Get ready for an EPIC KOREAN SEAFOOD FEAST at NORYANGJIN MARKET, Seoul’s famous fish market. Noryangjin is split into two areas- the new building and the old market. We explore the old market which is lined with seafood vendors selling all kinds of seafood. We purchase some fresh seafood: a baby octopus, a fresh fish and some sea pineapples.
We ask the fish vendor to prepare our fish- sashimi style as we want to eat it as hoe (raw fish). The vendor expertly slices up the fish and we then take the fish and other seafood to a restaurant which is located within the grounds of the market. Here they prepare the rest of the seafood and cook up the fish carcass as a spicy fish soup.
Such a delicious meal and a great experience!

Ahhh, we can totally empathise mate! Because we're meat eaters though we think it's important to see and understand what has to happen to an animal in order for us to have the meal on our table. We love eating in Asia as it's very common to respect the animal by eating the whole thing (like the fish carcass being used in the stew) rather than just the choice cuts. Cheers, Sheena

Fair enough samantha! It’s definitely not for everyone but I suppose as meat eaters it’s good for us to see where our food comes from. Hope you enjoyed this one samantha! Thanks for watching and hope you’re liking the Seoul series 😄 Cheers, Sheena

I am so surprised that you guys tried to eat alive octopus, which is unusual taste to western people. When you guys eat sea pineapple, dip into the red pepper paste rather than soy sauce with wasabi. The paste that Sheena put when wrapping up is not Gochujang but Ssamjang.
You guys are the best youtuber who can describe taste and texture of Korean food. Hope that many people will have interest on Korean food and try them. Thank you for sharing good video about Korean fish market and sea food :)

      Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena  7 months ago +1

Hi Mack Khayam. Thanks for watching this one. As we talked about in the video it's not alive while it is being eaten but has nerve endings that are still moving. Being meat eaters we know that an animal has to be slaughtered when we eat meat. You'll see in our videos that we go to as much effort as possible to make sure we practice nose to tail eating and making sure nothing is wasted. Thanks, Thomas

It was pricy Mimi B- it's such a shame when prices are sky high when that particular food is produced or readily available in that country. Korean peep also dip the sashimi into red chilli sauce but I don't see it on your table. The sauce tastes like a bit sour spicy and sweet. Guess you guys missed it. It sould be next to the soy sauce bottle sometimes they

a bit of critic from me, you two sound amazing alright but the way you speak is too slow. Makes the video sounds boring in a way, not lively and wasting time. Not that I don't like you two but i've been a subscribed to this channel since you were at maybe 13K subs. Just take this as a note and if you see other food bloggers like Mark Wiens or Strictly Dumpling they speak faster and make the video lively. Even smaller food bloggers like Davidsbeenhere, LivingBobby speak faster and make the video more lively. Keep it up the good work tho :)

It's always good for people to give critiques like you do (so feel free to do it with my videos haha)! Nice that you're not just saying what you don't like, but actually giving a possible solution. I think what other channels do to make it 'less boring' is that while someone is talking, they use a lot of B-roll. Most of the times it's in a quicker pace, a lot of shots while someone is talking. So it keeps the eyes and ears busy. What do you think?

*_"It's very salty. Very, very salty...but not in a bad way salty."_* 😂 You know how occasionally your food gets cold while you are setting up your shots, taking your pics and giving awesome commentary? Perhaps the broth was super salty because it reduced too much? I don't know...just thinking. Very interesting food day, y'all. Never tried sea pineapple. Eat tons of sashimi of course but never in lettuce wraps. Yup. Really loved this day. 👍

    • reverse engineers

Hahah yeah, I think you are totally right about the saltiness. Setting up the camera, figuring out what to say, than actually shoot it and f**k it up, so you have to do the shot again 😂

+Tosh and Sheena...when the liquid/water content getting lesser, the salt become more concentrated...just like salt itself...in it's original watery condition it is less salty than when it is dried up to become our salt on the table...

    • Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena
Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena  Year ago +2

😂😂😂 SO. SALTY. You know what Tosh, I reckon you're right. One minute the pot was almost overflowing with liquid and the next there was hardly any left. It's hard trying to juggle filming with cooking at the table! It was the same with Korean bbq- one minute the meat was raw and the next it was cooked to a crisp 😝 A second taste of the sea pineapple confirmed it's not one worth eating sashimi style. Next time we'd get some shellfish I reckon but we saw it everywhere and I was so keen to give it a go. Thanks so much for watching and commenting on this one Tosh, so glad you enjoyed it. Cheers, Sheena

Thomas and Sheena...What are the seafoods that you never seen it before, that you found out in this market trip? Any alien 👽 fish or sea creatures from the sea abyss?

    • tomie myspace
      tomie myspace Year ago +1

+Thomas...You should eat the eels (Jang-uh-gui)...the grilled one just like grilled Unagi in Japan...although Korean normally eats them in summer to increase energy and combat heat exhaustion...eels have lots of health benefits...: 1) High in protein for muscle build-up, tissue regeneration; 2) Contains calcium as much as other seafoods like shellfish eg.; 3) Lots of Vitamins such as A and E; 4) Helps lowering cholesterol and blood pressure; 5) Helps increase vascular strength; 6) Good for eyesight ... Plus it’s delicious

Hi tomie myspace! They had some really interesting eels at this market and some really huge shellfish that I'd never seen before. It's such an interesting place to check out! So much to look at 😀 Cheers, Thomas

Oh give me sashimi seafoods and wasabi + soy sauce...that's all I need...I can eat all day long...everything looks adventurous, interesting and yummy...halibut is nice...I guess they're not a sweet type of fish but the texture of it is nice for fillet and dipping into sauces purposes...easy to cut but firm...baby octopus is crawling for us to eat it...caress him/her in our mouths...orangy sea pineapple looks interesting in its texture and taste as you described it...the market looks amazing with all sort of seafoods to choose from...I will try everything if I get a chance to find adventurous and never seen before seafoods...even fugu fish...😀

Is that taste like asam pedas in malaysia??...that stew

    • tomie myspace
      tomie myspace Year ago +3

      +Baihaqi Bismillah ...
They just use the stew for boiling purposes, although they do put some flavours in it...they'll never do a strong flavours soups/gravy like Malaysian because in Sashimi style...the wasabi and soy sauce are already strong flavours...so they'll not destroy the fishy/seafoody/original flavours/tastes of each seafood by putting a strong stew...if you get what I mean...

    • Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena
Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena  Year ago +4

Hi Baihaqi 786, asam pedas is richer in flavour whereas the stew was quite watery and had less depth if you know what I mean. We're looking forward to eating Johor's asam pedas in 6 days time when we head back to Malaysia woo hoo! Thanks for watching and commenting on this one! Cheers, Sheena

You are most welcome, Thomas and Sheena. I enjoyed watching all the live seafood being sold. The fish hot pot reminds me of the Malaysian Chinese steamboat meal, where we can have a choice of clear broth, Tom Yum broth or Chinese herbal broth to cook on a portable stove and eat with all kinds of fresh ingredients, such as meat, fish, prawns, vegetables, eggs, noodles, tofu, etc. ☺☺☺
