great at learning languages, sadly.
I used to live in Kyoto cause of college. My Best friend brought his cat so we went to Cat island when we got back his cat took like 1 week to regain her owners trust, and in that week he give him this look like "I trusted you"
I love Japan so much and I wish to be there someday any help please 🙏🙏
one of my top 2 dreams is to visit Japan...I dont know much about Them and Their Country but I already love them...
It comes down to trust, in Japan you can meet total strangers and you don't feel threatened or worried about your safety, therefore partying with them comes easily.
People are generally very nice, there is however a minority of middle aged racist Japanese guys who don't like foreigners and show it in the funniest of ways. It should be noted that they are very tiny minority and they come off as odd, not threatening.
Here I am waiting for Covid to go away so I can finally plan a vacation to Japan in 2022
If only I learnt Japanese when I was younger :'(
looks like you had a great time! what a time to be alive! hahaha
