Oh no. Lol. Was just robbed several weeks ago outside of Harrahs Hotel several weeks ago in New Orleans very close to Bourbon Street. A homeless woman approached me on a bike and proceeded to ask me for a cigarette and and a couple dollars. I was a teensy weenys intoxicated and obliged. The woman saw where I took the money out of my gold coin purse and when she asked may I give you a hug....the very gullible honest woman in me said why yes! It only took about 5 seconds before I realized my new found friend was a thief. Man I never saw a woman get on her bike and ride so damn fast. Lesson learned.
My coin purse had the $290.00 in it that I just won from the casino. Man, if this skit is not art imitating life.

Even though your ears hear Nawlins what we were really saying is nuAwwwlins, it just sounds so much like Nawlins that that's how some people say it now, but then again those are people who ain't from round heh!

Um, Louisiana's really do pronounce New Orleans as "Nah-lins".

    • Heather Keller
      Heather Keller 5 days ago

D Scully THEY ARE MAKING FUN OF THE TOURISTS WHO THINK THATS HOW WE TALK AND ACT. People who aren’t from here think that’s how we are. My God why is that so hard to get. I have had friends from college who aren’t from here say they were surprised that we didn’t actually have this accent and speak like this. Because this is what the movies and television portray us as. You say you lived there for 30 years, is this how you speak? Because that’s not how my family, friends, coworkers, and I speak.

    • D Scully
      D Scully 6 days ago

      +Heather Keller
So, for you, this skit made the whole thing up???
      Funny.

    • Heather Keller
      Heather Keller 7 days ago

D Scully Lynn is my sisters middle name. I already told you I understand there’s a difference in the pronunciation of Len and Lynn. Still, doesn’t change the fact that it’s pronounced New Or-Lins. We’ve already established the fact that the ending of the word is pronounced the same way as Lin as in how you pronounce Lin Manuel Miranda.
You’re really stuck on this whole Len Lynn thing and telling me I have a speech impediment. That’s funny to me since you don’t know me, but I think it makes you feel good to say it so that’s ok.
My point is that we most definitely pronounce the OR. that’s what you’re missing, forget the Len thing. I probably should have never used Len as my original example since you have really attached yourself to that and can’t get around the fact that I haven’t used it since and I keep using Lin instead, which you obviously agree with since you think it’s Nawlins.
Either way, this article backs me up as do several others. And what’s hilarious is that they actually use the word Lens as an example of how to pronounce it. Now stop it.

    • D Scully
      D Scully 7 days ago

      +Heather Keller
We've already discussed that you can't say the word Lynn.
Why aren't you over this already? Do you understand that you have an accent, which is really a speech impediment? Your ear for language isn't the same as someone who is affected. You are like the woman who thought her name should be pronounced Don. She would literally try to get people fired if they "mispronounced her name". I'm talking about people who worked at other companies, not even people who worked under her. She had no idea that she was pronouncing it wrong or that her speech was affected.
I recommend looking up the word "linen". Look at the pronunciation guide for the word.
Lens and lynns are not the same.

    • Heather Keller
      Heather Keller 8 days ago

D Scully I too went to LSU. And me and my friends who were also from Nola would also try to teach nonresidents how to pronounce it. And we would tell them New Or-lins. Most of them thought it was New Or-leens. No one I know says Nawlins. This has just been my experience living here. Maybe everyone I know doesn’t have that thick Nawlins accent you seem to think we all have. I find it so hard to believe you and your friends were telling people to pronounce it Nawlins, that sounds so silly to say out loud, and not authentic at all.

All New Orleanians can identify with this. The stereotypes from movies are annoying. Outside of the French quarter and Mardi Gras, its a regular ass modern American major city like any other, for the most part....sure there is a unique culture, but every major city has something unique about it.

Lorne Michaels puts the sketches in the order of which he thinks are the best first. The last few sketches can be pretty awful. I can't for the life of me understand why this one was dead last. Dead last is the one he had the least faith in. It should have been the first after the monologue. Side note: New Orleans native here. Most tourists think that's how we pronounce it. Like somehow we talk like we're from antebellum Georgia.
