Why don't blacks listen to country music? Because when they hear about a hoe down, they think a sista has been shot..

First time hearing her was at the Grammy's and I wish I could say she was good, but she wasn't. At least not the caliber of her peers. Her voice is weak. Perhaps in the studio they can assist that, but live was not at all well done. Maybe an off night?

She was definitely nervous. I saw her live just a couple weeks ago, and her voice (when she's comfortable and not at the GRAMMYS lol) Is truly impeccable. Her album is amazing but she sounds even better in person. I can't say enough good things about this girl, I wasn't even that much of a fan before I saw her perform but I've been completely mesmerized since. If you have the time, standouts from her album are 'Mother', 'Happy & Sad', ''Oh What a World' and 'Slow Burn'. This album has such a raw honesty to it, and really I could go on and on about the symbolism and how she dances between elation and melancholy... Anyways! I swear this is not a sponsored review or anything, I'm just a girl who loves some Kacey Musgraves

Alisha Basso I’m almost sure you won’t regret it. And even if it ends up not being your cup of tea, thanks for
      being so open minded.

+Blah Blah I will concede your points and check her out on iTunes. I can't imagine the Grammys being so remiss in their judgement as to award someone with mediocre skill. If it really was nerves, she will probably grow out of that in time I would hope. I understand your defense that it was the Grammys and many stars have flubbed it during such daunting lives. I just remember sitting there and thinking the school musical I had just recently sat through sounded better and that was not saying anything good. I also judged it against the other performances and could not understand why she was asked to perform. Second chances are always best, so let's hope I have something new for my playlist.

Alisha Basso It was an off night. She was most likely very nervous, I mean it’s the Grammys and I’m pretty sure she knew she was giving some people their first impressions of her. But you should totally check out her album, the country label is not correct at all. I pretty much despise that whole genre, but Golden Hour was a special moment. She has a lovely voice and songwriting talent, and that album was very calming, happy, sad, and just gorgeous.

+MemeCollege - That's cool that you listened to it and people naturally will like things in varying degrees. As far as looking at last year, it seems to me that the two albums that stood out as far as consensus for most acclaimed of the year were Kacey's and Janelle's. If you find yourself having the time, I encourage maybe another repeated listen or two though, because hey - you never know if a few grow on you :) For entertainment, if anyone is multitasking, it can be fun to watch this TheXvidr's reaction video of her listening to the album not knowing who Kacey Musgraves was: thexvid.com/video/8tJaKiZySEs/video.html

I just wonder how many people actually bothered to listen to Golden Hour first. The nominees were out for two months so people can now feel prompted to listen since the award show has now taken place. It just appears to me people are jumping on the country artist without giving them a chance.

1LJ84 Hip hop has been the number genre for two years going on three. The academy hasn’t giving to album of the year to a black artist since 2007 it’s 2019. Oh but to white people it’s not about color it’s about the art? So what about all the critically albums that haven’t won since 2008? It was a lot of them. To pimp a butterfly by Kendrick Lamar which rollingstone and billboard named it the best album of 2015 and it lost by throwback oops I did it again Taylor Swift. When Beyoncé released lemonade an emotional charged album about infidelity, racism in America and black empowerment it lost to Adele which was just a really bland boring album with no message. This happens every year the Grammys never want to give awards to black artist who make conscious music but award to white artist who are privilege and who don’t have a struggle because their ancestor were slaves and don’t have to worry about being shot by police officers or called the police on for doing ordinary daily task. Kasey album didn’t have a message it wasn’t a topic of conversation it wasn’t a movement. Thank u, next

@teshawn johnson, Im guessing you did not even listen to the album. She is extremely supportive of minority groups and pushing the discussion in the right direction. The fact that you cannot get passed her skin color, is making YOU the racist. MLK said to not judge someone by the color of their skin but by content of character, which she carries plenty. Do yourself a favor and actually listen to her album and maybe her love will rub off.

+DadsNewWife Speak for yourself. Bruno Mars writes his own songs, and is a multi-instrumentalist - a true musician. Beyonce is a trained monkey.

Nah, no Underwood, Or anyone in that league. I thought she choked, flat and highly overrated.

    • Sean Mann
Sean Mann 2 months ago +1

Yeah....right as far auto tune. I'm not going to waste time with the cynicism and hating since you weren't even in the studio and have no proof of that. Different strokes for different folks as not everyone needs to sing vocal acrobatics to bring emotion to a tune. Nobody choked next to Miley and different women with different vocal styles can join a stage together and they can have a good time without people turning it into some negative made-up competition. That's actually part of why Golden Hour was such an acclaimed album - Kacey writes songs that work around her voice and don't have to focus on acrobatics. Again, different strokes for different folks. I enjoy listen to belting and acrobatics sometimes too. If you want to listen to the belters - go all for it and enjoy yourself. At the end of the day, with a lack of support from country radio - if this album wasn't great and she wasn't talented she wouldn't have the Album of the Year Grammy. I just think it's different strokes for different folks - she's not everyone's cup of tea.

Carrie Underwood might have the bigger voice, but Carrie has yet to use her voice as artistically as Kacey did in Golden Hour. People need to listen to the album.
