5 mg OR HIGHER DOSE OF VITAMIN B1 EACH DAY WILL REPEL MOSQUITOES. TAKE A B - COMPLEX MULTIVITAMIN EACH DAY WITH AT LEAST 5mg B1(THIAMINE) . YOU WILL PRODUCE A SCENT THAT IS REPULSIVE TO MOSQUITOES!!! NO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT SHIRT COLOR OR CITRONELLA CANDLES!!!

    • funzjag

@Dave Jan VITAMIN B1 (THIAMIN) is the key. If you take a multivitamin with B1 , you will produce a scent that is repulsive to mosquitoes and undetectable to humans. I'm "O" type blood and mosquitoes used to bite me frequently. Since I've started the B1 , nothing!

Saving millions of people is a terrible idea. Overpopulation is the root of every other global problem.
Saving people is like giving a death sentence to All Life, though the exact date of that sentence isn't clear.

There's no way that we (or any other organism) has been drinking alcohol long enough for mosquitoes to incorporate this behavior into their evolution.
Now, if entire populations of the little vampires were completely dependent upon humans as their sole food source, for 10's of thousands of years, okay... then maybe.

Maybe the mosquitoes are attracted to a rise of blood sugar because of the alcohol

  • SmokeystarOriginal

People are cooler after drinking because it brings the heat up to the surface of the skin, allowing for the air to cool you faster (scishow, survival myths episode), so would it not be more attractive to the mosquitoes since the heat is brought to the surface?

Maybe give them a non calorie sweetener instead of sugar? They get into egg production and run out of calories then die. Just have to find the right sweet thing they will buy into I guess.

As for the beer being a mosquito attractant, for years I have used yeast to attract gnats to a common area so I can spray them all at once in a safe area of my choosing to spray bug spray in the home. Maybe it's the yeast that attracts the mosquitoes to beer drinkers. It sure does attract gnats.

I can stand next to a mosquito magnet person and I won't be bitten even once. And onions don't make me cry, at all, ever. My dad is the same in both instances. I remember watching mosquitoes fill w/my blood as a child but am past 50yrs old and noticed 20yrs ago that I no longer get bitten. Don't think it's linked to the onion thing. Just another thing that makes me unusual. Any hypothesis anyone?

Mosquitoes being attracted to dark colored surfaces is also a surviving skill. Every time I try to pursue and kill a mosquito in my room that has white colored walls, they fly towards the door witch is dark colored brown, so it is almost impossible to see them. The mosquitoes that do so escape and survive.

why did I not hear any theory about the possible connection between bug repellent and what makes them come to you. like how venom something used to kill or incapacitate has been reversed to do the opposite. why not look into bug repellent and see how it keeps them from finding us possibly showing us how they find to begin with

the only thing I've found that works is to grow a very excess amount of citronella plants placing them kinda like a fence around my porch. My porch is 10x10×8 and including the hanging baskets I have 30 citronella plants 5 on the ground 5 in the air on all 3 open sides. I also have them planted in my garden but not in as much excess there is 1 garden bed to the left and right of my porch mostly comprised of lavender, marigolds, lemon balm, basil and citronella plants. All of which are mosquito repelling. My backyard is the only place I can stay outside and not get eaten alive but even still if I spend too much time tword the edge of the yard I start getting bitten again but only if I'm out on the edge for an hour or more. When the plants I can't bring in die when the season is over I juice them to make mosquito candles for the following mosquito season.
