Oh yes! When it comes to iconic supercars, it doesn’t get much better than this! Mat’s in the McLaren 765LT and this week he’s lining up against Yianni in a Porsche 911 Turbo S.
The McLaren 765LT is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers an impressive 765hp & 800Nm of torque. This RWD supercar weighs in at 1,339kg and prices start from a staggering £280,000!
The Porsche 911 Turbo S, on the other hand, is almost half the price, coming in at £155,970. It may be cheaper, but it still packs a punch, producing 650hp & 800Nm from its 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine. However, it is heavier than the McLaren, tipping the scales at 1,640kg.

What i would like to know is what speed they were doing when the mclaren caught the porsche. The porsche was .2 of a second slower over the standing quarter with 100bhp less, 300kg heavier and £125k cheaper and stops quicker. What a feat of enginerring porsche.

@russell g I think unless you are running the GT2 RS, the 911 turbo or the 992 turbo are not gonna outpace the 765lt on a track, perhaps for the first few yards of a drag race but beyond that they are dust, this is included on the street as well, the 765lt is just a quicker car, end of story tbh.
Hi Reece yes i did see that but in the the everyday world like on the road the porsche would beat the mclaren every time.I have owned a 570s and also had a turbo. Now got a 992 gt3 and i would have the gt3 any day of the week. Not got the most horsepower but that normally aspirated engine and the way it handles is something else.
The 765 actually make around 885hp so the difference is even bigger making the porsche more impressive 🤷🏼♂️
@Timmy Nicolas yea no way in hell is that happening. 720s with a simple race gas tune will walk even built corn fed 911s.
I'm impressed how the 765LT has no traction issues whatsoever when flooring it. I think they have nailed it and not many seriously powerful cars can match that.

Simply amazing how the 911 Turbo S launches like an electric vehicle. It launched dead even with the Taycan but still has the power to pull away. Obviously the 765 is a monster, but the 911 Turbo S is something special for where it sits.

Wow. I'm so used to seeing the Turbo S rocket off the line and crush other cars. But that McLaren is _nuts!_ A really good launch for just RWD, then to reel in the Porsche and blow past it like that... That's some serious acceleration.

765LT has shorter gearing good low end and midrange compared to 720s
But 720s has more top end and it reels on litre bikes on top end

On 1/2 mile 720s traps 171-174 mph in 15.8 seconds with best time of 15.3 seconds with toyo R888 tires
And 765LT traps 179 mph on 1/2 mile in 15.5 seconds

Porsches all have very wide tyres. This is why they have a tendancy to brake “better” than other cars.
In reality from high speeds friction isnt what is stopping you braking fast, it is simply braking power.
That being said, wider tyres means more noise, more rolling resistance, worse performance in the wet, excessive wear, more expensive rubber, less steering feel…
@Nazar Gunko Yes they are literally like that. I'll tell you about one that I had a discussion with and that person was like 911TS punches above its weight as a reference to the 0.2s difference in 1/4mile times here, in this video. And then in another video, the World's Great Drag Race 10, it was the same person who wrote that the Porsche killed the Ferrari but the difference in 1/4mile times were the same 0.2s as it's here. They really have double standards and difficulty in digesting losses for the Porsche.

@Ethan Storm Carbon brakes (carbon-ceramics really) is about fade and weight.
For only one hard stop even drum brakes can make the work perfectly.
Porsche brake better because the engine is further behind, and the load transfer leaves more weight behind than the Mclaren or any other car, so you can brake more with the rear tires.
This is why Porsches have historically braked very well, not because they have good brakes.
I'll have the Porsche any day of the week. You can actually fit in that car and I'd love to have it as a daily driver.

Porsche was well and truly obliterated, even more so in the roll. Amazing how fast things move on. Can’t fault the Porsche for every day use, but as a performance car, it’s well and truly mullered by the Mcdaddy. Probably time for a change of engine by Porsche as the gap will only increase, Porsche usually fairs well against Mclaren but it’s clear to see the game has moved on

@karuzo411 Those 0.2s difference is just in the 1/4mile times from a standstill, now add the fact that the LT is RWD and this is an unprepped surface and then see what other RWD stock cars can do a 10s 1/4mile on a runway like this!!!!
The rolling races indicate the actual difference in between the two cars and that's when the more weight and less power of the Porsche is more evident.
The price of the 765LT has to be on the higher side as it's limited in numbers and compare to a limited production Porsche they're fairly similar.
The Porsche does punch above its weight category but in this matchup the LT is too much for it too handle but its got impressive brakes though.

However what you get for your extra 120k is the performance AFTER the 1/4 mile.
Coming back to my original comment: disregarding the traction off the line, the porsche isnt anything remarkable. The Mclaren on the other hand has superbike acceleration.

What I pointed out was, to back up up Martin's point, the reason for 765LT reeling in the 911 S Turbo so easily is that, in addition to being significantly lighter (300kg less), the power difference in 765 LT's favour is far more (over 200hp) than what McLaren is officially claiming.
Of course 'actual power' the cars IS relevant. It's the most important thing impacting any car's performance. It's nonsense to deny that.

For what it is, the Porsche performed INSANELY well. Half the price, twice as usable, and more reliable while still able to keep up with the McLaren and out brake it with a cold set of brakes.

I call this a win again for the 911. Truly impressive. $100K less with a rear seat and in the real world, is faster. Not condoning street racing but its faster off the line and faster in normal settings from a roll. You aren't going to drive around in the sportiest settings and you aren't going to keep your foot planted that long on a public road. Think what the Turbo would do with $100K in mods. Which would I take if money wasn't an option...765LT hands down. But to be able to get my daughter in the back, drive it every day, do daily errands. Turbo is mighty impressive still.

Nah, that's the beauty of American sports cars and in this case, the C8 and C8 Z06. When the ZR1 comes out, most likely nothing in the gas engine segment will compete at it's price range.

When buying , I did look at the 720 , as our conversation went on and I said it’s going to be my daily drive you could see by his expression it probably was not a good idea same with Ferrari guy as there tones seemed hesitant ,
Porsche was more enthusiastic about how great daily driving a Porsche is .

The Porsche is still more impressive. You can actually travel in it, and fit people in the back in a pinch, and unlike the McLaren it won't spontaneously go up in flames. Been less than a year since I first hand saw a 650S self-ignite and burn..

There were already a few cars which featured on this channel that were faster than the turbo s, it's just that those cars it didn't go one-on-one or feature in the same video as the turbo s.
I'd still take the Turbo S over the McLaren. The fact that it only lost by .2 seconds in the quarter mile is a testament to the engineering marvel of that car. Some day I hope to have a 992 Turbo S sitting in my driveway!
So if 765lt 4wheels drive then different story
be fair: McLaren is a plastic box, lighter and more HP. I'm more impressed how Full Metal glory Porsche still did very well
And on the street the Porsche will blitz the Mclaren every time - it gets over a car length in front both off the line & rolling start, it's only the top end that the Mclaren has it.
That's like saying you'll get water over pizza. These cars are built for comepetly different things.
@Rahal Wijeratne If that's the case then why do the majority of cars lose to it? Sure, one could probably heavily modify a car to beat it, but then the drivability will suck. The Porsche is a 10 second car that anyone can drive on the street and highway while also getting decent gas mileage.

Last year a few stock cars actually posted better 1/4mile times compared to the Porsche on this channel.
I've always wondered how the 911 turbos would fare against other sports cars without their 4 wheel drive system. Because without it the 911 turbo would lose its traction advantage, but, it would also lose a significant amount of weight.
Porsche Engineers are amazing

@Rocavelli Johnson I know but tell that to the other person saying hp is most important for top speed. Aerodynamics has a big part in top speed along with hp and many other factors.

@Mrki it’s not comparable and not representative as rwd can’t put the availability power down since it’s severely restricted by ESP
@Amarjit Singh senna makes too much drag for the top end. SVJ isn’t exactly as track oriented as the senna. Mclaren senna is meant to corner, which is why it’s ugly.
