In this video I will take apart my old Samsung Galaxy S6 in order to find out which components I can salvage for future electronics projects. I will also answer the popular question whether you can reuse the screen and camera modules. Let's get started!

Definitely the screens are what strikes me the most that cannot be reused, they are so beautiful and so useful, that it is a pity that so many are wasted every day

I have a bricked Galaxy s5 (trust me it's dead) but there is no physical damage to any components I think using the display as a small interface for a rasberry pi would be a good idea. I have not done research but according to this guy, I can just desoder the DSi pin connector and soder an hdmi in? that's weak man

3:51 and a few seconds after are the best thing I saw In quite a while. I have or more exactly had this problem where I couldn't find a new battery for my grandma's phone, so after seeing that it's just that simple I soldered in my headphone's battery since they don't work as of rn. And so far it works perfectly. Wish I watched this sooner but oh well.

I kept my old S5 complete, cleared out all the clutter and loaded up a load of electronics/engineering apps, also i have (admittedly not the best quality) a camera, light source, speaker (AF sig gen), mic (data logger\really really low bandwidth 'scope :-) ), tilt/motion sensor, and timer. All wifi connected. All with a sophisticated OS and API tying it all together.
Or I could have taken it apart for a few buttons, a semi-knackered battery and a coil :-)

I think the best way to use old phone is as security camera, which is wireless and you can use any online drive service as your storage for the video. Matter of fact if you choose medium resolution you get unlimited storage on google photos.

    and what are they for?

  • LEGENDoha9876
    LEGENDoha9876 2 months ago

Your phone doesn't get slower. Your needs get higher. Seeing even faster phones in stores and apps requiring more resources, it feels like phones get slower.
I would never take apart a working phone...

    • LEGENDoha9876
      LEGENDoha9876 2 months ago

@Jake Garrett I agree on that. But a fresh reset is always possible. The hardware itself doesn't get slower.
Apple... ;-) Updating phones OS to make it useless hehe

    • Jake Garrett
      Jake Garrett 2 months ago

Lol, Apple disagrees! But also, if you notice when your (Windows) computer gets a couple years old, things like just opening chrome may start taking 5-10 seconds, or the start menu hesitates a second, or just general lag, well then it’s basically one of 2 things: Windows operating system files get super cluttered through all the updates and things start getting scrambled taking longer to find (not fragmented, it happens on an SSD too), so a fresh install will get it working like new. Or it could just be when your nearing the capacity limits of the drive and as the drive fills up it gets slower (you would ideally only fill up half the SSD or at least only 80%, and mechanical disks just keep getting slower with any data you add but it gets obnoxiously bad towards the last 10%).
So just like your computer, you occasionally should do a clean install, the software just gets cluttered up.
