I love how the scientist is very calm and not alarmist, just saying this is more rare, and they cut back to the news anchor who stresses the negative/fear. They only had one video of a big wave, and it didn’t even seem like a wave, more of a big splash. I think they’re over-emphasizing it a bit.

@live not on evil tectonic plates are always generally rubbing together to a certain degree at times. It’s very vague to try and imagine specifically how much pressure and where the pressure is because that’s the entire art of the study of seismology as well as tracking it. There is a map showing all the tectonic plates on the planet if you’re interested just put it into a search engine. However the stretch of land Hass to be large enough from the epicenter and the pressure buildup that obviously for it to of been at the bottom of the ocean all the way to cause an explosion at the surface that again this is something that happens once every decade.

      Andy 4 months ago +1

@Honey Bee it was nice... Mostly the views. But eventually you get tired of the humidity which caused my hair to frizz like crazy, things rust right away, wooden furniture near open windows will warp and have water damage, the ocean breeze carries in the ocean smell and fine sand/dust into the house, everything is coated with a layer of moisture. So having house keeping is a must. Windows need to be cleaned every week. And metals tarnish quickly.

It has always amazed me at the speed that they say a tsunami wave can travel. A boat wake, water splash ripple, or beach wave, never travels faster than a human can run. Out at sea waves travel less than 100 MPH. Pour a bucket of water out on top a tall building, the water will never travel over 150 MPH. Yet a tsunami can travel 500 MPH ?

@Thirtythree Eyeslook at the big brain on brad.. lol sounds good enough to me!

    • Thirtythree Eyes
Thirtythree Eyes 4 months ago +10

I think that might be because a tsunami isn't one moving body of water, it's a shockwave traveling through a body of water. Since water doesn't really compress much that shockwave can move extremely fast and then when it gets to shallower areas and there's no where else for it to go the energy get transfered into the water then slows down to the speed we're used to seeing and causes the massive wave.

The fish kill off is going to be fairly large. It will be a few days before they wash up on shore. Generally the under volcanos are so insignificant to us they go unnoticed by the general public. We only see the effects when fish wash ashore a week or so later. This time it was so large that everyone knew it happened. Hope everyone is as safe as can be.

If the effect of this tsunami is from Alaska down to California that means that Canada's west cost also gets effected not just the U.S like this reporting is implying.

    • Shytowns Finest
      Shytowns Finest 4 months ago

@Nick Masuen Totally understandable, and I did in fact watch the entire vid. Just so many that take offense to the style of reporting is all, the report did mention all areas affected. I get your point of view tho.

    • Nick Masuen
      Nick Masuen 4 months ago

@Linus If your commit is directed toward me then you apparently did not realize that my commit comes from watching the entire video not just from reading the title. because like I pointed out, the reporter mentions that the Tsunami will hit the West Coast from Alaska all the way down to California. But when the reporter gets a little more detailed they only mention the U.S states and never out of politeness to our Northern friend Canada do they mention them even though they sit right in between Alaska and Washington.

    • Nick Masuen
Nick Masuen 4 months ago +1

@Shytowns Finest My commit does not just come from reading the title, it comes from actually watching the video in which, yes, the reporter says that the Tsunami could have an effect along the west coast from Alaska all the way down to California. Yet, when they get a bit more detailed they only mention U.S states and never, even out of politeness, mention British Columbia, Canada's West Coast providence.
To me that is not a full report, reason being is that in the past I have seen non U.S reporters report on stuff going on here in the U.S in a much more fuller manner than what I saw with the reporter in this video.

    • Nick Masuen
      Nick Masuen 4 months ago

@caroline So, I take it from your commit, that for you any person who is a Canadian along the west coast whether they live in Canada's west coast or in the U.S west coast they are irrelevant.
Meaning that if it had happen that a bunch of people had gotten hurt and/or died because of the Tsunami, be it in Canada or in the U.S, you could care less if it was a Canadian, but if it was a U.S citizen then and only then you would actually care.

I had a dream a few months ago. I was suspended in the air looking down at the earth. I could see the entire continents of North America, Central America, and South America. I saw the origin of a mega tsunami break loose in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and it split into 3 mega tsunamis, all heading east...each several hundred miles long, MASSIVE. One was heading for the West Coast of North America, the middle tsunami heading for Central America, and the 3rd heading towards South America
