🇪🇹 Ethiopian Airlines flight to Nairobi crashes, deaths reported | AlJazeera English

  • Published on Mar 10, 2019
  • An Ethiopian Airlines jet with 157 people on board has crashed.
The Boeing 737 took off from the capital, Addis Ababa, bound for Nairobi, Kenya. It came down six minutes later near the town of Bishoftu, Ethiopia.
It was the latest version of the 737 - 800 MAX - identical to the Lion Air jet which crashed off the coast of Indonesia in October, killing all 189 people on board.
Pilots have since accused Boeing of failing to warn them of changes to the flight controls and a new, automated stall prevention system.
Al Jazeera spoke to Alex Macheras, an aviation analyst who joined us on Skype from Malaga.
Our correspondent Catherine Soi also joined us from Nairobi on the phone to discuss the latest updates.

The Ethiopian airlines is one excellent airliner. They have impeccable safety record especially given their age in existence. The airline has been in existence since 1945 with revenue flights. They have state of the art training facility where they train technicians, attendants and pilots from all around the world, specially from the gulf states and African countries. Their major fleet is that of Boeing. The fact that this brand new aircraft crashed twice in 6 Months points there is an issue with Boeing.

Haha! A bunch of globalist UN workers were killed. (This is a good thing). No doubt in my mind that it was caused by a bomb, missle, or just crappy Ethiopian maintenance. Someone likely mixed water in the jet fuel bulk tanks to cover up for stolen fuel. Death to the globalism!

Quality control suffers when you hire and promote the wrong people (affirmative action , foreign VISA work permit etc)...you want proof?? Boeing recalled most of its retirees to work on a temporary basis last year to figure out what's causing "delays" (very loose term) in their production line.

competition and over ambitious generals who want to make every machine autonomous and self reliant eliminating need for human skills just to outdo the others and go down in history as the most genious of all techie gurus compromising safety in the process and bringing sorrow to humanity ......thats how i can describe boeing right now...an anti-stall system that is unaware that the plane has just taken off and force it to do an unprecedented nose dive so close to the terrain is the most absurd and irresponsible invention anyone can come up with then equip that to a new passanger jetliner is the most stupid way to test a new crapy, risky and unreliable systems ..being a pilot nowadays is not as cool and skilled as in the golden age ....planes are being built to fly themselves and do all manner of crazy manouvers without warning the pilots...

    Kind of saddening.
See, 737 Max 8. Two incidents, five months apart. And had some important folks. JT610 had 30+ civil servants, ET302 had some of UN peoples.

I'm starting to wonder if Boeing planes are being targeted by terrorists. 5,000 more of these Jets are on back order, and would cripple this American aero company if they cancelled or have a serious issue. Just stating a concern.

Anti-stall functions were also culprits in crashes like Aeroflot Flight 593, Air France Flight 447, China Airlines Flight 140 - these automated functions are dangerous - now Boeing making same mistake? Boeing already have bad 737 crashes with faulty controls in United Airlines Flight 585, USAir Flight 427, Silk Air Flight 185, etc!
