Both Mac and Chromebook are based on Unix. And the price difference is enormous. Agree that some of the software is not supported on Chromebook - yet, but if more people start getting Chromebooks, those software will start getting supported on Chromebooks too. I think people should buy chromebook unless there is some particular software that they need and is not supported on chromebook yet.

    I suppose you chose
    - space gray
    - 2.3GHz 8-core
    - 32 GB ram
    - 5500M with 8GB
    - 1 TB ssd

How different is the keyboard than the one that was there before the butterfly keys? It is exactly the same? Are the keys still wider like in the butterfly keys? Because thats one thing I liked about the butterfly keys

Screen not up to scratch, apparently there’s already reports that the display isn’t 500 nits bright (more like 450 bits) I’m also expecting the screen to start having lamination issues.

I would like to see a performance comparison between the maxed out 16" MacBook Pro (SSD can only be 1TB, CPU 2.3 GHz base clock is good as well.) and the MacBook Pro 9.1 mid 2012 15"
    Mac OS Catalina 10.15.1
    2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
    Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536MB
    1 TB SSD

I’m hesitant to buy the 13” MacBook Pro because of the controversial keyboard. While the 16” MacBook Pro is nice it’s to big for travel. A 14” MacBook Pro would be ideal and I could finally give my iMac (2013) a break.

I think you go with this:
    - 2.6GHz 6-core i7
    - 16GB 2666MHz DDR4
    - AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory
    - 1TB SSD Storage
Because this is what I would likely go for. (Not the 5500M 8GB though, I don’t need something that strong lol)

    My guess would have be:
2.3ghz i9 (2.4 is $200 more and isnt worth the price)
    32gb ram
    2TB ssd
    Radeon pro 5500M with the 8GB GDDR6
    Space Gray

    It's weird because I have a 2014 15" MacBookPro and a Custom Built Gaming PC with a GTX1080 and i7 8700K.
They are worlds apart, my Mac, which was the highest config you could get, can't even open a Word document without lagging.

I'm seriously considerng the upgrade as I use my Mac for school and having it crash during a Math Test (Like it usually does) is not great...

    Should i buy the i7 or i9?

And is the 5300m sufficient or should i upgrade it too???

  • alexshdvideo
    alexshdvideo 27 days ago

Thank you for your review. Makes me want to wait for an updated 27” to see what they do since this new 16”MBP should smoke a current loaded 27” iMac. My 2014 MBP 15” is OK.. but is showing it’s age vs running ProRes RAW or RAW??? Forget about it..

"I really thought it would be more expensive" Thats how Apple soften you up to their over the top prices, when they do anything other than bend you over as far as you will go then people think they have done something nice....Give me back magsafe and usb 3 that they deleted for no other reason than 'just because' and more profits from accessories. Then I will start to take their computers and prices more seriously again.
