  • Analyst Pelham and Smithers say the PS5 will cost $400 when it's released in 2020 however I don't think that's possible and I'll tell you why. Let's discuss the price of the Playstation 5.

I like Microsoft systems i just dont like how Microsoft likes to add bad teck to there counsel's and the burn up alitte over a year like the 360s. Smart people turned and got a PS3 back then but there were alot of stupid people that bought a second system. So Microsoft dont take losses in there systems they just get people to buy two of them. Microsoft may try to do that again knowing theres dumb people out there and will buy two systems, and this very well may be the last generation of video game consoles.

I agree to much tech for $400. But with Sony making there own SSD and GPU for ray tracing they can make tjem faster, more reliable and cheaper. So it may possibly be released at $400 but in all reality it most likely will be $500.

We don’t want games to look like movies..ray tracing, fancy named chips what a load of 💩..It’s better gameplay we want which is lacking in 90% of games now. Remakes, indie garbage, clones, thanks I’ll stick to my PRO for another 3 years..👍

I said this months ago a £4000 pc can't run 8K well enough with two 1.4 display ports so how is a $400 ps5 going to ? 500 is the bare minimum the likely answer is $750 about £600 and that is cheap that is from the pov of someone who played ps first then pc and built his own first PC. And we haven't discussed ps plus subscriptions, the cost of games which will be more because more graphical power = more data = more disc space = more money to make. And the cost of an 8k tv? Thousands for one silly feature.

The PS5 will be at most 450 dollars. Why, because PlayStation was NEVER a high-end brand! The only reason people were willing to pay 500+ dollars for an Xbox one X, is because Xbox is a high-end brand; and it is expected of Xbox.

The odds of it being $400 are pretty low. I figure it will be at least $450 for the stripped down entry level model with the more featured versions being between $500 and $600 respectively.

What you're not taking into account is the fact that Sony will be purchasing a hundred million of these graphics cards Over a four-year period. They are going to get these products at a price you cannot fathom. I am fine with paying five or six hundred for a console if it has the power some people are talking. I think they should take the Xbox route and do a base model and a souped-up model.

    What else would Cerney say?
"The PS5 is going to be a price that will upset some gamers. While others will think its fairly reasonable."
Since the playstation was $600. People have started buying or have considered buying cell phones. Nearly every other year or more. Devices that are $600 or even much more. Not that people are happy about it. But it has started to calm people. When they have to think about having to spend $400 to $500 bucks on a piece of tech. Even more so, since they hopefully will only pay that price once. Over the better part of a decade. Add in the Xbox One X being $499. It just seems that considering all things. Theres is just to much new tech in the upcoming PS5. For it not to also usher in a new generation price of $499. Lets just all hope. Sonys new pricing targets dont follow suit with all future Playstations. Lol. It would not be good. If starting with PS5, the price Sony puts on it. Has to match the version it is. Playstation 7 being $700 and Playstation 14 being $1400. Would be very, very bad ideas for Sony. Hahaha

Im sure ps5 will have ray-tracing but only in their exclusives linear-games. High end Pc's already struggle alot with this. Most likely the ray-tracing thing hardware in the ps5 will aim at the sound instead as someone said?

Any proof that they have ever taken a $100 hit on any console release? Do people really just believe that?

    • 0ooTheMAXXoo0
      0ooTheMAXXoo0 7 months ago

I don't know if it was that big of a hit but traditionally Nintendo was the only console maker that tried to make profits off of the console hardware and games while the other console makers aimed to sell lots of consoles as cheaply as possible and make money off of the software and accessories. Every piece of software and hardware accessory for a console pays a licensing fee to the console maker. Also, the console that sells the best gets the most developer support so it is important to get he hardware out to as many people as possible.

I'm betting it will cost $499. We will most likely have to buy an external hard drive to store games unless Sony is going to use a online storage system. Game that get better are also getting bigger in hard drive hogging. I have 30 games and I have passed 1tb. I use a 4tb external to store my games.

Which is just another way of saying "it's expensive, but it will be worth it"
We all know it will start from $499.

Gamers are older and richer plus inflation, 600 USD price for fifteen years ago is like 1000 USD today.
I bet even with 600 or 700 USD launch price consoles will be sold like candies.
They can drop price later as always.

    1) The price alienates consumers..tell me again, how did the WiiU fare?
2)They will relase the first console of their gen and they can be improve on by Microsoft,Nintendo does its own things so people will buy Nintendo anyway.
3)They had been huge assholes as of late, increasing the price of subscription because they know their consumers are weak to say "No!, I wont pay to play online", also they worsened their "free" (included in payment) games
4)They still dont allow crossplay and try to one up competition with exclusives rather than being more consumer friendly or giving to its comunity, they had been and will always be losers who copy the competition, improve a little and then ask more money because they feel entitled, I understood that after the PS4 which I wont ever buy, my history with Sony ended in PS3

I'm going to wait a few years to get the next generation consoles I think. Let them drop in price a bit. I regret buying the PS4 and Xbox One at launch in 2013. Until like 2016 there were hardly any games at all that you couldn't still play on the PS3 and Xbox 360. There were a handful like inFAMOUS Second Son. Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Sunset Overdrive. Halo 5, The Witcher 3, and Assassin's Creed Syndicate but it wouldn't have killed me to wait until 2016 to play. I wish I would have gotten the consoles in like fall 2015 or 2016, got all of those games at $20 a pop, and had an early backlog for my new consoles. It would have worked out better than wasting my time on crap like Contrast and Ryse: Son of Rome early in the console's life just to have something to play on them. Not doing that again.

Metal Gear Solid V, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age Inquisition, Alien Isolation, The Evil Within, Wolfenstein. and most other things that came out in those first two years of the console's life were also on the older consoles. It's probably going to be the same for PS5 and Xbox "Two". Beyond Good and Evil 2, Halo Infinite, The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding. Crystal Dynamic's Avengers, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Cyberpunk 2077, Rocksteady's next game, and things like that will be cross-generation. And, of course, basically everything EA, Ubisoft, and Activision put out.

Things that we're expecting super early in these next gen console's lifespan, like Spider-Man 2, Horizon 2, and whatever Microsoft's newly acquired devs are working on, probably won't even come out until like 2022 or 2023. It will be new hardware so I expect tons of delays for games that are announced early. They'll probably fall back on indies again until their AAA teams can finally get things out.
