A message for our youth, for our world and for the people who raise their voices against humiliation and discrimination, people who fought for peace and people who are still struggling for it. This song has beauty which can't be expressed in few words. This song shows diversity, differences, struggles between us and in this world but most importantly it shows that until and unless you are determined to raise your voice, to take a step against the wrong, you can make a change. And a small change can make a big difference. Heads off to Shawn and Khalid for this, this song is amazing it gives a really strong and incomprehensible emotion which is utterly beautiful.

Instead of using his music videos to portray the “hot and popular” guys and girls he used people who have had self doubt in there physical appearance and religion among other things. I am so glad to see Shawn use his platform to lift people up and show them how loved they are and how needed they are in the society we live in. This video personally spoke to me as I have had physical appearance issues and kids come up to and tell me that I’m not equal to them or I don’t deserve the same treatment as them. This conveys such a huge message to the future youth. The way society perceives us as according to our looks, gender, or religion makes or breaks our lives. The youth may not always get what they want, but with persistence and hard-work, the heights we as the future of the world can achieve, are amazing. We can’t let people define us as according to materialistic standards because our hard work, in the end is what counts. What we do in our youth makes us who we are, and we can’t let anyone take that important portion of our lives away, because it’s so crucial. Well done with the message of the video, I’m glad celebrities are using their platforms to voice important matters.

I was stating that we walk around pointing fingers at others just because they follow a certain religion, but we don’t realize that not everyone following a certain religion is a terrorist or a criminal or is automatically safe to be around because they follow another religion that most of the world worships. Ok, let me set this straight first: I love Shawn Mendes and Khalid, and I love the message they're pushing with their song and the music video. It's a really moving video and it shows just how diverse our younger generation are- a generation that I am part of. However, despite all that and the diversity, I just have to point out that even now, Hollywood and music videos aren't inclusive of Asians. It doesn't matter what kind of Asian- Indian, Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Malaysian, etc. etc. They aren't represented at all in the video and other than the cast of a few movies recently, they've been often portrayed as bad guys. Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee experienced mild success in Hollywood film, but even Jackie Chan once said in an interview in China that he returned because it was more lucrative in China than America- Americans didn't like a Chinese face. I recognize this is a problem that African Americans faced as well but people are moving to fix that for African Americans, but have made no move, whatsoever, for other ethnicities (Native American. Chinese American, Filipino American- you name it!). Also, just a reminder; I don't hate Shawn Mendes or Khalid- they're doing fantastic! I loved the video. Just would've loved to see more Asian rep.

But I also agree with Ma Al in that they probably focused on specific youth groups that receive more hate, and are very negatively stereotyped or misunderstood. In this case, Black, Muslim, and LGBT youth. Despite being young and innocent with dreams and goals like the rest of the younger generation, these groups are often immediately ostracized or discriminated by society simply because of their skin colour, religion, or sexual orientation and gender. Also, Lost in Japan mentions an Asian country and the MV was even shot in Japan (I think?) with Asian people in it.

Shawn Mendes made his message so clear in this video. Instead of using his music videos to portray the “hot and popular” guys and girls he used people who have had self doubt in there physical appearance and religion among other things. I am so glad to see Shawn use his platform to lift people up and show them how loved they are and how needed they are in the society we live in. This video personally spoke to me as I have had physical appearance issues and kids come up to and tell me that I’m not equal to them or I don’t deserve the same treatment as them. Thank you Shawn for lighting us up and using your platform to portray us in a good manner and make us feel wanted and loved. 🧡

Ok, let me set this straight first: I love Shawn Mendes and Khalid, and I love the message they're pushing with their song and the music video.
It's a really moving video and it shows just how diverse our younger generation are- a generation that I am part of. However, despite all that and the diversity, I just have to point out that even now, Hollywood and music videos aren't inclusive of Asians. It doesn't matter what kind of Asian- Indian, Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Malaysian, etc. etc. They aren't represented at all in the video and other than the cast of a few movies recently, they've been often portrayed as bad guys. Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee experienced mild success in Hollywood film, but even Jackie Chan once said in an interview in China that he returned because it was more lucrative in China than America- Americans didn't like a Chinese face.
I recognize this is a problem that African Americans faced as well but people are moving to fix that for African Americans, but have made no move, whatsoever, for other ethnicities (Native American. Chinese American, Filipino American- you name it!).
Also, just a reminder; I don't hate Shawn Mendes or Khalid- they're doing fantastic! I loved the video. Just would've loved to see more Asian rep.
KattyKitty I don’t where you live, but you’re probably right. But in America however, African-Americans get wrongfully shot and killed because if their color, even if they are children. And that has been all over the news. So I think that’s why they focused on them

Mandy Yang I’m Asian, as well, and can sympathize with you. But I also agree with Ma Al in that they probably focused on specific youth groups that receive more hate, and are very negatively stereotyped or misunderstood. In this case, Black, Muslim, and LGBT youth. Despite being young and innocent with dreams and goals like the rest of the younger generation, these groups are often immediately ostracized or discriminated by society simply because of their skin colour, religion, or sexual orientation and gender.
Also, Lost in Japan mentions an Asian country and the MV was even shot in Japan (I think?) with Asian people in it.

Guys I think she was meaning East Asians (China, Japan, etc) and which I can see where she is coming from! Just a thought provoking comment nicely put with no hate or derogatory meaning driving it.

As a Muslim myself it makes me so happy to see my Muslim brother and sister including in this, alongside all the other beautiful people.
