The Absurd True Scale of Pablo Escobar's Wealth Visualized

- At the height of his power, Pablo Escobar was estimated to be worth around $30 billion in today's money. That number is very difficult to visualize however, and the goal of this video is to explore just how completely absurd and unreal making $22 billion a year selling cocaine really is.
This video was done in a collaboration with the Court of Source. Check out his great video here! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngYhp...

So in the end the real winner was the man who supplied pablo his rubber bands.
Underrated
@Jo Shua somebody said the same thing 4 years ago lol
Lmao
LOL
Yeah, he wasnt even doing anything illegal just selling rubber bands
He can pay off my college debt and still have 100 dollars left
😂
LAUGHING MY FUCKIN ASS OFF LOL
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@alexh_17 r/whoosh
@mr.kitloin r/ihavethemostreddit
Pablo could probably rent an apartment in new york city for at least 2 months
Bro like 3 days
This is the most untrue thing I ever read. He would only last like a week
He could rent a hundred apartments in New York and still pull it off
HA! An California apartment for a day.
@Ben A. r/im14andthisiswoooosh
My dad would burn me to keep his 2 million dollars warm😭
Pablo Escobar never did that.
So nice,. :'''''''')
😂😂😂😂
Lol😂
HA HA HA
He’s richer than ill ever be in GTA 5 and that’s a game where u can literally rob banks all u want
U can just hack
@kingharjot ok
Mario Ruiz and he never died
Still he can never afford to play EA games...
Bruh
Heck no even bill gates can’t afford EA games
RIP
lol
@Jay Saenz he doesnt get income.
He gets money by the minute
This channel is proof that you don’t need a high quality mic to make good videos and get over a million subscribers.
Leafyizhere
Nice
Well he does have nice animations
Or editing skills... whn he put the mincrafy fire when he said he burned 2M dollars for his daughter 😂
The dude sounds like he has on speaker phone while preparing dinner from across the room
To put a Billion dollars into perspective -
If you had an amazing job that paid one dollar a second , 24 hours a day , in 11.5 days you would be a millionaire.
How long with the same job to be a Billionaire ?
34 YEARS.
i don't like you... you're good at math
Obviously Pablo has a ton of cash but starting a Fortune 500 company is safer.
31 years and 6 months actually
Plus it was in the 80s so the money was worth more at least I assume
@Pedro Henrique Vitória Bill gates gets 20 Dollar per second lol
This video is deeply flawed. Wealth is much more than just money. He practically owned Colombia then.
@UCKfAon4q_8rz3G09tHiWvOA bruh did we rlly need a whole ass essay lmao
Oh wow sorry
Also they needed to count all his properties and things he owned
Actually, he unofficially did.
So basically he was Mr.Beast of the 80s
Pretty much yeah
+ A lot more murder
@Brandon Panozzo dont talk about colombia if you dont even know how to spell its name
@wot mr beast net worth is 10 million $
Pablo Escobar net worth= $30 billion
Mr. Beast net worth= $100 thousand
Pablo Escobar is 300000 times more rich than Mr. Beast
I'm from Colombia, and the most shocking part of this story is that we still love the culture that medellins cartel brang to Colombia, you just have to listen to the music we like, the TV shows, the night live, everything at the end is still inspired by such kind of absurd culture. It is a shame.
False, I been to medellin twice. Locals do not like talking about Pablo or the Medellin cartel.
Like what?
The fuck's brang?
julandd As a Mexican, I completely understand you, shame.
I like that despite how evil he was he still cared about his kids.
jsjones418 he once tricked a 16 year old kid into blowing up the plane he was on just because there was one person on that plane he wanted dead if that’s not evil I don’t know what is
We actually wasn't evil they were strict about only killing people that was trying to kill him
This pablo dude watched narcos too much jeez.
*Content Deleted* wooooosh
Moruki Tamonokuzi no shit
@*Content Deleted* r/wooosh
Moruki Tamonokuzi u rlly said that unironically
Worker: how many kilos do we put on the sub-marine?
Pablo Escobar: *Yes*
It was a boat the amount of coke made it a submarine
The sub-marine is the cocaine.....
Si
No
fun fact; pablo’s son called forbes and laughed at them he said:” he is way richer!”
Admiral Brown give evidence to a link
That never happened. Forbes said he had 3 billion and his son said he had less than that.
Mario Martin Lozar you dumb
No. He said they exaggerated his wealth.
Did you have a stroke when you wrote ”and laughed”?
More than 10% was eaten by rats. You forgot the rats that went to the police :)
No, he didn't. Those 'rats' simply disappeared. 😉🔪💀
Delta Ruin r/woooosh
No they didn't knew that the rats are the police.
The show narcos was amazing
.
Are you still falling?
Even though he was a criminal I give him massive props for being able to create an empire. It's hard to fathom when you really think about it. He was a genius.
@Michel Linschoten we all die only a few live
@Kalium don’t forget the in-house zoo
The truth about this world is simple, the rich are gonna get richer and the poor will continue to suffer, like someone said above the real criminals are the "leaders" of all these countries. As long as there's poverty Crime will always be the top way for those not given good opportunities to succeed. Can't blame guys like Escobar or Lucky Luciano for playing the game of life...
@Tierman Beats no need to say this, its good --disturb the comforted. Side note yeah the US gov makes bank on seizures (reply to comments above)
People need to chill because I was only stating my opinion. If you disagree then you disagree, idc. Too many people in these comments are pissed the fuck off. Wouldn't have written this if I knew this comment was going to catch this much attention.
With all that money I still wouldn't pay WinRAR
Lmao 😂😂 the only software with a 40 day trial that doesn’t expire
lol 😂
😂
lol
@daan hamer I can relate 😂😂
Also, his wealth is entirely liquidable. Not wealth by stock or equity like the others on the list. So by true cash wealth, he is richer than estimated
So to clarify (for those of you that are confused), he had lots of money
I was still a kid when I heard he got shotted, but remember clearly thinking with relief "finally". A kid aware of how much trouble this guy was, a person that only brought missery to those he loved and an stigma to his country.
The question is...
did anyone ever find the money buried in the fields?
420M a week
Coincidence? I think not
Hehe
@voiq LMFAO
Haha get it? It's a funny weed number. Ahaha
If you want to learn more about Pablo I would highly recommend The Accountant's Story, written by his brother Roberto, who worked as his head accountant. It's a fascinating read.
He could have bought over 20,000 Toyota Corolla per Week.
@TheCitedAviator
Damn it gotta be at least 3
Imagine all the combine harvesters he could have bought
Johann Schumacher RealLifelore wet dream
Remember that the wealthiest millionaires only realize about 2-6% of their wealth each year, billionaires probably a lot less than that. Meaning the majority of their wealth is not income but assets like stocks, property, and businesses. So If we were just to consider wealth in terms of actual cash.. Escobar would probably be the richest man in the world in recent history.
*this dude could buy a lot of airpods*
IKR and he could buy me a college textbook and he would still have like $10 left for lunch or something
@sebastian omg!!! You skipped right over the joke lol
@Sebastian Stan He was just referring to how insanely expensive those things are
@Sebastian Stan Can't believe you actually took the time to calculate and write all of that down in all seriousness
Pablo’s wealth is exaggerated and this is stated in the biography made by his son, his wealth was still big but it was off by a few tens of billions of dollars.
Police:How rich are you
Pablo: yes
actually this is an unhealthy comparison. since the richest have their fortune determined by the stock values of their companies. however escobar had the cash .
But Escobar was losing 10% of his money to it rotting away, so having money in banks comes at an advantage.
Yeah the whole Colombia had his cash stashes dug in the ground. Maybe some of them are still there.
Yeah free cash and minimal debt would make an ideal company to invest in. Too bad Medellin Cartel, Inc. wasn't publicly traded, lol.
tudorjason nah because they havent sold their stock yet, so escobar had way more than 30 billion dollars if you count in value.
Wealth is wealth but I do understand the point you're making.
let's take a moment to appreciate that he was a loveable dad
Even tho he had all this money the influence and power he had meant he could do almost anything he wanted
The most respected man ever
Imagine asking him for a coin...
Apparently he was really nice to ppl who didn’t get in his way so prob just gave you a thousand bucks right there and then
@Mandy's TOP 10 in narcos not in real life
@Pedro Monteiro he would tho
Major american companies: heres 10 dollars for the day
THE REAL gangster is the dude selling those rubber bands!! Because he could actually spend his legit money.
Rubberbandit
Black Acid Gaming but that was back than maybe today he would get 1500$ a week still good money
Fructuoso Torres-Leite he did good things to get love from the people, but building a hospital on one street, and blowing up the police station in the other doesn't really compensate. He wasn't the saint as they make him.
his money wasn't legit washed down drug money
Black Acid Gaming Bro, the video said it was 1k a week, 52 weeks in a year, so $52,000
Stories like this are what the idiotic "war on drugs" produces. It's amazing to me that governments and law enforcement can't seem to figure this out.
If he was still working today he would be making billions a week he would be the most richest person in the world
Organizing this scale of business involves many people, some of them want to be where you are.More money, more problems.
Simply said,he probably felt relief when those bullets rained down on him.
For those who don't know, Medellin has become, after these Cartel Wars, one of the wealthiest cities in southamerica, and its income has nothing to do with drugs.
With that many billions you would think he could buy enough security so he would never die.
nodinitiative nah. The thing was that they couldn’t get him. Lol
@Bazza62 lol...the CIA let Fidel Castro lived to justify their existence and high spending
Watch narcos
@JudgeBullShit Still, he could literally have his own private army, to the point that killing him would be nearly impossible
Based on a true story of a movie that was produced called "American Made" starring Tom Cruise, (HIGHLY suggest seeing it if you haven't already) an American pilot did those runs for Pablos cartel like the video stated and the pilot legit made so much money that he did not know what to do with it, he would literally try to bury it in his back yard but every time he dug up the ground, a huge duffel bag filled with money was already stored there. THATS how much money this dude had!
The man, the myth, the legend...
*Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria*
Escobar wasn't a retailer, he was a wholesaler. He made about $12,000 per key, not 60-70.
Have you ever heard of Genghis Khan or John D. Rockefeller. Yes Pablo definitely had a lot of money but definitely not the richest to ever live.
When this man decided to go to jail he built one so his family could go with him.🤔
His family weren't in the prison.
I thought it would be far more than 15 tonnes a day.
Equivalent of about 2/3rd capacity of a full 20 foot container.
Incredible story none the less.
I could pay for all of my student loans and 3 more years of college with the amount of money he makes in 3 minutes.
He wanted to pay the government 90 BILLION dollars to not mess with his coke business. He's net worth wasn't 30 billion .
He was still so OP after all nerfes he got, thanks god devs in 1993 finally with new patch removes him from game.
Whoa it's been exactly 25 years since his death I come across to know about the wealth of this guy
Watchin this video with $3 in my bank account is really hitting me in my feels rn
Imagine having so much money that it becomes a problem just to keep it
420 million a week... he was in the wrong business
Epic gamer I think the emeralds were from el mexicano
Chris nah they sold cocaine weed opioids even emeralds
Mr. SpookyPants iii
Nothing died with him. The business was taken over by someone else.
@ASWIN SUDHAKAR222 watched narcos? :)
No the cali cartel took care of the business
CptDieHard the labs were burned after he died
Was there something unique about Pablo, or did he fulfill a niche available to whom ever could become the most popular?
Coolest dad ever.
Tbh nobody knows how much he really did have saved up... we all know damn well he has over 30B
It wasn’t “his Medellín cartel” lol he was just s very prolific lieutenant. The boss was a man called Fabio Ochoa and he never done a single day in jail and kept all his wealth.
This man must have been living damn good but I wonder how his conscious was knowing he killed those people and ruined the community. Just like how nas was talking about selling crack. You know he had to dawn on it every now and then.
Girl:dad I'm cold...
Pablo:hold on
Reaches into pocket
Sets fire to stack cash
Pablo:there ya go
Girl aw thx
if he used apple ,he would have been broke by now.
I live in Medellin and I find this accurate. He had enough money to build soccer fields and entire neighborhoods for poor people, sponsor soccer teams, build his own zoo, fund his political career(before being persecuted obviously), etc. So yeah, after being killed the main cartel was gone indeed, but I and lot of people here actually believe some Las FARC ex members are still into the business lately, drug production has been increasing and that's why Trump now is mad... but I can't blame him because somehow our government didn't fight this issue efficiently at the end with that "Proceso de paz". Newer cartels could grow in the next years, which I hope it NEVER happens again, it was an episode full of violence back then.
Pdt: If you are from USA(or anywhere) and even think about consuming cocaine here remember: thousands of innocent people died, homes full of children and their dreams were completely destroyed because of that, and we don't feel proud of that guy AT ALL, is not something to make fun of, so please don't support more violence and tears, we have had enough. God bless you :)
rob kazinsky but it can never be stopped.Drugs are absolutely everywhere.
I know some coke users, they use it maybe once every 2 or more months. the 3 people i am actually friends with are all depressed, stressed, life not moving anywhere and use it because 'it makes them forget about how shit their lives are for one moment'
anything you can easily make on your own without harmful chemicals. Booze, weed and mushrooms
Julian Murillo
Im Colombian and i totally agree with u
Humans have took drugs long before laws of prohibition. We consume drugs everyday without even noticing. Caffeine , alcohol and nicotine are a few.
I thought the street price for a key was 22k. Ive heard that in several movies. 50-70k seems high.
Such a legend, he will never be forgotten. Mainly because gringos love that snow so much, he made so much money.
Pablo Escobar; I got 30 billion
Bank cartels: we printed 100 billion last night.
Mandy's TOP 10 exactly
@can that's the thing , and most of the wealth of pablo was in cash which would be devalued if they print more money.
juanio printing more money makes money not valuable
He almost could buy a house in modern days, wow
He actually offered to pay off Colombia's debt
@__ Harambe It's not a fact. It's a rumour. And the rumour was that the entire cartel offered it, not just him.
Lie!!
Sharvil Jadon and Colombian denied that
Leonardo Bandeira a very smart guy
Greatest business man of all time.
Imagine how much the government would make if they legalized.
They would definitely make more than Pablo did each year.
You have to remember he wasnt a billionaire based off how much money he had plus any assets. Like other billionaires. He had that much money straight cash. think about it🤔...............and there's no way to give a true accurate estimate I'm sure he was worth way more
Your videos have come a long way.
Still good to rewatch the classic!
This is a very informative video!
Since my parents are from Colombia, they lived this in the flesh and the stories they tell are astonishing. One cool fact you could have mentioned was that he offered to pay Colombia's whole debt, just so they wouldnt track him down anymore.
Well, technically he can't qualify because he can't spend it freely. He can't leave Colombia so he was practically a prisoner in a big prison with lots of money.
Guy:hey sir i need like 5$ to complete my groceries purchase
Pablo: here take / A house /A jet/100M
Imagine a normal farmer tending to his fields and finding Pablo Escobar’s money.
RIP legend
My grandfather told me a story of him and his friends investing a lot of money into developing an island in the Bahamas. Curious, I asked why he still didn't own such property. Turns out the island he and his business partners invested in and developed was the one Pablo Escobar took over. Its so weird to think my grandfather is somehow connected to such a large scale criminal
Actually, a Kilo of cocaine back in 2001 in Florida was selling for $22.5K, not $60-70K. I know this for a fact.
i usually like these videos, but it seems like there was no consideration of inflation. shame. that 30 billion would be like 60 billion today
He didn't have 30 billion anyway.
Pablo can buy a house in Los Angeles and be left with $50
I dont think anyone besides pablo would ever know how much money he had.
So what I'm hearing is... crime does pay
Not anymore tho
Risk and reward
Yup thats about the size of it...just dont be greedy.i have no idea what to do with a billion.i can live life grand with a few million
What I'm hearing is: the US pays crime.
No.
You're unlikely to be competent enough nor lucky enough to pull of what Escobar managed to do.
Most drug dealers make around minimum wage and when you factor in the risk involved its simply not worth it.
That's only counted for cocaine's dealing. Did you know pablo had many other businesses to? If all that together his worth might be near 150 bil
Estimating pablos actual wealth is hard since he worked in organized crime he could have way way more that east tracked
what were your sources. Im doing a paper on pablo escobar and would love the sources you used to make this video
People say he could have actually been a trillionair just because of the fact that not all of his warehouses were found and so 30 billion is a good estimate but not even close to the actual wealth of Escobar
“This is a man who once burned 2 million dollars in cold cash to keep his daughter warm when she was cold.”
Guzman controlled a region of Mexico, Escobar controlled a Nation
@can True. But he lived on the run and even had to flee the country for a time.
Admiral Brown yet ESCOBAR DID WHATEVER THE FUCK HE WANTED. He didn't want extradition and he got what he wanted.
@can it's rich of you to say that when you cllearly don't know much about the history of Colombia. You say the constitution didn't matter but it's clear it mattered very much. Escobar's words and actions tell us that. He only turned himself in once the constitution had been changed.
Imagine if Escobar had used his income on addiction treatment programs. Or if we still had cocaine on the streets instead of Fentanyl.
My favorite part of things like this is that inflation is never taken into account.
As the famous saying goes...
Cocaines a hell of a drug
I’m your 1000th like
RAVEOLOGIST ,es Plata o plomo.
yashgoil
Uhh no?
Plata al plomo
4thedevil
I’m surprised how the entire business wasn’t taken over by someone else after escobar died
They should have mentioned that the money was worth a lot more back in the 80s because of the consumer price index. 30bn USD then is equal to almost 90bn USD today...
Bror Bjerke Escobars son says that the estimated $30 billion was bullshit and he actually had double or triple that
He did, that’s what the phrase “adjuster for inflation” means🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Damn but Bill Gates has a net worth of ~96b and the CEO of Amazon has a net worth of ~138b
Bror Bjerke he literally said adjusted for inflation in the video....
0:13 “ and adjusted for inflation in 2012 dollars he had an estimated net worth of $30 billion.
He could of stopped and still been super rich!!
Overall it did more good than bad to people's lives. Larger economies, lower inflation, safer cocaine.
if Pablo was alive and running his business till this day I think he would have way more than 30 billions. this guy would for sure expand
Play Store Pablo Escobar was making 1 billion dollar's per week..
hadis, price of cocaine, has dropped significantly last 30 years.
He wouldn't expand more because the Earth's population would not have needed more cocaine, but he would for sure have a much higher net worth working with that temptation...
O think even if he did not expand he would have been richer due to the rise in population and inflated prices
i was thinking the same, he would had gone through the roof, still i believe he had more than 30 at that time anyway ...
Inspiration 🔥
rip mr escobar 💪😔
So you’re saying that an honest, hardworking lifestyle will get you billions.
