In any other movie with any other character played by any other actor, this scene would've fallen apart due to how clunky it is in it's blatant info dump exposition. But because it's in Beck's character to be Extra As Fuck in his showmanship and Jake just nailed it so well, this somehow feels like a natural thing that's happening with this character and his crew. It's amazing.

When they revealed William was the “ Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave” Guy, I lost it. It makes me wish all the other people in that bar were from different moments in the mcu that would have been epic.

We all know what was Myterio’s plan, not to get control of edith, he wanted to make the “Avengers level threat” to join the Avengers. You may be thinking, won’t he be exposed by the Avengers sooner or later? The possibility is high but that is not why he wants to be in the Avengers. Simple he would use the time machine from Endgame to get the reality stone and boom, “Reality can be whatever I want.”

The ring Beck showed Peter was either a real one from a marriage to an ex of his, or just one he had on him for the false story.

In the hands of a lesser actor this would have been a terrible scene. Ham-fisted exposition after ham-fisted exposition, etc. But Gyllenhaal really pulls off that manic charisma to bring Mysterio to life. Ultimately a pretty darn well executed scene.

Interestingly, this is the third MCU sequel where the main villain is played by someone who could've convincingly played the hero earlier in their career.
In the audio commentary for "The Winter Soldier", the Russos explicitly say "people have remarked, in an earlier age, Robert Redford could've played Captain America". If they'd made "Guardians of the Galaxy" back in the early 80's, Kurt Russell is just the type of guy that could've played Peter Quill. And when it seemed Tobey Maguire might not come back for "Spider-Man 2", there was talk of Jake Gyllenhaal (who was even dating Kirsten Dunst at the time) replacing him.

Honestly I’m not the biggest fan of the movie but this is my fav scene in the movie. I knew it was coming but having mysterio rant about how stupid people are to believe this shit is so funny I had lost it in the theaters.

Ok for real though, as neat as this movie was, you would have to be a literal 5 year-old to not see this coming, I don't know who the advertisers were fooling.

So we're supposed to believe that Quentin was behind a curtain in Civil War. They did the same in Homecoming with Vulture. Really original.

Jake deserved to get fired if he thinks that helping people with traumatic experiences get better with therapy holograms. Think of how many lives could be saved from the toll that commits suicide because of stress. A patient brain could be scanned and create a exact hologram of the event

Calling Tony a manchild is pretty rich coming from him, considering how he acts whenever he gets pissed off and demanding.

  • Zac Dragon
    Zac Dragon 21 day ago

Tony may be a boozy man child but he had more wisdom

Peter may be a hormonal teen but he has more compassion

Mysterio is neither of those things, he is a psychotic overreacting
circus show who dreams of becoming something that he is not.... a hero, an avenger.

What I love about Marvel especially their shows is that they show no matter how powerful Gods are, and People turning to Green Monsters. Humans are still a Threat and this shows with just Effects and A Fake story.

    Most recent mcu villain motivations:
Killmonger: my father was killed and I was left an orphan
Thanos: the universe is overpopulated and in danger.
Ghost: I’m dying of a slow painful illness.
Yon Rogg: I serve the kree empire
Mysterio: Tony Stark called my tech Barf

After I rewatched the movie I have to say that what makes Mysterio a good villain isn’t cuz we feel bad for him, I think sometimes not every villain has to be sympathetic, just tell me his motive and I’m fine, Beck in the movie explained how he hate that even as one of the smartest person in the room, nobody will notice him, his ego makes him like this and he definitely got some mental issues, sometimes it’s ok for villain to just be a complete asshole and that’s for a lot of Spider-man villains
