Fuck yes this is so amazing learning about the best devs in video game history. From U.S. and was introduced with the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Favorite game of all time and looking forward to trying the first two games as well as getting into the books. Love!

Honestly, I played Witcher 2 in 2012 like 8 times, before playing the first. Then I played the third and then.. I gave a chance to The Witcher. I don't care about graphics only about story and atmosphere. And that's why I love it. It's still my favorite. Even tho gameplay and combat system sucks, I really enjoyed it.

I spent 10 minutes pausing and unpausing frame by frame to figure out the screen blinks at 12:09. It just says:

Witcher 2 didn't get nearly the amount of limelight it deserves! W1 was interesting, quirky -- it was like a Polish Gothic. It definitely held promise for the completely new take on some game mechanics in RPG: combat, alchemy... And the way those mechanics fused with the lore was spotless.
But ever since that W2 trailer, I knew exactly what to expect from W3. It was the level of quality that I didn't expect from a European publisher. It had all the qualities of a truly breathtaking world with intricate storylines. From the first moments, W2 is a blast. Everything from the way Geralt is implicated in the murder, right after a castle siege and a friggin' dragon! It's a damn shame W2 never gets the credit it's due.

Witcher 2 is the best of the series by far. 3 wasn’t even close in terms of great characters, story, and gameplay. The things that truly matter. One of the best rpgs I’ve ever played. W3 keeps getting all this attention, but people forget Witcher 2 kind of surprised everyone and came out of nowhere winning many game of the year awards and had all kinds of talk about it. That’s how I first heard of the Witcher, was all the game journalists saying Witcher 2 is amazing. They weren’t kidding.

CDPR is one of the last examples we have from the old days when games were made like art. Through real effort, creativity and time. They didn't sell out and because of that made history and are one of the most successful developers. I gurantee you if they sold out to atari, EA, ubi or other large publishers their games wouldn't be a fraction of what they are today.

So I'm not saying there is no merit to any of the complaints from those ex-employees that recently came out with grievances, but after these docs, and seeing Marcin and the rest came from and had to go through, and how much love from every employee featured here is on display, if I were there during that, there's no way they wouldn't get a pass for the negatives and my undying loyalty as a part of this amazing company. Especially when the product is one of the greatest games of all time. This why docs like this are great, too. It deepens and enriches my love for, and appreciation of, a great thing and the people that made it.

I think if The Witcher 2 wasn't as good as it was, I probably would have never touched The Witcher 3. But I remember skipping The Witcher 1 because I didn't much like the combat at the time, the concept was very interesting for me. Then The Witcher 2 came along & I was never very good at RPGs or understanding how certain skills worked, so I quit because I couldn't beat the Kraken boss at the start. Eventually a colleague told me I had to use Yrden and I went back to give it another shot. I'm so damn glad I did, when I finished it, I knew I'd be looking forward to the sequel.

The Witcher 1 gave to me a feeling similar to Baldur's Gate 2, the feeling of being completely immersed in a game, adventure and as so often mentioned here the "atmosphere". It was actually one of the few times this ever happened, along with Baldur's Gate 2. And no Dragon Age ever accomplished that, though I was eagerly awaiting the first part when TW1 came out, seeing TW1 as a kind of minor filler - very good "filler", but still, considering the spiritual successor to BG2, which of course is a bigger type of RPG, as I haven't forgotten in the comparison, and in case you wondered.
Besides, I especially got the feeling the first time I entered the city, having been in the minor villages before (BG2 followed a similar structure about the revelation, introduction of the "big world", as it were) and began investigations with the Sherlock Holmes-type character at night (along with monsters in the sewers and everything else). How that character, who I found really cool and engaging, was dropped later, was actually one of the few things I resented or found disappointing: along with the swamp level. It seems some games, especially older games, have a level that tends to be a swamp-like environment, or a labyrinth of some kind, and that is the most tiresome and plodding experience.
Nonetheless, these were just parts or aspects, and like I said that feeling existed, a very rare accomplishment, and the game for the most part was thoroughly satisfying (overlooking the graphics nowadays).
