  • Bon Appetit's Senior Food Editor and pastry chef Claire Saffitz attempts to make a gourmet Twinkie without the hard-to-pronounce chemical ingredients. The first test is Genoise cake, an Italian sponge cake. For the creamy filling, Claire uses 7 minute frosting. The second test is yellow cake and buttercream filling. Next comes chiffon cake, a light cake that uses vegetable oil. Finally, with some help from Test Kitchen Manager Brad Leone, Claire decides to "Frankenstein" the recipe.

People crying over Twinkies being thrown away. They aren't vegetables or healthy in any way. A starving person would get violently sick if they ate all that crap. No loss to anyone.

I had a Twinkie after not having one in about 30 years. Did they change the cream since the 80's? Because now it tastes terrible to me. But I remember them being delicious.

I like Claire the best. I can totally relate to her style and considerable knowledge of creating recipes! If only I had an unlimited budget, a camera crew, and undoubtedly an assistant or two behind the scenes, I'd be that good too!

Kind of kills the "woke-progressive" dogma BA force feeds us when there are plenty of starving vets and they throw 40 twinkies away; and dont give me the "expired" bs when they're pumped with preservatives and the starving would rather live than not live. Bad take BA.

Why would you want to give unhealthy twinkies to anyone? It's not like she threw away vegetables.

The employees eat all the food in the later episodes. I watched the more recent ones before coming back here, and I was surprised. I don't know why they threw them away here, but they only did it in this episode, apparently.

Wow. I am pretty sure that every other junk food they've done, they kept the display and ate through it eventually. They fully rejected those Twinkies like they just were not food. Lol.

In NZ, ww have lamingtons. It looks like a square sno ball but has no marshmallow, the cake is a vanilla sponge and the cream is fresh. Those who aren't familiar need to Google a Raspberry lamington. There's also chocolate lamingtons.
