  • 🇦🇿 Whilst exploring an old Soviet village in Azerbaijan I was stopped by a polite old gentleman who asked for my documents. Who was he? Why did he want them? Who did he work for? Did I do the right thing? Who knows but I think I just me the Azerbaijan version of the KGB.

If you were doing something illegal, you'd hardly be doing it while wearing a bright orange jacket and waving around a Go Pro. Papers please!

@Damir Agović If you think PJW is a "fascist" then you have officially consumed too much soy for one lifetime, man. Luckily the left is dying out and civic-nationalist parties are rising all throughout Europe and America and you're asinine opinions will be irrelevant soon.

Recently, I have started watching your videos and I must say you are doing great job. I am very surprised that you visited my country Azerbaijan as well. As you mentioned in the video, unfortunately oil money is used mostly in order to develop Baku and other cities didn’t receive much attention. However In Azerbaijan, we have more beautiful and interesting cities than Baku such as Shaki, Lankaran, Lerik, Gadabay etc. They have beautiful nature and of course very friendly people. In general Azerbaijanian people are very nice and friendly. It is in our culture to invite guest to our house and offer them food and drink.

I am not sure who was that guy stopped you and asked your documents. Might be a school teacher or someone from municipality. Definitely he was not police and normally our police respect and at the same time scare from foreigners. They wouldn’t do you anything :) Especially taking a photo or video is totally fine and there is no restriction on that.

As you can see from Baku, some part of Azerbaijani people are reach and I can say almost 50% are poor. The reason is corruption. Government itself is corrupted that is why it is not that easy to stop corruption.

Due to war with Armenia, Azerbaijanian people and police also a bit sceptical when someone takes video in their city but it is only because of the war.

Azerbaijan is very safe and nice country. It is not that expensive at all. Only flight tickets might be expensive but country itsels is cheap. By the way, you stayed at very expensive hotels on the way Ganja and in Ganja. But it is your own fault :) you could check and find better hotels via booking.com.

In case of anyone plans to visit Azerbaijan, just Google it :) you will find all necessary info and the cheapest way to fly to Baku is from Budapest Hungary. With Wizzair you can find very cheap direct flight from Budapest to Baku.

Thank you again for the nice video.

I wonder if you’ve been to Armenia yet! Esp karabakh.
If you do I doubt you’ll be allowed back into Azerbaijan.
I don’t know if it’s the same travelling to Israel and then trying to travel elsewhere in the Middle East.

If you could even find a hotel room for $40 in the US, I definitely wouldn’t want to stay in it. It’s hard to fig one for less than $100 a night.

Can any Azeris explain to me why they are more friendly to Jews and even Israel comparatively than any other Muslims I have encountered? The only other Muslims that used to be just as friendly were Turks prior to like 10 years ago, and things started changing for the worse between Turkey and Israel, coinciding with Erdogan's rise as well. After Turks, Persians in the diaspora get along fine with Jews, and they often live in the same areas in the USA. Then I would rank Moroccans and Tunisians as next most friendly with Jews - Moroccans seemingly because of nostalgia from the Jewish community that basically was kicked out/left because of Zionism, and Tunisians because they seem to have be more secularized in political outlook. Although Egypt and Saudi Arabia and UAE are more politically and strategically aligned with Israel, their citizens still aren't friendly to Jews...SA is becoming more so with MBS on the rise, Egypt as well with Sisi, but the anger from the previous wars is still only one generation away. Weirdly, the most antijewish Muslims I have encountered were Malays, Indonesians and Algerians. Of course I am generalizing, but this is only my experience I am relating.
