Evaporate is technically the wrong word, evaporation is actually when water dissipates into vapor over time and not due to heat. What you were doing was vaporizing the water. Also I believe the wooden bowl was keeping ab oil due to it's higher specific heat than the metal therefore staying warmer than the metal. The metal cools down faster and heats up faster than wood does.

If I wanted to boil water in a wooden (plastic, lacquer, stone, paper, cloth, etc etc) bowl, I'd just drop red hot rocks in the water and exchange them for new ones when they cooled off, just like our ancestors used to do from the Ice Age onwards... yes, European descended peoples as well as "native" people....best survival trick to sterilize water, and you'd still have the bowl afterwards!

Because latex gloves work best when working with fire or anything that's hot. wouldn't want to spread germs or get your hands dirty. You might get them to melt to your skin though, that risk makes the gloves a necessary risk.

I have boiled water in plastic bottles, dry bags, and even a heavy canvas hat once but I've never tried wood. But, I absolutely could boil water in a wood bowl if I needed to. All you have to do is heat up some rocks in the fire and then drop them in the bowl. It'll boil pretty quickly and easily.
Edit: and then you mentioned my method at the end of the video.

That's why you don't boil the vessel in a survival situation. You heat the rocks in a fire and put them directly into the water in your bowl that way you heat it up to a boil but don't destroy it. It also keeps you from drinking varnish in this instance.

Short answer yes, the water keeps the bowl cold enough to not burn. Filla plastic bottle completely with water amd throw it in a fire and itl stay there till the pressure pops from boiling water then itl finally melt.
