How exactly did he put England in a winning position? He was batting for his avergae - not the team. Rain around later and he needed to go for it, not score at 2 an over.

This is no surprise - Root seemed totally and utterly thrilled at drawing the Ashes so this is England's mentality.

    • Francis Edwards
      Francis Edwards 8 days ago

Gus Duckering England won’t lose but it could be a draw - then England lose the series. Tell me the last time England bowled a side out away from home and took 20 wickets. Sri Lanka maybe? And lol Sri Lanka.

    • Gus Duckering
      Gus Duckering 8 days ago

If it rains for the day we would have lost either way as we would have needed today to bowl them out either way

    • Gus Duckering
      Gus Duckering 8 days ago

All we need is 8 wickets in a day on a day 5 pitch

    • Gus Duckering
      Gus Duckering 8 days ago

How do u know we will lose tho

    • Francis Edwards
      Francis Edwards 8 days ago

@Gus Duckering If there's a 10% chance to win the game over a 100% chance to lose the series I know what I'd do. Batting average is more important to Joe though.

  • boswellwhanau

Gee, whats happened to Broads batting?? From world class all rounder to someone only a little better than Danny Morrison?!?!?

    • boswellwhanau
      boswellwhanau 7 days ago +1

@footystar19 4 Yeah, didn't realise just how much its gone down hill. Real pity as England could use his batting from back then today (and its a handy tool to have in the bag just in case you need someone special to dig you out of a hole).

    • boswellwhanau
      boswellwhanau 8 days ago +2

He is now BUT he was a blaaaardy good batter not that long ago. Now he can't even buy a run. A test high score of 168 with twelve 50's to go with it says he was once more than just a bowler mate.

If Archer isn't going to bowl 88-95mph then there's no point him playing. He's looked poor in these games, hopefully there is a reason why he's down on speed. Doesn't really help that Root is flogging him to death either.

Broad shite? Ask Warner who has just scored 330 plus NO but could not lay a bat on him all series. You are talking nonsense or don’t know anything about cricket.

    • mrb018538
      mrb018538 7 days ago +2

Pee Geezee what a stupid comment. Broad is the 7th highest wicket taker in history and just came off a good ashes series. Doesn’t matter that he and Anderson bowl low to mid 80s when they make up for it with generally consistent accuracy and skill. Archer doesn’t have that yet, he is picked for raw pace....if he’s not delivering that then he’s not adding much.

I've really liked the look of Pope since he first come onto the scene and I've watched him on TV for his club a few times as well .... He reminds me a lot of Ian Bell with some of his shots!

When he's in full flow, he really is the most talented, elegant batsman in the world.
Just wish he'd hit his top form more often, as the other three do. But of the big four (Root, Smith, Kohli, Williamson), he's definitely the most joyful to watch.

    • Gus Duckering
      Gus Duckering 7 days ago

He just won’t tho, smith came back from a ban and instantly dominated a series more than kohli every has

Bullshit, he's one of the most naturally gifted and elegant batsman we've ever produced. Presumably you've never even seen him bat, I suppose Graham Thorpe was on the same level as Monty panesar too by your judgement.

      @mippyaya
Gower has the 4th most runs scored by an english test batsman and you're comparing him to moeen Ali? A man who is 5500 runs, 13 tons and 25 half centuries behind him?

    • mippyaya
      mippyaya 8 days ago

@REVENONE think you'll find that it's you that quite literally has no idea what they're talking about. Try comparing Gooch's record at the same age - not even close. Gower was everything that Moeen has been (besides a bowler). Brilliant to watch, rarely a match winner and consistently inconsistent. Comparing Gower to Root is a bit like comparing you to somebody with half a brain cell... futile.

@Francis Edwards not irrelevant at all. He's a great batter but a terrible cricketer. Was always brought up being told respect for the game was the one thing cricket had over every other sport. Why should anyone respect Smith if he doesn't even respect the game he plays

Francis Edwards how can you say root isn’t class england play more good test teams than any other side and he has been our best player for 4 years, that’s like saying because Harry Kane is in bad form he isn’t class, it may have been a flat pitch but you still have to be a class player to score 226 when ur out of form vs one of the best test bowling attacks in the world
