They now teach "statistics manipulation" in colleges as an actual class. Now you know why. Sign your kids up folks. For only a few hundred thousand dollars of debt, your child will be well versed in the arts of thievery, and manipulation of hard working folks. They have had all of this "new technology" for decades. Start the arguement there. Fucking ridiculous.

I always told my kids, "Stay behind the cutting edge of technology. Let others with money to throw away, be beta testers and exploited by manufacturers. You can pick up those things a year or two later for 40% to 60% off what they paid. Spend the money you save on faster proven memory, more memory, more storage and develop some hobby that includes the outdoors like Kayaking, Archery or Photography. There are always new things to buy, but sometimes they are not so new after all."

Intel needs to really go back to the drawing board. I'm talking all the way back; mechanical computers instead of electronic. Or even hydraulic computers. Or a hydro-mechanical computer. That would be cool.

So, like, are computers just not gonna get any better now? What if technology has limits, wouldn't that be depressing?
But they got them quantum computers now, so thats something, at least...

Now in fairness I've seen Linus build crappy $100 builds and also a damn wall of bitcoin miners that costs a heap.... No matter what he presents its always in the typical Scandinavian relaxed and jovial attitude. Scandinavians are the easiest going people I've met... Alarm clock? Most of them would need a giant mallet attached to a string.
So it clearly takes a lot to piss Linus off ... I'd be sure you'd probably need to nail his nut sack to a workbench with a hilti gun to get him to squeal foul like a stuffed pig.
So when Linus out and out calls Intel out on their bullshit, essentially calling them a pack of shysters....well its time to start looking at an AM4 motherboard. Simple as that.
I mean a damn spreadsheet with data they are now ducking and diving from? Who the hell is running things in Intel? Trumps social grace and diplomacy team?

Most likely, what you have here is just the top-performing after-production CPUs being re-branded to take advantage of their ability to handle increased overclocking. That's how Bitmain did their hashing boards as well. They simply pre-sorted the chips/boards based on their maximum overclock speeds, and charged more for the devices that were populated with the chips/boards that did better at overclocking.

So, Intel has hit the brick wall? They can’t make their processors any faster. We knew this day would come.

  • Sven Olaf Kamphuis
Sven Olaf Kamphuis 22 days ago

That is absolutely right. Intel is stuck with a limited product range for which only a handful of existing pc boarx builder customers remain. Aint noone in the world gonna consider using their 1000 pimned chips in any new designs, and they dont have much else on the market. If pcs die, so does intel. They dont even make logic chips or ram as a backup plan anymore.

If I'm going to spend 2K on a proc, it's going to be for an Epyc from AMD for the same price. But you get 32-core, 64 threads instead of 18/36, 64MB of level 3 cache instead of 24, 14nm as well, 3mb of level 1 cache instead of 1mb. On top of that, it supports 128 PCI-e lanes with 32x4 or 16x8 configs instead of 44 with only 16xm 8x and 4x, 8-channel memory instead of 4-channel doubling memory bandwidth, 2 TB max memory instead of 128 GB, MCP on die instead of on MB... The place where it falls short is raw speed, and who cares with that many more cores and threads? Also it has 2 MB less of level 2 cache.

    Wow - a two generation jump from 7980XE to 9980XE - and that within a year !
    Intel is so fantastic !
In the past we got more cores, higher clocks, a new manufacturing process with a new CPU generation - and now we get a two generation jump from 7th to 9th generation !!
    Absolutely awesome...
The new CPU must have double clock speeds with half of the enery consumtion to justify this HUGE step.
But it seems, that is not the case.
So, another CPU from Intel which will be bestseller !
I'm really looking forward to the 10th generation !
    Keep on rockin Intel !

Well for an unreasonable price and a with hefty overclock it should be better (with ht disabled) than threadripper (with smt disabled) for dedicated stream encoding... well better than the 16core threadripper anyway, seems the WX series TR's can actually be worse performing than X series due to the halved memory access and h.264 not being able to utilize that much more threads + add the scheduler issues on windows that make inefficient use of so many cores in the first place, linux should be better tho

I read the title of the video and thought "finally someone realizes intel is getting their asses kicked by amd in most (non gaming) workloads and is even getting close to taking gaming back too"
I am a fan of "bang per buck" and I have never been unhappy with the period correct amd hardware but I always knew old intel was better for gaming on a budget but as of now that 100-200USD skew of zen 2.0 cpu's must be making everyone who likes intel more sweat just like I hoped was coming because although I am not a red team fanboy I am a fan of the red team's ideas and plans (and obviously pricing) and this latest intel stunt makes me realize they weren't prepared for amd to have hidden such a bold move for so long and it shows things can only go up if intel is so obviously out of ideas. as for green vs red (nvidia vs radeon) I see a similar thing brewing as rtx-on was cool but still a minimally useful feature since it launched with zero support and I see radeon doing something very similar to what amd did with ryzen 1.0
