Microsofts statement. With three billion people actively playing games today and fueled by a new generation steeped in the joys of interactive entertainment, gaming is now the largest and fastest-growing form of entertainment. Today, Microsoft Corp. announced plans to acquire Activision Blizzard Inc., a leader in game development and interactive entertainment content publisher. This acquisition will accelerate the growth in Microsoft’s gaming business across mobile, PC, console and cloud and will provide building blocks for the metaverse.
When the transaction closes, Microsoft will become the world’s third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony. The planned acquisition includes iconic franchises from the Activision, Blizzard and King studios like “Warcraft,” “Diablo,” “Overwatch,” “Call of Duty” and “Candy Crush,” in addition to global eSports activities through Major League Gaming. The company has studios around the word with nearly 10,000 employees.
“Gaming is the most dynamic and exciting category in entertainment across all platforms today and will play a key role in the development of metaverse platforms,” said Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO, Microsoft. “We’re investing deeply in world-class content, community and the cloud to usher in a new era of gaming that puts players and creators first and makes gaming safe, inclusive and accessible to all.”

It’s crazy I bought a PS5 in fear of missing out on gaming like I did by not owning a PS4. I’m more than happy with my Xbox series X. Gamepass has changed the gaming industry , my PS5 has been collecting dust for the past 3 months.

    • Cynthia Andoh
      Cynthia Andoh 4 months ago

@Dan S but that's the whole point of a service. And nobody goes on Netflix to watch some hit show and that is expecting to own it. You're just doing it to watch it while it's there.
Literally the exact same philosophy here. If you own any kind of subscription service, it's the same thing but just with games.
But I was talking from a value proposition standpoint since that's what you were saying. Obviously you should always buy a game outright if that's literally the only thing you want.
But if you plan on playing some of the games on Game Pass that are there, and obviously more will come, then that's why you buy game pass. Not just a play one game. A subscription service is use or go through a plethora of content. Obviously if you just want to experience one thing, just buy it out right.

    • Dan S
      Dan S 4 months ago

@Cynthia Andoh but you are wrong still, if you purchased the three games you own them, you don't own the games in the service.

    • Cynthia Andoh

@Dan S well that's obvious. But if you use Xbox live gold or play at the very least three games that are on Game Pass, paying $120 or 180 a year is worth it.

I actually really like this. Some of the best new games that have come out recently have been smaller studios. This is going to force Sony to really pump money into these smaller studios instead of relying on ip’s.
I’m starting to think that Microsoft is making these big acquisitions, not for the win but just to try and stay competitive. Am I wrong? Probably but it doesn’t change the fact that I’m excited to see how Sony steps up

@Nitsua Nomrah lol. Love that team spirit. This is big no doubt but I still want ratchet, Last of us, god of war etc. Can't play on Xbox but most likely on PC at some point. Sony ain't like you sitting there ready to throw in the towel. Sony is way more than you give them credit for. This doom and gloom is xbots spilling their guts thinking somehow in the last 12 hours Sony decided to leave. That is funny. Sony has studios, games, tv, movies. Some of the best games out there. Those don't all of a sudden go away. Sheesh. Give me games I like I buy. MS still has none that I need. Want maybe but, meh, I'll get buy just fine. PS5 and PC for the win as usual

Sure people like me will still buy it here and there but compared to the games we have today I just don’t see it.

Gamepass is 🔥. Loving it. I would buy 2 or 3 games a year so £180. 12 month games pass for £120 and I get everything else on the side. Well done Microsoft 👏

    • Imraan Omar
      Imraan Omar 4 months ago

@William McEntee Also if gamepass is $5 per sub, thats $125MIL per month.
Thats enough funding for a God of War each month, in 6 months MS would have enough revenue to fund
      - god of war
      - ghost of tsushima
      - Last of us 2
      - Spiderman
      - Horizon Zero Dawn
now imagine thats spread over 4 years of the development cycle instead of 6 months dedicated to 1 game each.
You see the money involved in gamepass now, of course they paying other companies to get their games too but if they spend 10mil per month on 5 AAA games they have another 70mil to make up the rest of the months costs and get profit from it

    • Imraan Omar
      Imraan Omar 4 months ago

@William McEntee No he didnt say it wasnt profitable
He said its sustainable at the current model
also you have the $15 tier, so you have someone on $1 you can have someone on $15 and then you have some on $10. How much we dont know, you could say most are on the $1 you could also most is on the $15 that covers xbox gold cost too.
So I just took the middle number of $10 on average because we dont know any better

    • Imraan Omar
      Imraan Omar 4 months ago

@Randy Kayfish no, assuming the 25mil subs pay 10 on average thats $250 mil PER MONTH.
MS can fund 2 AAA games PER MONTH, not over the 3-4 years it takes to make the game, in a month they can do it.
MS can give 2.7mil per month to 9 AAA studios and over 3 years thats 100mil for development for each studio. Its easy to see how the devs can make money when MS is paying for development

I am officially mind blown I switched to PlayStation when the ps5 launched and I gotta say that at this point Sony is gonna have to save up and buy someone like take 2 if they want to compete and tbh I can’t see them being able to do that financially for at least 3 more years

Sony only has $16b cash on hand. T2 just bought Zynga for $12b. Sony would need to somehow find probably around $40b minimum to buy T2 and I doubt Sony wants to spends its entire cash reserve 2.5 x over on 1 publisher. With how much devs have been selling for recently, Sony can not buy a large dev or publisher. That ship has sailed.

@keiuchiha By the way isn’t it releasing titles on your own operating system called “exclusive” and no where which microsoft is doing now. How funny you are defending the same kind of concept you call garbage eventhough you like it now. Shows what kind of fan you really are lol

    • Gamer For Life
Gamer For Life 4 months ago

@keiuchiha What? I said i play pc lol which means i have a better deal than you overall. Gamepass has raised in prices before and then came back due to backlash eventhough phill said that it would never or don’t you remember? Secondly try to have a grown up understandable conversation because this is just funny to read… Thirdly i amnot just waiting for god of war which was released in pc and dominated in sales if you don’t read the news which proves quality. I am waiting for Horizon and Elden ring then after that God of war and Spiderman and even Wolverine. I could even say other titles that are very worth waiting but you just talk as if gamepass has the best of the best…. Gamepass is a great deal now but it will increase in price and mark my words because when it does if i see you i will make fun of you remember that. You didn’t remark about anything i said and just began spouting none sense about something i didn’t say. Then you said cry fanboy lol. Which either indicates you are a blind fanboy trying to get a nerve out of ps fans in which you are greatly mistaken i have a more powerful than xbox and even now after what microsoft is doing, xbox is going to die and pc is going to be the way to go as i will enjoy both products of ps and xbox. Now read with a grown mind and respond respectfully or don’t and be a miserable xbox fanboy without any reason. You aren’t even working for them lol. You remind me of a blind child fan who thinks they are just right without even reading. Have a good day.

@Gamer For Life Thank you, for proving me point, you said " you said the future will lay in a system called MICROSOFT WINDOWS", you PS don't realize that Microsoft already got your money, you think eventually Gamepass prices gonna raise up, but you don't gonna buy everything in Steam, do you?, knowing that Gamepass has around of 5000 games day 1, in contrast with Garbage " exclusives" that take one or 2 year on being released, plus to that Phil Spencer said that Gamepass prices gonna be the same for a long time, so go wait for God of War Ragnarok until 2025, I'm gonna still playing all this games in my Gamepass, suck it up fanboy

    • Gamer For Life
Gamer For Life 4 months ago

@Imraan Omar Lol that’s not proving your point at all because there is a big difference. Insomniac made alot of ps exclusives when it was made which was obvious why they would agree for sony to buy them. However Activision never made anything that exclusive for xbox and relationship wasn’t good to begin with which means they just bought for no reason than to just make them be a part of gamepass which in my opinion will be overpriced at one point like they wanted to do before and to just compete because they can’t make impactful games since 2013…

    • Imraan Omar
      Imraan Omar 4 months ago

@Gamer For Life i'm just saying Sony buys up 3rd party studios all the time.

Thanks for continuous great videos, I feel those who would allow the market dynamism to determine when to trade or not are either new in this space in general or probably just naïve, the sphere have seen far worse times than this, enlightened traders continue to make good use of the dip and pump even acquiring more equities towards trading sessions, I'd say that more emphasis should be put into tradng, since it is way profitable than hodling. Trading went smooth for me as I was able to raise over 11.4 BTC when I started at .5 BTC in just few weeks of implementing trades with signals and insights from Tim Paul.. I would advise you all to trade your asset rather than hodl for a future you aren't sure about yet.

I have seen plenty if these acquisition messages in a different industry. Usually the press release outlines the leadership of the new, combined structure. It is my opinion that since Bobby Kotick is not named as part of the structure especially knowing his current leadership position and the controversy, he will not be part of the operations going forward after the deal closes. If he was going to be part of it, his name and new job role would have been listed in the press release.

Microsoft can more than afford this deal. The publish Windows, Office, and their Azure platform powers modern gaming. The 90ts still has house techno and such. after 2000 justin beiber -_-. just saying. Sony had some killer games and names in the 90ts. but all kinda forgotten. they came out strong. klonoa, tombi 1 and 2, spyro wich now is more of an aftertought, medi evil or something, tekken 3,twisted metal, crash. ps2 had it's moments. @arjan snijder I've read several stories about what happened, and plenty has been documented. It's not just an opinion from an upset woman. I can tell you haven't read a thing about it but the headlines, and for some reason, you want to support the abusers instead of the victims. It's really naive to think the "justice system will take care of it, and I can tell by your wording that you are unsympathetic towards abuse victims. There wouldn't be a lawsuit from the state of California if there wasn't an investigation beforehand. Where is your dignity?

      arjan snijder 4 months ago

@GameBent and you do??. Allot of times theres more talk then what actually happend. And if it really happend the justice system will take care of it . Allot of times there the talk from the outsiders when nothing has actually happend inside. Allot of times this happens. Yeah well he looked at me with those eyes and they kinda consider it rape and are off to work the next day. Who are they kidding then??. If it really happens or tends to happen, call the police right. Don't sit on it for eight years. And you find it strange people doubting the ''so called'' victims. Has there been anyone in court telling you peronally these women where groped??, someone at activision??. exactely. just rumors. And you can't fire for just rumors. If it weren't a rumor shame on them. shame on both. How can you work when some kind of epstein is waiting at your desk. i Really do not understand that kinda crap. Wheres your dignity.

@GameBent I heard about that. I read the articles about the whole story. To me it sounded like the office culture was heavily influenced by alcohol. And I'm sure both the men and the women were involved. And things like this happen when you have a bunch alcoholic men and women in the workplace. It's not as a simple as "frat boys" harassing women. And its lazy to just blame the CEO or other higher-ups. Everyone is responsible that works there. So I don't think it's fair to come at me about it.

This moment in time is exactly what they envisioned from the start, almost 25 years ago.

@Gamer For Life yeah I'm worried about this as well. The thing that I don't see ppl connectiing the dots on is that while game pass may seem consumer friendly now. If they get major control of the industry. They can trample out competitors and charge what they want. Idk if itll get that 3xtreme but still, these companies are only concerned with growth each year

    • Gamer For Life
Gamer For Life 4 months ago +1

@Curtis Young What makes me afraid is that when it becomes just 3 companies facing eachother. It will make consumers be torn apart as not everyone can get 2 or 3 consoles at the same time. But what i see is that alot will turn to pc as it will be a cheaper thing overall as future wise which could destroy consoles. The only companies left now that are recognisable being Square Enix, Ubisoft, Bandai Namaco, From Software, Sega and EA. If these are bought then the future is 100% bad because they won’t care about quality and just care about cloud gaming. Nintendo and Sony care about quality more than anyone. Microsoft never gave a quality type of game that is memorable since 2013 because now they just care about cloud. Some say consumer friendly but they are now being the complete opposite as it forces people to go for gamepass which will at one point be too expensive to care about

    • Curtis Young

Remember most of the years of the Xbox existence Microsoft always saw it as a business that had a lot of overhead . Microsoft is a software company at heart and when Office 360 subscription service provided revenue that far exceeded expectations Game Pass was created for the Xbox side. Microsoft knows that game pass offers continual revenue and to keep it popular and to make gamers keep the subscriptions active they have to have the most popular Ip’s like Call of Duty which is a must have for most casual gamers. Game pass makes the Xbox brand more profitable which is why Microsoft is investing so much money than before in its Xbox gaming division.

Don't be surprised if Microsoft buys another company before the end of the year. Microsoft as a whole company is worth $2 trillion. Activision was the biggest company available with a net worth of $71 billion. Take 2 is worth $17 billion. EA is worth $7 billion, and Ubisoft is worth $6.5 billion. On one hand, I think that Microsoft will do wonders for the situation at Blizzard. Especially regarding the deeply entrenched culture there. So I’m tempted to think this is a good thing. On the other hand, however, the continued monopolisation of the industry is deeply troubling to me. How far will this go? When will MS be satisfied? After they’ve muscled Sony and Nintendo out of the industry with sheer buying power? Between this and NFTs I think the industry is ultimately taking a turn for the worse. Competition breeds quality, hence why the Series X was handled so much better than the One. Microsoft doesn’t seem eager to compete so much as they wish to dominate. And with their money, how could Sony and Nintendo ever hope to retaliate?

    • Y3L10WFLASH
      Y3L10WFLASH 4 months ago

They'll be satisfied when their bases are covered
Remember yes it's Microsoft money/ approval to buy but it's Xbox picking out & working out who to buy
And in an article interview they said Phil was excited when talking about DORMANT FRANCHISES of A-B
He's leader of Xbox yes but he's a Gamer at heart so they will stop getting big publishers when they're good in all major bases
We just need Sony to make lots of money to get publishers as well from various incomes:
      •Gamepass Equivalent
•Multiplayer & Singleplayer Games (also day one) w/ old games on Gamepass equivalent too
•Games on PC/ Mobile Ports & Day Ones w/ Console (Especially kicking ass on Mobile)
•Sony acquiring eventually overtime more and more & bigger and bigger publishers
I'd rather have Sony get Square Enix, Capcom, Konami, Krafton Inc, & later Take-Two, Ubisoft, & Embracer Group
And Xbox get EA, Paradox Interactive, Sega, Bethesda, Activision-Blizzard, Bandai Namco, Koei Tecmo, & Pearl Abyss
Those, companies we know, rather than Tencent, Facebook, Amazon, or anyone else like them getting their hands on em and not knowing what their fates will be or if another situation happens like when Blizzard was gutted back then alot
(Plus Facebook & another unknown company were actually interested in getting Activision-Blizzard until Microsoft paid 68.7 Billion from some reports)

If this is true / it’s going to get very interesting / Wow 70 billion that’s a lot of money spending for that company / here we go again / i wonder 🤔 what’ Sony going to do to counter this / maybe buy squaresoft / i think Sony & squaresoft would make a great team up /

@xX-Delirium-Xx , I admire your optimistic attitude. I really do. Sometimes I need in my life to have this type of "hope for the best" mentality no matter how ludicrous it may sound. God bless your heart.

@Pluto Is a planet sony has bought game companies before dude its not impossible sure they could not afford as big of a company as activision blizard as they are a colection of game studios but a company like Konami they could. just this year sony has bought housemarque, bluepoint, nixxes software, firesprite, fabrik games andthe Evo fighting game tournament so they got plenty enogh money to buy game companies

As an Xbox/PC player I really hope this doesn't lead to exclusives for these platforms, exclusives are always lame. Everyone should be able to play any game they want on any platform.

    • KnucklesWTD
      KnucklesWTD 4 months ago

No they aren’t. The best eras of gaming had exclusives and spurned competition. Crash bandicoot would’ve probably never existed without Mario being competition for example
All platforms should have their own games and identity, that is gaming at its best.

Phil said once the deal goes through and finalized that Activision/Blizzard will report to him as the boss.

Reviving bleeding edge through overwatch would be a no brainer imo the characters were unique enough and overwatch would get new content

I can't see no better future to activision blizzard, with microsoft finally they can make games thinking in the players and not in the money.
