History point , serious injuries and fatalities have gone up since people started using boxing gloves and helmets pads , reason is in bare knuckle fighting , fighters would instinctively aim for gut m when the opponent BOWS OUT which is where the term comes form when he has had enough and cant take any more pummelling . Bare knuckles would not aim for head face or jaw because of the risk of breaking their hands on the skull there fore protecting the opponents brain boxing or at very least head strikes should be banned

lighting is the most important feature for realism; at a fundamental level you are born and have seen light bouncing around you all your life. For the first time, this will happen real-time, and it is big. All lighting in games until now, has been made by faking it, so it really came/comes down to the skill of the technical, lighting and shading artists. From now on, this will be obsolete. Just like vertex paint lighting is today.

I don't agree at all we used to only have Steam, now we have GOG.com from Poland and Origin which is EA but it works well now. With the new Wolfenstein games, Doom, the New Tomb Raider just coming out this year. I think 2018 has been one of the best years for PC gaming in a long time.

I love Win10. Best OS since 7, which was best since XP, which was best since 98SE which was best since 95 which was best since MS-DOS which was best since AmigaOS. It boots lightning fast, never crashes and does exactly what it needs to do, run my games and applications. :)

Reflections ARE lighting. It is ALL that lighting is about! Reflecting light off surfaces. Aka raytracing!
It’s surprising to see that Linus clearly doesn’t know what lighting actually is and means.

  • Evi1M4chine

Actually, *there is no Steam for Linux.* The Steam client itself uses Wine, which literally means it is not a Linux application, as that is Wine’s whole point. And it completely and utterly ignores everything that makes a Linux applications Linux applications. Like where which files go. Like using the system libraries and not packing your own. Like having games available in the package manager instead of the abominable abortion of an offspring called an "app store". Like using the system's native widgets so things look like the user decides to.

    • Evi1M4chine
      Evi1M4chine 9 months ago +1

Yes, that makes Flatpack, Snap etc also not Linux. But that was already obvious, as Ubuntu, just like Android, isn’t Linux, but merely loosely based on it.

PhysX it worked very well but . break all computers to the maximum . so it's still a good idea to optimize your applications . it's a powerful function for 3D architecture programs ... even cinema . and in pc games . but it is very necessary to have on and of in the settings . because otherwise you will not see the difference .
on the 4400 Mhz ddr4 and a 32 core core on 4400 Mhz with some boards in the SLI MODE at least 4 gpu nVidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti ... there I think it will be a crystal result but it's a lot of power just for gaming . and you probably need a 1500w power source !!! which if you use it daily for 10 hours to maximum
it will definitely cost you the electricity 90 $ us per month for only one pc . + what cost me through the house another $ 60 in electricity = 150 $ electricity bil

it's possible !!! but I need sponsors ! would be a monster pc oc and should do miracles . testing starts with 3dmark 2006 ... and more both new and old ...
all on 64-bit system and with 32 GB dd4 ideal 64. for the future ....

Gaming on a Windows PC with the most up to date version is always the way to go, although I will forever REJECT and REFUSE to accept or play with VR and especially AI (artificial intelligence)-AI is dangerous territory. The new nVidia cards have that technology, which is why no one should buy them or invest in them.

I think pre orders are sold out is due to fear being played over price hike and scarcity post cryptomining boom. People think that either they'll secure it now, or they'll have to wait weeks or months for it at affordable pricing. Which in turn, became a self fulfilling propechy.

I know the "ray tracing" is getting a lot of flak, but I think it can actually be really useful for purposes that involve ray tracing, like some rendering engines such as Vray and IRay which can use CUDA as a processing unit for real-time rendering. Those are the kind benchmarks I want to see. It doesn't matter for video games just yet, another generation or two of these video cards and then games shall start being more playable and all will be dandy =) ... for NVIDIA

      You said Linux.
Ubuntu is not Linux. Or do you think Android is Linux too, just because the Kernel is Linux?
Ubuntu is a systemd/Snappy/Gnome3 OS. Which is almost as far from Linux as Android.
If you like it, alright for you crazy mofo. But don’t call it Linux. (Let alone GNU.)

Switching to Linux will not happen unless Valve comes up with a much better version of the Steam OS. Anyone who is not familiar with the Linux architecture is likely to rage quit the first time they have to go "sudo -apt -get" in a terminal box or the drivers for their hardware need to be compiled. The last time Linux could have been considered a user friendly alternative to Windows is never, and the closest it ever got was when Windows was still using DOS underneath the hood (Windows ME in 2000 being the last iteration of it). This is cool news if you are already part of the Linux ecosystem, or if you are so poor that you can't afford to have a Windows OS installed in your computer, but I don't see this as any competition at all with Windows, to be honest (and yes, I know you were being sarcastic with the title).

Those things you mentioned are obviously important in the overall immersion but lighting is a huge deal when it comes to visual realism and imo is easily on par with the importance of texture resolution, etc. Just look at some demos of traditional rendering vs RTX. Or, just look back at older games and notice how drastically the lighting has changed and what a difference it makes.

To your point about seeing the same art assets repeating in the gaming world the other benefit that nVidia kept repeating about direct ray tracing support is that is frees up resources and development time to develop other things and put more in the environments. This is extremely important for multi-platform games (which most on PC are) that have to deal with certification memory constraints on consoles. So the idea is that by the developers not having to spend time using tricks to get the right "lighting" (and by extension the most accurate colors) resources are free on the system for better art assets and more intense visual effects. I'm flabbergasted that the RTX card is totally sold out even though I am drinking the Kool-Aid that this is the future. Ray tracing in video games is definitely the future of video games but by the time adoption takes over where games are developed from the ground up with ray tracing in mind you're still talking about 3-6 years out. 3 years for AAA titles to go totally ray tracing rather than hybrids and dropping support for the tricks like SSAO. 6 years for all indie developers to pick it up. I'm all for ray tracing, but this is not the ray tracing focused series card you want. I say ray tracing focused because it's not like previous cards can't technically do it either. They just do it on such a limited and basic basis that the support isn't worth the reward for a real time video game.
