I can't get over how in the age of sat nav, someone was seriously trying to charge people £1 a minute to ring someone for directions!

This has to be the worst idea ever on the Den, even that spinning washing line was better than this.

LOL, this guy is completely out of date.
They installed a Big old clock in London so you don't have to ask a policeman - you can just check the big clock. If you asked a policeperson they would probably just check the big clock. Our tax dollars go to keeping that clock functioning, and not to paying police officers to tell people what time it is.

There’s something intriguing in the idea of trying to profit from the efforts others have made into building the “london taxi driver” brand for city knowledge. But the Dragons got this one right, this CEO was never going to find a way to make it work.

I do in my arse mate. I'd sooner ask a Barista you out of touch gobshite.
Also 2006.....I know its pre-smart phone but we had Google FFS, Garmin Sat Navs were a thing and tbh I'd sooner read an old fashioned map or hop in a taxi for cheaper 😅
Also ya think he would have rigged the demo as any sane person would to guarantee an instant answer.

This episode was filmed in '06 and the iPhone came out in '07. The service would have effectively been out of date by '09, and he should have seen that coming was smartphones were slowly becoming more powerful and cheaper already. LG and Blackberry were selling devices that lead to the modern smartphone market. Know your market.

The AA had a similar service way back in the 70s, it might have started even earlier. I remember my old man using it in the mid 80s when we were hopelessly lost. It amazed me how they knew where we were and how to direct us to our destination.
It really amazed me how it worked, my kid imagination thought it had something to do with the AA badge on our grill. Somehow they located us using it
