Tsunami waves crash ashore in Tonga after volcanic eruption

- A tsunami has hit the Pacific nation of Tonga after an undersea volcano erupted.
The extent of the damage is still unclear as many phone lines are down.
Warnings remain in place for Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu and parts of Australia.

It was an underwater volcanic eruption so really only have to worry about a possible tsunami which so far haven’t been that bad.

@Sean Slawson the Fukushima tsunami was *at least* order of magnitude greater - that is kinduva important consideration. Rather like comparing a sapling to a redwood.
Really because when Japan had their tsunami and earthquake a decade ago, they seemed to suffer pretty hard, also dealing with a nuclear disaster, it’s nature, no one can control it

If you pause it right at the one second mark you'll see what resembles a colonial soldier in the center of the explosion. Lightening strikes the top edge of the area a split moment before the image appears.

If the island has not been wiped off the map, another blast is likely. Over the last million years there have been thousands of huge weather changing eruptions in this volcanic region.
@yru afredo This volcano created a volcanic island that may have been blown to dust over the last couple of months. The island was not inhabited.

I wish the best for all involved. Our world has changed so much. Cant stop mother nature though. I hope anyone involved gets through this ok. With the current state of our world this just adds to more stress. I wish you all the best.

There’s about 30 or so volcanic eruptions each year which for the most part aren’t covered by the news. Only reason this one was covered by the news was because of the size and the tsunami warnings.
