I think, in the 2016 election you had 2 unpopular candidates, and in certain States, they came down on the side of the person whose politics were so vague they could fill in the gaps themselves. Even now, does anybody really know what the fat orange one believes?. Both the Dem's and Repub's have their base, it's the floating voters in the middle who matter. Imagine this, you at the polling station, you don't really want to vote for either, but in the end you give the one, whose politics you know less about, the benefit of the doubt.

Watching the video and this comment section, I finally agree that parts of America are incredibly out of touch. Not looking forward to being accused of defending rape and incest when I obviously haven't. but the truth needs to be said.

  • Vidya Sonavane
    Vidya Sonavane 27 days ago

Jake u forgot to mention about the electoral votes. So even if people chose to vote correctly, few select states can hold the cards in their hands and the national election can be easily manipulated.
How can a modern country can be still governed by 1700’s rules? It’s so baffling, and dumbfounded that the clear winner cannot be a President. And the worse part, the religion still dictates who can rule the country rather than what’s good for the country as a whole.

I love how these guys and others like them dance around the fact that Hillary was a deeply flawed candidate that missed her time when she lost to Obama. If you remember, the democrats system of super-delegates stole the primary from Bernie when they were neck and neck by announcing that the super-delegates were going to back Hillary no matter what. So the DNC and their anointment of Hillary are to blame for The Occupant in the WH.

  • Glenn Welsh

It's clear that a large percentage of voters didn't care who won the debates during the last presidential election. They chose their preferred candidate based on their stance on any number of issues that they felt mattered to themselves the most, be it pro-life/pro-choice, immigration, healthcare, taxes, race, gender, etc. It didn't matter to them that Hillary came off more prepared than Trump, because he ultimately won. So it's hard to say that beating Trump by coming off better prepared than him is going to matter this time around. I think they'll need to be willing to go after him and fight back when he pulls his bully tactics. What's going to ultimately matter is which one of them are going to come off as a fighter who will fight for their respective stances on issues to get things done and isn't going to be passive.

“For those of you who are not familiar with Congressman King’s oeuvre, he says a lot of just really insane and offensive things” (04:03-04:14).
Thank you, Jake Tapper. It’s not… I’m not too familiar with the history of American journalism, but through the 1960s, serious newsmen could present sensible observations about the information they covered. It’s their job! The purpose of expertise is to ensure that people who *don’t* have in-depth knowledge of a subject still have access to it in a way they understand. We’ve somehow reached the point where relaying information without identifying the truth, showing “all sides” rather than dismissing what’s obviously or evidently BS, is considered the “ethical” norm. And it’s GROSS.
Worst example: The POTUS is a *liar*. That’s a well-documented, observable fact. Why does the news insist on reporting everything he says without that critical framework? The newspaper still has authority the POTUS does not. Simply by reporting his words without fact-checking their veracity or self-contradictions, they grant his every utterance the gravitas it doesn’t deserve.

I wonder if someone approached them and used this argument and substituted the word raped with immigrated and offer: I'll be for Anti-abortion laws if you drop all Immigration laws and quotas and have open borders... After all immigration was occurring at the same rate (Marital rape wasn't a crime back then but I'll include them in the statistic for comparison and there were mass rapes of Natives and Slaves so combined equal the immigration rate) and there were no laws against immigration just like their were no abortions for rape back then... would they agree.

To be fair, he wasn't "defending rape & incest." He was defending his belief that it should be illegal to abort a child who is the product of those.
I don't agree with King and he should have been removed from office years ago for much worse beliefs, but let's at least argue honestly. I'm getting so tired of Late Night hosts fudging the truth for an easier laugh. They complain the voters are dumb and then dumb down the story (or sentences describing the story).
