When I was in school, I was the drummer for my school band and jazz band. This song was the bane of my existence. The drum part is simple, and easy to do. The issue is the speed and length of the song! It exhausted me and quite often the song would go on longer than it should because I was actively slowing down and thus the rest of the band would slow down to keep time, haha.

As a Metal drummer myself lemme tell ya: That prog part at 1:23 was outta controll. Best thing i've seen since the invention of drums ngl.

I've been drumming for almost 25 years and that shit was beautiful. Listened to it like 20 times already.

Vastly improves the song. But the truly astonishing thing is someone "hearing Abba for the first time." How is that even possible?

One thing great about the Abba songs is how they are rich in form. Great for a drummer.

i don't think you guys understand how insane that 7/16 part is. i barely understand polyrhythms at all but that was sick as hell and deserves so much more recognition

    • William Sprayberry
      William Sprayberry 4 months ago

Actually it's a 14 sixteen note pattern repeated 4 times.

    • William Sprayberry
      William Sprayberry 4 months ago

It's a 7 sixteenth note pattern repeated 8 times for 56 sixteen notes or 3.5 measures. Fun stuff

    • Swoopskee
      Swoopskee 4 months ago

you just practice until it clicks and then it comes automatically, odd meters and polyrhythms aren't really that complicated until you need to improvise over Giant Steps or play the Black Page
