Building a gaming PC FOR JUST 450$
    RX580 8GB (will upgrade to RX5700 XT)
    Ryzen 7 1700 @ 3.8ghz 1.38V
Asus Strix B350-F (might get a B450 Tomahawk instead)
    16gb G.Skill Aegis RAM @ 3000mhz
    MX330 case
    Stock CPU cooler
    2tb Seagate Barracuda
    256gb Samsung 860 Evo
Most of teh parts are used, but THIS is a cheap workstation, gaming and streaming PC that will pay itself off very quickly.

Also at this price point: Just get the PS4 Pro. A Ryzen APU powered build isn't even nearly going to match a PS4 Pro, don't be ridiculous.

No, please don't get a Ryzen 3 2200G. At least get a Ryzen 5 2400G, it has a much more powerful graphics processor and also supports simultaneous multi threading.

If you are going to use both SSD and HDD, set them both at RAID 0. That way you can just throw the OS on the SSD then the HDD for storage. Don't forget to make sure the SSD isn't checked in Disk Defragger.
Also make sure that TRIM is on.

  • stunt94u

I, personally, would go with a ryzen 2600 and just one stick of 8gb at 3000MHz just to get me started, adding a matching one short after.
    But hey, that's just me.

So just for comparison sake, being in Australia using the exact same parts and staticice.com.au search engine it came to $1039. The video card could definitely be cheaper, or atleast a better model as there aren't many 8gb 570 in the wild here. Good video. I spent 2500 on my last build, but that included an ultrawide dell monitor, back in 2012. I am astounded at how cheap SSD are now! Even in Oz that ssd is only $44!!

If you are going to be using a separate graphics card I don't really see any reason to go for an APU as that limits your bandwidth to x8. So depending on what prices you can find I'd go for a first gen ryzen 3 or ryzen 5 like 1200 up to a 1600.

  • will p
    will p 5 months ago +2

I think there is a ~250gb pcie m.2 drive for around $45 from Kingston on amazon. Sata m.2 for 30ish. Then yeah 2.5" ssds are crazy cheap now.
As the video goes on I got one of thoes Hitachi drives. Seems great for mass storage for the few months I've had it.

The speed of memory and timings can get you about 30-50% of performance (depending on the game) in gaming regarding ryzen cpus because they have latency issues.

in defense of consoles, i can get a used xbox one for the price of the 570. either way, it really is much simpler on a console and some people either dont have the time or energy to do mare than connect 2 cables. i spent about an hour simply changing cases only for me to forget to connect a cable. so i spent about another hour troubleshooting what was going on with my computer. plus you didnt show any actual benchmarks for this build. console games are very highly optimized for consoles so a comparison between that and this pc build would have been helpful

    • CovertBrony
      CovertBrony 4 months ago

Well you could even get an Xbox One X for $350 at one point.

I would go for the PowerColor RX 580 8GB (Red Dragon) for $168.99 from MicroCenter (I know they only have 25 locations in the US) and they have the R5 1600 for $79.99 right now with combo deals when paired w/ a Mobo ($30 off a compatible Mobo when bought together)

  • Magnus Nilsson
Magnus Nilsson 5 months ago +1

Fractal has a cheaper PSU @600W for 385SEK which is about $41 not much cheaper but more wattage, athlon 200GE is about $50 cheaper than the 2200G if you are getting a RX570 anyway, or you could get a Ryzen3 1200 saving $25 if you really need those 4 cores.
But still a very good build :D

    • Arned
      Arned 5 months ago

2200G you can ignore getting GPU for the moment, get something like Fortis 3 for cooler why??? because this is an investment. If you wanna your games on SSD go for MX500 500GB or Su800 512GB why??? because I don't think you will be more than 350GB for games you can get 1TB HDD for data and games that don't need fast load then you can go. Motherboard no this model something like ASRock B450(M) Pro4 or MSI 450-A PRO why??? because in future all that you need is swap CPU(handle R7 1700 after little OC).
For GPU in 1080p on max details, 4GB is ok you can run off memory but you will be lack maybe 300MB(CURSE YOU AC:O) for 200$ RX 580 4GB will be better I think well 4GB RX 570 is 150$ great run for the buck too.
If you get MOBO with 4banks use them... 8GB dual ram will be ok for moments.

cpu, ram and graphics card can be bought used. esipecially there are gread deals on second hand market at graphics cards. all those old mining cards are obselete for mining but still great for gaming. also graphics cards are hard to broke.

Mx500 500gb 512mb dram cache and tlc everything else is worse.
    3tb go figure it's $4 more.
Psu it's a 550w corsair cx unit so plenty good enough.
Dual channel ram can be over clocked if you want or not. Case I dunno. Corsair aren't as good as you think (I have a 750d) but I'll take that over cougar (even though they might be fine so call it a draw). The board has a 6 phase vrm so all you have to do later is buy a gpu and you can throw an 8 or even 16 core ryzen chip and it'll be a beast!

The Ryzen 3 1200 is the exact same CPU as the 2200G except without integrated graphics. Get that instead, it's cheaper.

    • Toms Tech
Toms Tech 6 months ago +1

@Luke it's NOT the same chip. Look at a fucking die shot ya gimp. Your saving a few bucks but having to split the cores and having to talk through infinity fabric which is tied to memory. You're not going to give a shirt about $10 this time next year but you'll probably care about the performance differences in games and tasks.

    • Luke
      Luke 6 months ago +1

@Toms Tech it's the same chip. The 2200G is Zen, not Zen+. This build has a B450 motherboard so you can overclock it to the same frequency as the 2200G.

    • Toms Tech
      Toms Tech 6 months ago

No its 2+2 cores split across ccxs with high latency hops across the infinity fabric and built on the older 14nm process.
2200g is a single unified cpu and gpu which some software tasks can use for acceleration. It's a much better chip. (I don't have either. I just have 19 years of pc building and benchmarking experience)

  • william gingerich

Uhh. An x58 Xeon with a 970 is always going to outperform a cheap apu. Even if it’s older hardware.

    • SMRT
      SMRT 6 months ago +1

Problem is, there is not much expandability, old hardware, good quality x58 motherboard with decent overclocking capabilities are expensive. Also runs at gen 2 speeds and not gen 3. So there are a lot of caviots.
So you're paying pretty much the same amount of money in total for older, weaker hardware that lacks support and up to date feature set.
