Romesh is too harsh. So some people have pillows with names. Okay. I have a name for my car. The Brits have a brand of vacuum cleaner named Henry, with a face on each one. And what about those weird Alexa things that you pretend are aware of you? To say nothing of books and movies and video games. People like to imagine that things have personalities. No harm in that, as long as by the time you're grown up, you know you're pretending. Actually, it's kind of an artistic thing to do -- because what makes the thing feel alive is the little bit of yourself you've invested in it. You love your teddy the same way an artist loves her painting, or an author loves her book.
You don't suppose Romesh is hiding something, do you?

I don't understand why that's such a bad thing, like, wow, let people enjoy their toys, if people find joy in maybe obscure things that don't harm anybody what's the deal? They make it sound like these people are crazy.

I find it beneficial for my shoulders and back to have something to hug while sleeping. It has to be the right size though. I have a stuffed elephant as old as I am and a lion from 20 yrs ago. I wash them both every time I wash my blankets once or twice a month.

I’m an American and I sleep with a teddy bear I got made a little over 10 years ago at the Teddy Bear Factory in San Francisco. That psychological experience of feeling calmed and smoothed by cuddling a soft toy as a child actually never goes away as you age. Helps with anxiety, loneliness, depression, insomnia, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I can personally vouch all of the above.
My bear Rosco is an upgrade from my exes who gave me PTSD.

It never ceases to amaze me that people don't clean things. First meat, then legs, now toys. When I was a kid cleaning my toys was a very normal thing. About once a month my mom would spray my toys with Lysol, and they definitely got a wipe down after I was sick. Most toys are plastic, it's not difficult. And stuffed animals I played with regularly went in the wash.

My mum is a SENDO (Special Needs Co-ordinator) at a secondary school and I’m Autistic myself, she found some research when she was looking around this stuff that Autistic adults are more likely to have and bring a cuddly toy almost everywhere they go as a comfort thing incase they get sensory overload and it might trigger a meltdown/ shutdown.
In my experience as an Autistic person, I’ve even brought key chains that are cuddle-able becuz I know what my triggers are on trains or any public transport and I don’t wanna get caught out and have to endure a terribly embarrassing meltdown/ shutdown of which I can’t control and is triggered by sensory processing.
As a cuddly toy person well I have them all around the edges of my bed, on my sofa bed, on my bed’s header and all over my pillows > I have a lot and the one I got as a baby I keep at the header becuz it somehow makes me feel safe.

    • B Moore

James Cooper nah these studies are usually not a good representation of the population you have to look at how many people they gathered and the diversity among the candidates. So many studies come out lately that have no scientific backing and are proven wrong or calculated incorrectly but the news still displays them like fact. Trust look into these sometimes the group is as small as 50 people that is not a good enough size sample to make such a big claim
