Nish Kumar on Naga Munchetty BBC racism row - BBC Newsnight

  • Published on Sep 27, 2019
  • The BBC has said it is not impartial on racism, after a backlash over its decision to uphold a complaint against BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty. Subscribe to our channel here:
BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was found by the BBC's Editorial Complaints Unit to have breached the corporation's guidelines by criticising US President Donald Trump's motives after he said four female politicians should "go back" to "places from which they came".
The corporation said its editorial guidelines "do not allow for journalists to... give their opinions about the individual making the remarks or their motives for doing so - in this case President Trump".
Munchetty was not found in breach for "calling out racist comments, which is perfectly acceptable where things are clearly framed in racist language", the BBC's head of editorial standards has said.
Newsnight is the BBC's flagship news and current affairs TV programme - with analysis, debate, exclusives, and robust interviews.

Neil 6 days ago +1 telling "WHITE people to go and KILL your RACIST Brexit voting parents" racist Nish?
If Trump said, "BLACK people go and KILL your RACIST Democrat voting parents" would that be racist? We all know he'd be lambasted for it. But when you say it, it isn't racist or hate speech? Why is that?
So what's right and wrong Nish?
And let's recall how Carl Benjamin was hounded, investigated by the police and even partially deplatformed for simply joking, "he WOULDN'T even rape someone". Yet here you are showing racism, bigotry and even inciting violence (with "WHITE people go and KILL your RACIST BREXIT voting parents"), yet that's OK?
Why the double standards Nish? Will you be publicly branded as a racist now? Will you be investigated by the police now? Will you be deplatformed now?
No, because that sort of rediculous politically correct, virtue signalling nonsense, cynically installed by the left, will not befall you!

Sorry but the charter that the BBC is built upon says she can't give her personal opinion, not can anyone else, the pair of them should HAVE been disciplined. They're not the ITV they're not allowed to have an opinion, they're there to be play a unbiased part. Can't hack it go to ITV or sky, or any other private news/media organisation.
Trump suggested those who seek to tear down the USA and totally ruin all it stands for, some whom happen to either be from areas of the world that are in far, far worse shape than the US equality wise, as in born outside of the US, and the others parents where born outside of the US in such areas of the world, they fled to the us to escape persecution and to seek to enjoy the the fruits freedom and democracy provide....just so those known as the "squad" can tear it down.
Granted Trump went a little far but it wasn't racist, he was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of the squad who claim to fight for equality and freedom and the rule of law ect ect, yet they remain silent on the horrors happening in the lands they/their parents escaped from...for the freedom and democratic right to say the things they're saying. I wouldn't care some of things the squad have said and supported is highly, highly questionable on the morality scale.
Sadly we'll never hear the story from a neutral perspective as the BBC are incapable of hiding their bias and complete disregard for the charter that is in essence a media constitution between we who pay for the service and those who work in it. If they're not going to abide by those basic rules along with the deal to keep the over 70's free license, why on earth should we pay? Infact why are we still paying? Why aren't we saying you no what? No we've had enough you're taking the absolute piss and until you get the BBC in order in accordance to the charter then we are not paying a sodding penny, please by all means spend a fortune you don't have because we're not paying trying to get your money via the correct debt collection practices.... you'll give in before we do.
Sick of these woke folk who just want to tear down all of institutions, granted they're not perfect, but total destruction of institutions that have been centuries in the making isn't the answer, we can tweak and change the bits that need addressing without tearing it all down.
Grr enrages me so much... especially when people across the world in places like Iran and Hong Kong are fighting and giving their lives to get the very sort or society these woke folk take for granted.

The BBC is racist , since the referendum they ignore their charter , which is a legal document , and they constantly go out of their way to belittle straight white man in favour of everyone in this world who isn't . How much more EU money have they taken , they cannot serve two masters and we know which one they do currently ?

Donald Trump did not tell Ayaan Hirsi Ali to go back to Somalia - clearly if Donald Trump was a racist, when that variable is held the same with Ilhan Omar - we can evidently see his words were not based on race - and they were not racist. They were patriotic, or perhaps nationalist, but clearly not racist. Ilhan Omar, a dual national of Somalia and America, hypocritically talks of the virtues of Islam, while choosing to be in the non-Islamic country, America, which has significantly better:
    - opportunities for women
    - far, far greater tolerance
    - social mobility
    - lower homicide rate
    - far greater social mobility
    - far greater ability to prosper from hard work
    - better life expectancy
    - far better heathcare
    etc. etc. etc.
In just about every way, America's liberal society is light years ahead of Somalia, but lhan chooses not to live there, while saying only good things about it and it's culture, while trashing _totally_ America, not just on America's bad points, but any point at all because she despises everything America stands for, while hypocritically accepting all of the privileges it affords her from it's liberal society. She does not accept it has any good points to it at all, and wants to tear it all down. She's hypocritically cashing in on the politics of tribalism, victimhood, grievance, retribution and self hatred among the far-left elites of America. Ayaan Hirsi Ali however is actually a liberal and stands up for liberal issues, proud of being Somalian, but proud to stand up for liberal values and women's rights, and so doesn't trash the country she's benefiting from (and actually contributing to).... while marrying her brother to get him a visa too... unlike Omar.
So no, that statement was not racist. Sure, potentially said in bad taste as it might encourage actual tribal racists (like Omar only opposite) in American society to think it's OK to say that to any immigrant - you know.. similar to what would happen in Somali where any white person would be beheaded in weeks based on actual racism and actual xenophobia - but in this case the sheer hypocrisy of Omar is what's being lambasted. If she doesn't want to give immigrants a bad name, she shouldn't give immigrants the most toxic, tribal, retribution seeking, hypocritical reputation she does by claiming to speak for them. She doesn't in fact speak for them, and Trump is supported by people of any race when he calls this out, standing up not for "his race" but America's liberal values. It's a sad, sad day for the BBC when Donald Trump actually stands up for the west's liberal values better than it.
The BBC loves joining in with this type of politics with it's own self hatred, unable to actually become an organisation for social mobility, but window dressing itself with privileged women and privileged minorities in a vain attempt to satisfy the guilt it has for being the organisation of absolute privilege (actual privilege based on social class) that it really is. It's hypocrisy too is only just starting to be called out.

As usual the BBC and the BAME people moaning are COMPLETELY WRONG.They have misinterpreted the President's tweet so badly its laughable.

He wasnt making a 'racist' comment at all.He was telling a Communist/Marxist Senator who wants to destroy the 'go back to the country she came from (Born in Mogadishu!!!) and see how they solve their problems and then come back and show the USA how to do it'

Of course the BBC and Lenny Henry and others jumped on the bandwagon without clarifying the FACTS.
Anybody reading this should check out Senator Ilhan Omar and the Open Borders anti capitalist SQUAD members....listen to their disgusting anti American and Anti Capitalist rhetoric...and then read Donald Trump's tweet in CONTEXT.

Munchetty was so off the mark interpreting his tweet...but then thats the BBC for you in 2019...a joke of a National Broadcaster. They should do their research should all the BAME people who jumped on the bandwagon.......

I think BBC journalists should indeed remain professional and impartial whatever the provocation. Are we to have more opinions and judgements on other matters from now on? Yet you have the likes of Bonnie Greer on question time, making veiled threats to the U.K. over it's perceived treatment of Ireland and no-one bats an eyelid, presumably in both cases for fear of being branded racist.

LMAO ASIANS married a white person, abondan asian friends for white friends, dressed like white, sound like white, convert to english culture copying their life style and asians still thought you be accepted as white person living in their country. Shame on you. They still looked down on asians cause your still treated as a outsider a guest in there country as a second class citizen. They want to show they are still above you and dominating you.

Nice to hear a moderate Muslim like nish Kumar for once. Munchetty should be put under surveillance by the intelligence services, she is susceptible to becoming a jihadi bride.

Nish Kumar is welcome to stay. However should refrain from spouting extreme Islamic hate and backing his fellow terrorist Naga munchetty. It upsets the natives.

@suburben yobbo No, that doesn't work wherever it's tried. The judiciary, stand outside the system and hold the executive to account. They must use, and be seen to use, either the written constitution or precedent. Both work better than anything else so long as the judiciary is independant. But you know, or think you know, all this and disagree. You probably want a "strong man" to lead us to Valhalla.
