Imagine for a moment growing up in a word where a Burger King is a Temple and a symbol of the Western Culture. I will say this inspite of what the Polish have been through they have created masterful works of art I hands down Loved the Witcher Series! Wildhunt, Blood and Wine, the anniversary Witcher promo brings tears to my eyes and I cannot wait to see what piece of art they do with Cyberpunk 2077. I am hopeful that CDPR will not fall to the same temptations and fate that other publishers have fallen to like EA, Blizzard, Bioware and Ubisoft.

I love the narrator's accent. "Baldur's Gaith"... nope, it's Baldur's Gate :D And what is that "markesh" he's talking about all the time? It's fortunate that, contrary to the narrator, Marcin's pronounciation is good, otherwise this would be a very obscure documentary ;)

Love that a spotlight has been put on Poland because of these books, the video games, and the forthcoming series. It is a beautiful country full of culture, that has dealt with a lot of tragedy during the 20th century. I have family from Poland, my fiance’ was born in Poland, and we are taking the family to visit next summer. I see a lot of pride from Poles due to the popularity of CDPR in the West, and it is very well deserved.
    Great job on this documentary.

This document has brought back old memories. CD Projekt succeed thanks to their passion for games and I hope it won't change. Now we have games built arround sales and we feel drop of their qualities. EA, Ubisoft and other big publishers are too big to just trust their fanbase, they need to "secure" their sales and that's where everything falls apart.

During the Cold War, Western Europe was socialist, it was called European Socialism and it still there today. Eastern Europe had communism, both Eastern and Western Europe were Socialists. Now, Eastern Europe appears to be more economically free than Western Europe. The collapse of Soviet Union only affected areas under Soviet control.

Slavic games and stories always have that depressive beautiful feeling to them, whether its stalker , witcher, or the books in general. Its refreshing from the good vs evil\happy end or plain and cliche of the us mainstream model we can find around the world (exept when there is a "everything go bad" trend, for the sake of things being bad even when it doesn't really make any sense if you have a closer look). I like both, but id like more of this slavic stuff.

I was at GenCon and got to play a demo of Witcher 1 before it came out. I remember thinking that the controls were a bit weird but that the game looked beautiful (I couldn't believe the demo guy that it was running on the same engine as NWN) and I was intrigued by its setting. I've bought and played the hell out of every Witcher game since and has read all the books (albeit in Russian). Thank you so much guys for these amazing games and I can't wait for Cyberpunk 2077!

  • Drink Water
    Drink Water 2 months ago

I have only played the third, because I could not master the controls of the second back when I tried it. (I was much stupider back then than I am today, so I might check it out)
But I loved it so much. Especially the aspects of Slavic culture. It is very similar to our own pagan culture of Sweden, so many of the stories are very similar, as well as creatures and all that.
Now knowing the story of the developer I am even more fond of the franchise!
    And yeah. He is right.
I gave up piracy many years ago. Simply because I realized that pirating will hurt the developer. And if the developer is hurt, then there wont be any more games to play.
Thus it is an investment. Thanks to Steam it is so easy as well, so I do not mind paying for the games when I am able to.
Movies is another story. I am usually too sick or unable because of my disease and disability to attend the cinema, so I sometimes, although rarely, download movies and watch.
Unless it was not really my thing I then buy the movie as a token of appreciation.
Since there are really no great retail platform like Steam in the movie world, I buy them off Ebay.
    From countries I really like.
Hitting two birds with one stone, investing in the ones behind the movie as well as a country I like.
Money is personal power to affect and change, on far more levels than the physical.
So he was very right about the piracy thing.
    No disrespect towards pirates.
    All have their reasons.

A rumor exists that BioWare held a company wide meeting in Early 2014 to announce The Witcher 3 had been delayed. To which the news gained a resounding and loud cheer as Dragon Age Inquisition no longer had to compete with The Witcher 3 in 2014. How strange and ironic that BioWare, who helped make CD Projekt were so relieved to hear they were facing setbacks. It really speaks to what BioWare has become and the decline of their brand.

Still remember buying the Baldur's Gate collector's edition. Didn't know back then that was kind of their beginning, because they were publishing localized games even prior to this. CDP truly wiped the trails for professional localization in Poland, and their efforts for Baldur's Gate, as well as Diablo, had a big part in that.

The Witcher, or the Geralt of Rivia novels for some countries, was not unheard of around Europe though. Certainly not in English part for some reasons, publishing likely, but it had many fans outside Poland. I never pre-order games, ever. Except one time, and it was for the first The Witcher game. It was not quite optimized, clunky at times, the story was kinda like cheesy fan-fiction... and I really, really liked it.
