since i haven't talked to you, i dream about your baby blues
and wonder why you stopped getting high
even though we were just friends, i think of us as bookends
i'm gonna love you till i die
you think you're going to heaven and that i am going to hell
and that i'm gonna keep on dancing till i hear that ringing bell

    heads gonna roll, baby
everybody's gotta pay that toll and maybe
after all is said and done
    we'll all be skulls
    heads gonna roll

took a little trip up north
in a borrowed convertible red Porsche
with a narcoleptic poet from Duluth
we disagreed about everything from Elliott smith to grenadine
he fell asleep and i put up the roof
and he took me to a graveyard
i thought he'd kill me there
he kissed me on the corner while the nuns of harlem stared
    heads gonna roll, baby
everybody's gotta pay that toll and maybe
after all is said and done
    we'll all be skulls
    heads gonna roll

smoking Marlboro cigarettes almost makes forget
about riding on a private jet with you
i hope the sycophants in Marrakesh
make up feel your very best
    anonymity must make you blue
and you think i'm going to heaven and that you are going to hell
with your back to the medina
as if you were in jail
    heads gonna roll, baby
everybody's gotta pay that toll and maybe
after all is said and done
    we'll all be skulls
    heads gonna roll
    heads gonna roll, ladies
we’re gonna drink until they close and maybe
a little bit of hooking up
    is good for the soul?
    heads gonna roll

OH I just gotta know -
Jenny is his "back to the Modena", the Ferrari sports car?
How would this make it look like being in jail?

    • Gordon Anderson
      Gordon Anderson 17 days ago

@6od Naw, no way - totally different pronunciation.
Also the Ferrari 360 Modena fits the song far better, and is actually REAL!
...and not just something people are forced to "believe" in.

She's kind of a bore...and how does this upstart get Ringo on the drums?

@Fernando Montero IF you search her resume' - she also acts, directs, produces, and generally stays busy, very busy.
      Keeps a person thin.

Upstart? I mean, if you find her boring that’s fine. Music is subjective. But she’s been one of the biggest names in indie music for nearly two decades.

She has been a 'child star' in Hollywood, can get A -list music and film stars to show up, just to be in the background of her videos.
...and she is lovely and creative Soul, frends in high places or not - keep up the great work!
signed - The narcoleptic poet of Dultuh.

I was wondering if this song is about an affair with Dylan or just about him. The line about killing her in a graveyard and then the kiss. There is a dylan line didnt know if you would kiss me or kill me from a song she covers standing in a doorway...

I had just posted my favorite records of 2019 so far and this tune got blocked. I totally get the copyright thing but I was promoting the record. The other 9 out if 10 songs were allowed to play. So I deleted and I guess will have to leave out Jenny;'s record.

I'm addicted to this song. Even without knowing that Ringo's on this tune, the song's funeral dirge-esque melody is reminiscent of The Beatles "Free As A Bird" - as well as the long intro before the slamming of the cymbals and his great heavy-hitting of his kit throughout. It's just an all-around-beautiful tune.

@mark schomaker actually, according to an article I was reading in Mix magazine, you're right. It IS Benmont's C3 setup.
Of course, in the business the generic term in use (at least among those who have to load out every night) is B3.
The point, I think, is that Tench plays the shit out of that machine.

    • mark schomaker
      mark schomaker 7 months ago

How do you know it was a B3? It could have been a C3, A100, RT3, D152, A105, A101...Point is, a bunch of Hammonds make the exact same noise, because they generate tones exactly the same way... Does sound great. I'll give you that...

@Jonathan McAuley That's the thing with these stories, so many other people who are upright and ethical get hurt too. People can't just think they are hurting themselves or their victims, they are hurting everyone they work with too.

    • Jonathan McAuley
Jonathan McAuley 11 months ago +7

Why downgrade this amazing song by even mentioning the Ryan Adams thing? True or not, Jenny Lewis stands on her own, regardless of his involvement in this record.

He knew she was underage. He referred to himself as R Kelly in the texts. You do know what illegal is right? Or is your head to far up your ass?

    • Guo Tyson
Guo Tyson 11 months ago +5

@Kyle F Did you mean to ask: How could he had known that she was on-on-only fifteen? Lol. He knew what he was doing. He even admitted that he would get R Kelly'd if the story came out. Although it has nothing to do with Jenny the album was done before he got exposed.
