How to recover data from a dead hard drive (for beginners)

  • Published on Sep 20, 2015
  • This is a quick video to show how you can do a data recovery from a dead hard drive.
Important Notes: - If your hard disk is still under the guarantee time, it would be wiser to send it to the manufacturing company instead of opening it this way.
    - This video explains how to solve one specific problem that might face the hard disk. Follow these instructions only if the hard drive you have sound's like the one in this video.

Hi ! My HDD fell off my desk and hit the floor.. It has a similar clicking noise. Its powers up fine then hits a repeat pattern of clicks.. It feels like it is trying to read but is stuck... I have contacted a pro but he isn't very optimistic... Thanks for this vid. I am feeling very positive it can be fixed!

@eppsislike You are absolutely right. He was trying to tell me there was no way the head could be re positioned if it was stuck on the platter. He was suggesting a very expensive removal service. I told him that I wasn't interested in that and would rather just loose my data if need be. Well I told him straight and he tried to wiggle his way out etc. So I met him, he is now taking a look and I am waiting on his reply. Thanks a lot..

Were you able to fix it? Pro's usually aren't very optimistic so that they can sell you a service for a rip-off price.

By the exactly same Hard drive you have, swap the PCBs between the two, and Run a file system repair on the old one. (ex. CHKDSK)

This is obviously not a dead hard drive and this has nothing to do with data recovery. You just repaired a broken hard drive.

this is idea... you need first to start disk to do it. This operation is meant to save data after it, because disk is no more safe...
