Hey Cleetus , I have an ‘84 Corvette (semi-stock) and would like to know what you suggest to get some power out of it without replacing everything, altogether. Please don’t tell me to dump the car as everyone else suggests this and it has very sentimental value for me (more than you could ever imagine). It’s just a dog as you’re probably already aware. Still has the dreaded cross-fire injection which I know is the biggest problem, but I did put trick flow heads and changed the exhaust (headers) and did the simple things (performance chip, lower thermostat, oversized pulleys, etc.). It’s still a dump truck and I feel I have been going backwards instead of making any progress. I also don’t feel that I got any bang for the buck on the trick flow heads, possibly because it’s not working properly with the other components. It now has a computer that was completely reprogrammed and chipped which now makes it backfire and fail emissions. I purchased a used “original ECM and chip” to get it back to where it was, but where it was is dreadful. Spending money after money to go backwards and I can’t abandon this car as it means so much to me and my family (long story). I just want it to run decent and respectable. I’m not needing it to run 10’s, 11’s, or even 12’s (but 12’s would be awesome). I just want it at the very least “respectable” for its generation. Can you give me any advice ? Thank you, Cleetus !

  • mutant alien robot knight

If I remember correctly from when you first started the engine... You didn't break in the cam... So that is a problem then also you didn't seat the rings... On top of that you ran boost before the rings seated, if you do that the last will go right past the rings and cause serious blowby and never let the rings seat... Maybe that's why it blew up?

I have to say you guys won the prize for the most destroyed engine I have ever seen and my 30 years of racing. Even my friends that's been in it as long as I have said the same thing. Of course none of us have ever built a big turbo motor like you. So this could be normal for you. I have just never seen a set of Pistons destroy their self like that. I've seen guys use some of the worst castings of a piston there are and their engine never look like that once it would go up. I look forward to following your progress. Good luck I hope this isn't something that will happen again. David

THE LS SADLY FOR THE CHEVY GUYS THE IS ALL FORD IN DESIGN. NOT 1 ASPECT OF THE OLD SMALL BLOCK CHEVY LIVES IN THE LS. WHAT CHEVY GUYS ARE DOING TODAY WITH THIS GENERIC FORD COPY THE LS. THE FORD GUYS WERE DOING 30 YEARS AGO WITH THE 302 5.0 HO AND THE 351 WINDSORS. ONE MAGAZINE YEARS BACK TOOK A FULLY STOCK MEXICAN 5.0 MOTOR (IT HAS A HIGHER NICKEL CONTENT) AND SUPERCHARGED IT AND SHOT IT WITH NITROUS. THE MOTOR MADE 750HP AND THEY RAN IT DOWN THE QUARTER MILES 80 TIMES THEN BROKE DOWN THE ENGINE. THE ONLY THING THEY FOUND WAS STRESS CRACKS AROUND THE WEBBING OF THE MAINS, BUT STRANGELY IT NEVER BLEW AFTER 80 PASSES AT FULL THROTTLE TO THE BREAKING POINT WITH THE INTENT TO PURPOSELY BREAK IT. THAT IS AMAZING. TODAY WHAT THE CHEVY GUYS ARE DOING IS OLD NEWS AND THEY ARE THROWING A PARADE DOWN 5 AVE WITH THERE REGURITATED FORD 427 HIGH RISER ENGINE AKA RAISED PORT 351 WINDSOR. WHAT A JOKE.

I had a 1970 Barracuda with a 383 in it. The guy I got it from said the rods let go at 8,000 RPM. One rod sliced a hole through the entire block, even cutting the cam in two. Inside that block was a piston with a rod wrapped around it! I didn't keep it, though it would've been a neat conversation piece.

That's a brand new engine. You guys need to go back to school and learn how to work on a good vehicle not a Chevy. They blow up too easy. That was that nut That guy left a note engine when he build it at the factory or at your shop. That nutt was out of his brain for using a Chevy Product.

  • Mark Shock
    Mark Shock 12 days ago

Yeah it's very entertaining seeing you turn at Chevy apart. It makes my day see any Chevy problems . I'm all FORD. Chevy has too many problems for me. And that started at the architect. And the engineer. And the drunks that put Them together..... Add a company that knows they have serious problems manufacturing. But they still put Krapp out to the public. And stupid people By them... I used to drive a Chevy back in the early eighties. But I had my 1st problem with a engine. And the car itself... I switch to the world's best Vehicle out there.FORD.. There's more Fords on the road today then Chevy's will ever be. I pull up to a stop sign I see 5 or 6 Ford' S. In 1 or 2 of the Other junk out there...

That's a good Chevy I didn't live long. Are you could say that is a typical Chevy. If it can't take The fuel don't give it so much Chevy's can't take it. Chevy's motors are known for blowing up specially heads That's what you call a good Chevy. Great manufactured crapp
