Write a limerick using this as the starting line:
"There once was a MARVELous Duck."

One: Speak up and join the conversation- we encourage respectful debate.
Two: Respect your community- racism, misogyny, homophobia and hate speech aren’t tolerated.
Three: Don’t go looking for fights.
Four: “Be nice.” - Dalton from Roadhouse

"There once was a MARVELous Duck." In a movie that truly did suck. The puns were so bad they made people sad. It even made PETA want to upchuck.

There was once a MARVELous duck,
      Whose film truly sucked
      It was critically panned
It was the worst in the land
So his career was truly well f&%ked

There once was a MARVELlous duck.
George Lucas did not give a cluck.
He wanted a kid in that suit,
So I feel dirty to root
On Lea Thompson to make Howard f+ck. 1

There once was a MARVELous Duck,
but audiences didn't give a cluck.
      While first bad, Marvel is now rad;
but still, the duck is suck.

  • SupraSanicsKrublAwrD Yee

Despite Captain American being the first marvel property to become a movie but for their second adaptation out of all Marvel properties they can chose Spider Man Xmen fantastic four nope go straight to Howard the Duck because hey with George Lucas in our side this movie should be better right?

I am always so bummed that this movie is so bad, because it really is a good comic. I'm always thought they would do a reboot, since we saw him at the end Guardians. Maybe not.

I saw Howard The Duck in theaters when I was a kid, like when I was 5. 5! I don't remember it and I haven't seen it literally in 33 years. But wow, did my parents not know the subject matter of this movie?! Sex, drugs, and rock&roll literally all here, and more. Not suitable for a 5 year old IMO; although what 5 yo would remember garbage like this?

This movie is not great by any definition but it's not as bad as the critics tend to make it out to be. The problem was it was played too straight considering the comic book was done very tongue in cheek.

First *theatrical* feature-length film. Thirst feature-length Marvel Film was the original Dr. Strange in 1978.

    • Les
      Les 3 months ago

@Matthew Young Very well. Ultimately, it all makes the MCU that much more impressive showing the actual potential of Marvel properties to be in great and successful films.

    • Matthew Young
      Matthew Young 3 months ago

@Les I'm positive. Yes, the 15 part serial adds up to a complete film. So do seasons of "The Guild", which was a web series that's now offered as a set of feature-length films on Netflix. That doesn't make them movies just because they can be squished together to form the equivalent. The serials even had separate titles; because they were written as separate episodes.
No, it *doesn't* count as a theatrical feature film. I very specifically noted that. That's why I said that Howard The Duck was the first *theatrical* feature-length film, and Doctor Strange was the first feature-length film.
No industry-standard system or publication lists serials as feature-length films.

    • Les
      Les 3 months ago

@Matthew Young Are you sure...think about it. A 15 part serial not only adds up to a complete film...but you need to purchase 15 movie tickets to see the whole thing making it a pretty expensive film to see...hmmm wonder what the inflation adjustment would make the profit of this serial?.....On the other hand...the "Doctor Strange" film from 1978 was a made for television deal...so, should it count as a theatrical feature-length film? It wasn't released to the theater!

    • Matthew Young
      Matthew Young 3 months ago

@Les Correct. It still isn't classifiable as a feature-length film. Plenty of films are shot back all at once. Back To The Future II & III; for example. That doesn't make them one 4-hour movie, that makes them 2 movies that tell a complete story. Same way with the serials of old. They may have told one complete story, but they were each written to be, and were, distributed as separate features. A "Feature-length film" is something that written and distributed as a single feature lasting a minimum of 90 minutes.

    • Les
      Les 3 months ago

@Matthew Young Yes, but if you string each short together to watch the whole story, it's a full length feature....That was the nature of serials back in the day. You had to go to the movies each week to see what happened next(usually how the hero survived the cliffhanger set up at the end of each segment) In 15 weeks you'd seen the entire film. Kind of the precursor to the miniseries.
