Roy Keane has a better first touch than Berbatov? 🤔

    • stevindiesel steve
      stevindiesel steve 23 days ago

I’m a Spurs fan, was a massive fan of Berbatov who I thought was relatively underrated, and I think that Keane is one of, if not THE best CM’s in Prem history, and actually up there globally. He scored so many important screamers, could pass sublimely, and terrified the Bejesus out of almost everyone! (Including his teammates and manager)

15:20 here is where I disagree with Zidane's assessment. Today's football awards are always predicated about how many goals someone scored. When Zidane played in the 90s and 2000s, the midfield was asked to create and control the midfield, not score 20-30 goals a season. And Zidane's importance can be matched how France performed with or without him, with him they were near unbeatable from 1998-2001 and one injury to him and France couldn't get past the group stage in the 2002 World Cup, and at 34 he bossed the likes of Spain, Brazil (which is arguably the best individual performance in that tournament) and Portugal in the 2006 World Cup knockout stages and after he retired France had to wait another generation to reach those heights again

If you ask Sir Alex Ferguson, I think even he would tell you that Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Peter Schmeichel were the only automatics during their dominant run in the 90s

Football has become now the domain of statisticians. We don't even need to see games anymore to pass a judgment about who is a good player. Just show some tables with numbers about tackles per minute, or goals per game, and the rest is opinion. What an impoverishment of the intellect and appreciation for the beautiful game!

Drogba scored 100 goals in 226 games for Chelsea. By what standard is that not a prolific goal scorer. And I am a Milanista, so I have not bias for him. The fact that he scored 10 goals in 10 finals only shows how clutch he was.

Zidane comparison to ozil is cool and fair regarding player stats but zidane brings more than stats when he steps on the pitch and is a leader in the locker room. Sometimes the fear zidane puts on opposition without doing anything is itself not seen in the stats. Some players have a aura that can't be measured.

Stats are nice, but football is so much more complex than that. You can compare the stats of Ozil and Zidane all you want, the numbers alone won't tell you their impact on the game of their respective teams.
If I'm constipated for a week and have the runs for the next one, my stats will tell you that my bowel movements were completely normal in a two weeks period...

Respect for a genuinely thought provoking vid and you do successfully challenge a lot of generally accepted things which aren't quite true -

No1 Zidane. So wrong. His goal ratio at Madrid compared to Ozil's at Arsenal is miles off. Zidane playing with Raul, Ronaldo etc. encourages him to score LESS not more because he's focused on getting them the ball not scoring goals. You're right to highlight his at times inconsistency but comparisons to Portuguese Ronaldo and Messi are again not helpful to understand the player as he played in a completely different time.
What is misunderstood about Zidane and the Galacticos at Madrid is infact they weren't THAT good. Zidane's time at Madric became defined by one thing in particular, Madrid's mistake in selling Makelele. Madrid never replaced him and never recovered and their era signified the passing of the torch in la liga and in the tactical approach to football as a whole across the world as Barca's short passing possession game dictated by Xavi and lit up by Ronaldinho provided Catalan dominance.
But still Zidane himself is as close to what you would call a footballing genius as you will ever see. He's a scholar's players, an artist but effective, poised yet always on the brink.
Then of course the name, Zinedine Zidane, the best name in football history.
    The bald spot, iconic.

No Top 10 List in football (no matter what the list is about) should be certified unless it has Nicklas Bendtner on it. If it’s very difficult (or even insane) to put Nicklas Bendtner on it, don’t be ashamed to make Nicklas Bendtner number 11 on the top 10 list.

Before considering solely the stats...the coach’s/manager’s playing style should also be considered because thats the main thing which greatly influences a player’s outcome whether its, goals scored or aerial duels won or tackles won or saves or any other, per game !

fuck stats, i don't know about other teams but i know my team very well, and marcelo is shocking at defense, especially last two season I can't count how many times he let us down by him not defending well, what comes to my mind now is the match against girona at home and malcom's goal against us in copa del ray, marcelo is our legend but it's bot a myths he became a bad defender

again fuck stats and fuck who think they can make us judge if a player is good or not, stats will make bale look better than zidane for god's sake

It’s not just about the goals and assists though is it. It’s attitude, work rate, desire, passion, commitment, link-up play, tracking back etc. You can’t compare ozil to zidane just on passes and goals. There are many variables. Admittedly too many for you to consider in this video.

We romanticize the past and we let it stick in our head for too long that we fail to accept that present of football and sport in general is far better than the past. The same reason why after all the stats that Ronaldo and Messi have, a lot of people fail to recognise them as the greatest players ever, even though they've done about triple of times what Maradona and pele did.

My personal tribute to king drogba is this...his reign was the first time I see a striker send top class defenders on injury after they collided..when the reverse was usually the case...pique and man u serbian center back then could testify....but most of all it gkadens my heart that most validation of this mans spefial rarenes is not even coming from chelsea fans but from fans of liverpool, arsenal and man united

    A few mistakes;
Maldini was obviously the best left back in the world, but at no point in his career was he ever the best centre back. Superb, but not the best.

Keane was ARGUABLY better than Giggs? He was INARGUABLY better than Giggs, anyone who doubts it is clueless. Giggs was the LEAST effective of the '99 midfield. Not to say he was bad (obviously), but the other 3 were more important.
Milner didn't burst on the scene at Villa, that's ridiculously misleading. People knowledgeable about football knew of him long before due to his spells at Leeds and Newcastle.
Walcott wasn't an out and out right winger and can't be judged as such. He played half his career as a striker. He certainly can't be compared to Hazard, either as like for like (because they're aren't the same type of player), or on overall quality.
Your analysis of Scholes and Zidane are so littered with bullshit I can't even be arsed to list them... you sound like a football booksmart trying to impress those who don't know any better for subscribers, because to anyone who knows the game, you don't sound like you even saw them play.

156 goals🤔 yeah drogba did score lots of goals for chelsea, he popped up when we needed him most and that is why he is one of the best strikers in football history and king of the premier league in my opinion, although he didnt score many each season he had everything from clinical finishes to skill runs and passes, he is an icon👑

  • Cream147player
    Cream147player Month ago

I don’t understand the thumbnail. 0.4 goals per game is simply a great record with no caveats. Short of your crazy good finishers, most strikers would be delighted with this ratio. Drogba of course offered so much more besides his scoring. I’m not sure anyone had the idea that he was a hugely prolific goalscorer in the vein of Ronaldo, Aguero etc.
