Tsunami waves crash ashore in Tonga after volcanic eruption

  • A tsunami has hit the Pacific nation of Tonga after an undersea volcano erupted.
    The extent of the damage is still unclear as many phone lines are down.
    Warnings remain in place for Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu and parts of Australia.

      It was an underwater volcanic eruption so really only have to worry about a possible tsunami which so far haven’t been that bad.

    If you pause it right at the one second mark you'll see what resembles a colonial soldier in the center of the explosion. Lightening strikes the top edge of the area a split moment before the image appears.

    If the island has not been wiped off the map, another blast is likely. Over the last million years there have been thousands of huge weather changing eruptions in this volcanic region.

      There’s about 30 or so volcanic eruptions each year which for the most part aren’t covered by the news. Only reason this one was covered by the news was because of the size and the tsunami warnings.

      Stay strong young lady, l was in same situation years ago. A big earthquake hit Istanbul, l couldn't get in touch with family or friends. At the end they were all ok.
