Universal Pictures will release Trancas International Films, Blumhouse Productions and Miramax’s Halloween on Friday, October 19, 2018.
Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Master of horror John Carpenter executive produces and serves as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema’s current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity). Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs.
Halloween is also produced by Malek Akkad, whose Trancas International Films has produced the Halloween series since its inception, and Bill Block (Elysium, District 9). In addition to Carpenter and Curtis, Green and McBride will executive produce under their Rough House Pictures banner. Ryan Freimann also serves in that role.

Halloween will be distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures. www.HalloweenMovie.com

I could look at it two ways, one-- its another scary movie with Jaime Lee Curtis that may or may not be good. Two--Going to the big screen and having a chance to remember in October of 1978, that terrified feeling of trying to watch this John Carpenter Horror movie with my GF trying to occupy the same seat I was sitting in. I should Hate this franchise because what Jaws did to swimming, Halloween did to "Going Parking". I speculate they threw a boat load of money at Jaime Lee to do this one. I hope it ties well to the 1st one but in the end, after 40 years of watching JLC on the big screen, I think she deserves my 20 Bucks.

I can't wait for the movie to come out

  • BonzoDog67 Lizardking

While I will certainly see the film, according to a number of reviews there seems to be some minor problems with it that could easily have been fixed in the script stage.
The writers retconned all the prior sequels out of existence, yet apparently kept making references to them. This is a problem if it screws with the tone of the film. If fans accept the decision to retcon the other sequels out, there was no need to waste any film time referring to them. It's counterproductive.
The film appears to have enough strengths to overcome this, but it sounds like it could have been even better. The old eyebrow rose when I read they had to reshoot...the ending...

    • BonzoDog67 Lizardking
      BonzoDog67 Lizardking 14 hours ago

OK, it's come back to me. I had watched the sequels with increasing disappointment up to 6. I was just confusing the bits between H20 and Resurrection. Didn't bother with the RZ material; seemed to be covering old ground pointlessly.
Adored the original. So simple and effective and memorable.
Making the ultimate sequel to Halloween is like trying to make the ultimate sequel to Jaws; they're joined at the hip by the music and the monster. Still, am happy they have finally gotten back to something close to the original mask and a fresh take on the soundtrack.

    • Secular Unity
      Secular Unity Day ago

BonzoDog67 Lizardking No problem, buddy. Laurie decapitates Michael by the end of H20, but the sequel to the film, Halloween Resurrection, introduced a plot twist that would retcon Michael’s demise, establishing that Michael switched clothes with a paramedic, and that the person she really decapitated was an innocent man. Laurie is eventually killed by Michael in Halloween Resurrection. This was the last sequel we got before the series was rebooted with RZ’s remake and sequel to the remake. So we pretty much haven’t gotten an original sequel in 16 years, the last being Resurrection (2002), and we haven’t gotten a Halloween film in 9 years, the last being Halloween II (2009).
Just in case (not saying you haven’t seen any of the films), the movies go in this list:
      Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween III (1982), Halloween 4 (1988), Halloween 5 (1989), Halloween 6 (1995), Halloween H20 (1998), Halloween Resurrection (2002), Halloween (2007), Halloween II (2009), and finally, Halloween (2018).
Do note that Halloween H20 effectively ignores parts 4, 5 and 6, and instead serves as a sequel to Halloween II (1981). Halloween (2007) is a remake of Halloween (1978), while Halloween II (2009) serves as its own sequel to that remake. Halloween III (1982) has no connection to the story, so ignore that. In order to understand the new Halloween film coming out this year, you only need to watch Halloween (1978), as the new film will be a sequel to that, regarding all of the other sequels as non-existent.

Interesting... In any case I do look forward to this new film...I suspect I will find the strengths outweigh any weaknesses that might be there. My memory is fuzzy about the last two. I just remember Laurie chopping off the head at the end and running under a table before being dropped to her death...I will have to see if any of these old gems are on Netflix. Just to refresh the ol' noodle.

BonzoDog67 Lizardking Well, you’re kinda 20 years late actually. H20 serves as a sequel to H2, not H6, therefore it completely disregards H4-H6 as if they never happened. There's a reason why it's called H20, which stands for Halloween Twenty Years Later. It takes place 20 years after Halloween 2, which took place in 1978. Here’s a rundown:
The initial screenplay for H20 was based on a story by Kevin Williamson, and the story was situated as a sequel to the previous six movies, thereby keeping the timeline's continuity. HOWEVER, the screen play was developed by Robert Zapia and Matt Greenberg to function as an alternate timeline, in which the previous three installments NEVER happened and the Jamie Lloyd character, Laurie's daughter, NEVER existed. When screenwriter Kevin Williamson first outlined Halloween H20, he created the storyline in which Laurie Strode has faked her own death and taken on a new identity as a specific way of retconning the character's death in Halloween 4. In Williamson's original treatment, there are scenes in which a Hillcrest student does a report on Michael Myers' killing spree, mentioning the death of Jamie, complete with flashbacks to 4-6 mentioned in the text. "Keri"/Laurie responds to hearing the student's report on the death of her daughter by going into a restroom and throwing up. If H20 truly was a sequel to the thorn trilogy, then this would have been the script for the movie, but it wasn't. This story was thrown out and was not chosen to be the story of H20 because the filmmakers didn't want to go through the struggles of having to tie everything up with the previous three sequels. They wanted to start fresh and erase the Thorn plot.
In a controversial decision, director Steve Miner retconned the 4-6 timeline with Halloween H20. This installment retained Laurie's faked death from Williamson's treatment, revealing that she only did so in order to avoid detection by her relentless brother, who has been unheard of for 20 years after the events of H2. Under a new identity, Laurie has fled to Summer Glen, California, along with her only son, John Tate. However, to focus more on the Laurie Strode character, the events of parts 4, 5, and 6 are written out of the continuity, thus erasing the Jamie Lloyd character from the canon. This means that, according to the H20 timeline, H4, H5, and H6 never happened. Instead, Michael has been missing and unheard of since the events of H2 (this, of course, then negates everything that took place between the 4th and 6th film), and then 20 years later (hence the film title), he goes to Marion's house to look through her documents and files to track Laurie's whereabouts. It's even mentioned in the film that the last time Michael was seen was back in 1978, and that Dr. Loomis spent the rest of his life trying to find Myers until he eventually died in his home, in which he lived with Marion. The Thorn plot, Steven Lloyd, the Man in black, Rachel, Michael being nursed back to health by a hermit and going into a coma for another year, Jamie developing a connection with Michael, etc., it all never happened according to H20. All of it. Despite this, though, the film does reference H4 with the bloodied scissors in the opening titles.

    • BonzoDog67 Lizardking
      BonzoDog67 Lizardking Day ago

It's been a while, but I don't remember H20 retconning the other sequels out of existence. I could be wrong.
My point was just if they're going to do that, they should stick with it. It was a terrific idea, but it opens up so many opportunities that seem wasted if the filler of the film is referencing things they've decided don't exist. For example, Strode could have been traumatized, but not so much she didn't have other friends with families of their own. Myers shows up and is after all their kids including Laurie. This would broaden the menace to others close to the protagonist, while allowing The Shape to not be just going past "whoever." ...And Laurie still has her moment to shine...

This film is retconning all the sequels out of existence. H2, H4, H5, H6, H20, Resurrection, etc, they all never happened in this new timeline. It is a sequel to the ‘78 original, taking place 40 years later. In other words, this is your new H2. It is literally flat-out told to you within the first twenty seconds of the trailer. _"We're here to investigate a patient that killed three innocent teenagers on Halloween, 1978. He was shot by his own psychiatrist and taken into custody that night, and has spent the last forty years in captivity."_
I genuinely don't understand how you could still possibly be confused/misinformed on the film's continuity. It's all there in the trailers, every interview, press junket, countless articles, and even in the synopsis of the film itself. Heck, even the filmmakers and writers have already hinted at the film's continuity, months before the first trailer was even released. All the information is right there in front of you. We've gotten 3 whole trailers already. There's literally no excuse for still being confused or misinformed on the continuity, especially when you have Internet access at your fingertips. You shouldn't really be confused at this stage.
Please don't take this is as an offense or a jab at you. I'm just amazed at how some people, to this day, are still confused on the film's continuity.

Here we go again. Curtis cut his head off in the last movie. Now we’re supposed to believe she’s at it again. We’re supposed to disbelieve all the other movies happened, and now she gets another go at him again in her 60’s. “Granny Halloween” they should call it. Zombie took it beyond. The monster was believable. He was huge, angry, mean, fast moving at times - a true unstoppable, evil force to be reckoned with. His killing sounds and vicious, bone - crunching attacks were palpable. It was Halloween on steroids. Even the blonde kid was creepy. Now we’re back to the little guy again who’s no bigger than the average man, and hardly bigger than the average woman, who’s going to beat everyone up and kill all those whose path he crosses. Bullshit! It’s pure exploitation. Carpenter knew Zombie made a more terrifying film, but instead of learning from it he followed in his old stubborn ways and calculated that with Curtis’s big name in there again and his reputation the retro storyline would be welcomed again. And you know what? He’s probably right. It’s like going back to the 1940’s version of King Kong or the Wolfman. They may be classics, but that’s where they should stay. I’m not going to pay money to see it, or buy the DVD. Only by hitting them in pocketbook will they know. Hope everyone enjoys seeing the little guy get killed again.
