Brett Favre's final shot at glory deserves a deep rewind | Saints Vikings 2009 NFC Championship

  • Published on Jul 30, 2018
  • In 2009, after unretiring from the NFL once again, Brett Favre joined the Minnesota Vikings. He led the them on a deep playoff run and with only seconds left on the clock against the New Orleans Saints, Favre had the victory at his fingertips. To understand how we got there, lets rewind.

As a Packer fan this was a very difficult time. Good job on this video. I hate it when people blame Favre for this game. It’s a team loss not a player loss. Favre deserves great respect.

Gregg Williams should have been permanently banned from the NFL and the Saints should have been forced to vacate their Superbowl.

It should also be noted, the NFL changed the Overtime Rules the following off season. The new rule would allow the opposing team (Vikings) a possession in Overtime if a field goal was the outcome of the initial drive (Saints- FG winning kick). if a Touchdown was scored, game over. Once again, the Vikings get screwed.

The 2nd greatest game I ever saw. The Saints next game is the first.

All Favre had to do was run out of bounds. In the end, so many turnovers. So many bad calls. Awful game in Vikings history. This and the 1998 NFC Championship are the most painful.

Its almost like the Saints knew they had no chance against Favre. and it came out that Sean Payton was stealing Vicodin from the trainers.

NFL is 100% fixed fake as the WWE. This game proved it. Brett is and always will be the GOAT. Regardless of what the douches at ESPN say or do. Anyone and everyone that has ever worked for ESPN is a sell out douche bag and should be hung for what they did to real players like Favre. POS NFL.

Tracy Porter is one of the most underrated corners in NFL history, was extremely clutch all year and made big time plays against both Brett Farve and Peyton Manning on the biggest stages possible

I was a huge Vikings fan in 2009, the amount they got screwed in this game killed my interest in the NFL until this last year. Was happy to see the saints finally get some karma in the 2018 NFC championship game.

I remember people being way too hard on Favre throughout this time. First about him not immediately telling them if he was going to retire or not. Then about this play. Despite the fact that he was clearly targeted by the Saints and nearly had his leg clean ripped off.

The Vikings had the ball 1st and 10 on the Saints 33 yard line. Chester Taylor ran the ball for 0 yards on 1st down and Adrian Peterson ran the ball for 0 yards on 2nd Down (why wasn't AP in there for both downs????). Then they called timeout. Came off the timeout dazed and confused with 12 guys on the field. That took the ball back to the 38 yard line which was out of field goal range. Then on 3rd n15 Farve tried to do too much.

Farve gets all the blame but man that was a total team collapse guys. Why didn't they just smash the ball up the middle again and just say F it and let Longwell kick the 50 yard GW Field Goal? anyways that's all I have to say.

I think this comes full circle. Wasn't his first pass from Favre was when he was with the Saints and it was an interception? He then returned the ball back to his 1st team.

The NFL decided .. long before the game .. that New Orleans ... 5 years after Katrina .. would win the Super Bowl. Favre and the Vikings did not stand a chance. The game was rigged.

I remember they showed the saints defensive game plan on TV. It said "take Brett favre out of the game". I figured mentally but as the game went on I realized they meant physically. Greg Williams knew the true MVP of that Viking team was Favre, not AP, not the defense, not rice. So many blown calls, so many fumbles, so many mental coaching mistakes and yet it's all hobbled up Favre's fault. Childress could have kept Favre out but he knew Favre was carrying the team that game.
