  • Phil takes us for a closer (eye safe!) look at the two-octillion ton star that rules our solar system. We look at the sun's core, plasma, magnetic fields, sunspots, solar flares, coronal mass ejections, and what all of that means for our planet.

How did you come up with 700 million tons per second? I think you may have forgotten to carry the three in your calculation. It seems scant for a sphere 400,000 times our earth. (maybe you were talking about the daylight side and not the night side... I'm sorry.)

    • Dina Hamad
      Dina Hamad Day ago

he said Celsius. and in this case kelvin is basically the same as Celsius as there is only 273 degrees Celsius between the 2 units which is insignificant in this case.

If the sun is powered by a nuclear reaction of hydrogen why are we not duplicating that with our nuclear reactors?

    • Raycar
      Raycar Month ago +2

@Aimee L I agree it would take a lot of energy. It would also take a lot of hydrogen to last as long as it has. That's why it doesn't make sense to me. If we can't duplicate something that occurs naturally then we are doing something wrong.
The Safire Project is a working model of the Sun. Check it out.

It take a hell of a lot of energy to fuse hydrogen and we dont currently have a way to recreate the conditions needed. However, scientist are working on it so maybe in the future this will be an option

Theoretically, if I could position myself in space with both the Sun and Earth in my vision ... and if I held a big, opaque board that blocked the sunlight from the Earth ... then, if I lifted the board to let the light through, could I actually see the light travel from the Sun to the Earth over the next 8 minutes (assuming that there's some space dust to reflect the light)?

@bailey04ful Is your god ok with you insulting people like that? Just saying...
Truth is, I'm here because my mom and dad... No god created me. Us not knowing the origin of life doesn't mean there must be a god. The day that your god (or any other for that matter) speak to all of us, at one, telling us that he is the only god, that we must stop fighting wars and be nice to each other, that day I'll believe.
      Have a nice day 👍🏼

Zeen Daniels actually you’re the proof, the fat. That you or baby scientist can create a human body from nothing, where do you start? Chemicals can’t create humans, you can tell me all the building blocks of what humans a made out of but you can never create a human. The day I see chemicals put a human being together then I’ll become a atheist. You moron

The sun is not a lump of hot hydrogen gas. Hot gas can't coalesce together in one piece. As a matter of fact, the sun is a lump of dense radioisotopes in which decaying radioisotopes emit out intense heat and light. The sun undergoes fission process on its radioisotopes, and not fusion on hydrogen gas as widely claimed. Tokamak reactor can't even produce a trace amount of helium gas which clearly shows that fusion process is a bluff. Einstein's famous equation, E=mc^2 is wrong otherwise garbage also can be used to make nuclear bombs as long as it is matter or it has mass. Energy and matter can't interchange one another according to Einstein's famous equation. One must have photons before one can emit out photons. Photons are particles and they have mass. All forms of EMWs including heat and light are dynamic photons per volume per time in different saturations. Hydrogen and helium gases are diamagnetic. On the other hand, dense radioisotopes are paramagnetic with a huge deposit of them within the core of the sun will give rise to a rather strong magnetic field. that surrounded itself. Only truly dense elements will sink within the core of the sun. Definitely hydrogen and helium are considered to be too light to be presence within the core of the sun. If you are interested in real discoveries, I would recommend you to read my book, The Unification theory - Volume One and you will be amazed with lots of new, interesting discoveries. In God I trust.

What is really surprising is that the amount of heat produced in the core is actually very small in terms of volume. The amount of continuous energy produced in a cubic meter of the Sun's core is only about 280 watts, roughly the same as 3 regular tapered candles. It's the huge size of the core, and the resultant sum of all this energy that makes the Sun so hot.
