Baby accidentally given to wrong couple reunited with real parents - BBC News

  • Published on Jun 1, 2016
  • A couple who were given the wrong baby by a hospital in El Salvador a year ago, have finally been allowed to travel home with the correct child. Rich Cushworth - who is British - and his wife, Mercedes - were only given a birth certificate for their son Moses a few days ago. They landed back home in Dallas, Texas this week where they have been speaking exclusively to our correspondent Matthew Price.

She's better at telling stories than people on the news usually are.

The interviewer in this is such a great listener. He does not probe with unnecessary questions but gives the parents the space to tell their story. Some time that can be so healing. Someone holding space for you to tell your story without interruptions.

As a nurse - AS SOON - as a patient tells me something is 'off' I double & triple check... I have NEVER regretted the 'second guess' NEVER...

I’m so glad that they both were switched with good parents. Imagine your baby being with parents who were neglectful and abusive.

I wish the two families would stay in touch and let each other be a part of the children's lives. Imagine having two sets of parents who love you as their own.

It seems like someone knew they fucked up and just continued burrying themselves in the hole they made. I really wish I got to hear the other families side tho

Those doctors gaslit her. If a mom says "this isn't my baby" a doctor's FIRST reaction should be to order a dna test, not try and convince her she is wrong.

I’m proud of her for standing up and following her gut and so disappointed that people around her wouldn’t listen.

I feel all babies should have a DNA test done when they leave hospital to avoid a huge mistake like this.

I'm not the 'suing' type but in this case, its justified.

The way her husband listened to her looking at her eyes and believing her is so much amazing...that's the love and trust between them....

The father’s love and concern for his wife when she was crying, was so evident on his face. It was so endearing to see how he hurt when he could see his wife was hurting. I wish all women could have husbands who were so in tune with their wife’s emotions.

There’s something so pure about the mother’s energy. Just loving and radiating good energy.

This happened to my brother. He was switched with another baby. Good thing my older sister noticed the birth mark on my brother's armpit and said that it's not the same baby.

It's amazing that in the animal kingdom a mother will recognize their baby by just their smell..just goes to show how strong a motherly instinct really is..

This must've been so traumatic for everyone involved, especially those babies. I hope they get peace.

The fact that her first thought wasn’t her biological baby, but this baby that she has been raising and falling in love with... that’s a real mother right there. Mourning a baby that wasn’t hers ☹️

This actually happened to my mom. Thankfully they believed her and I went home with my actually mom. It's crazy to think how many times this may have happened.
