G8 ThinQ hands-on: LG's newest flagship

  • Published on Feb 24, 2019
  • The LG G8 ThinQ is an updated version of the G7 - and it can read your palm. LG’s big upgrade this year is a new front-facing camera that can detect motion for gesture controls, take improved selfies, and use the pattern of veins in your palm to unlock the phone with Hand ID.

The other brands neither have anything revolutionary anything from improved techs except the foldable phones and the One 7 with a complete unlimited screen with a new tech to lift the front cameras above the screen. I like LG and if you look for an upgrade a tech improvement is just good enough.

i swear LG just can't win with American reviewers. the dude said the phone's specs are lackluster and included snapdragon 855 in that group. pretty sure even when Samsung Note 9 was released with a six month old Snapdragon 845, the reviewer would still call it a new chipset.

Truly. Don't understand the hate. Not like they got rid of the FP in implement face unlock (cough iPhone). And I'd be able to unlock it as I take it out of my pocket, whereas S10 I think that'd be pretty difficult given the lack of a tactile fp that is underscreen. Whole argument of fp VS face id out the window. LG offering both = win

@ben's gadget reviews The guy says not a lot here to upgrade from G7. Well, I count a 1/6th larger battery, brand new SOC, OLED, new biometrics/tof, new earpiece (it does some stereo audio out loud too right?), updated camera, but yeah. Other than that it's basically very similar. If it was an iPhone they'd consider it a big upgrade I bet.

    • ben's gadget reviews
ben's gadget reviews 3 months ago

@Davis Lawrence also when LG still use a notch they're calling it boring and bad but just a few weeks ago they gushing about OnePlus 6t which ... also has a notch? A smaller one yes but the g8 justifies having a larger one with the tof camera
