Hey Razorfist, just an FYI to when you were mentioning who started metal between Motörhead and Black Sabbath.
In the Lemmy documentary at the 58 minute mark Ozzy gives it to Lemmy as the originator of metal

Nice job Razor, probably my favourite of the Metal Mythos so far - but the idea of Dio, Ozzy and Badlands episodes would be fantastic! I agree on the subject of Tony Martin, phenomenal vocalist and he never got his due. Really enjoyed this one dude, thank you :)

Working class guys that came from nothing that rose from the ashes literally. These guys defiantly left there mark on music. All the albums with Ozzy flawless in my opinion. Albums with The late great Ronnie James Dio Flawless in my opinion. I even love Born Again. Everything After Seventh Star kind of downhill but still has good stuff. In my opinion.

I love every incarnation of this band, but having been raised by Ozzy-only fascists, what I can say is that it doesn't matter if Dio is better or if Hughes does Ozzy better than Ozzy; People love Ozzy first, yes, cuz he's their memory of the band and nostalgia rules, but second, for the same reason they love any crude, unpolished blues. Ozzy's lack of genuine skill *is his strength*.
Their future incarnations were often significantly better music, but none of it was as human, personal, or emotionally relatable.

War Pigs was the song that got me into heavy metal at all. Before that, the heaviest stuff I listened to was AC/DC. Paranoid is a good track, but I don't love it. That album as a whole is a damned masterpiece

Quick confession: before I watched this Mythos, I didn't know Black Sabbath, aside from their eponymous track and some of the bigger hits from "Paranoid." At all. Period. Now, however, I've gone over pretty much all of their career, aside from "Cross Purposes," "Forbidden" and the Iommi/Hughes stuff, which I just can't get my hands on (thank you very much "Management") and holy hell, how have I missed out on this?
I've been into Doom metal for a few years now, and the blues for even longer, and listening to the glorious mix of the two in this band's discography is pure bliss to me.

Dio did have a better technical singing voice and Ozzy lost it over a decade ago (at least) but for ANYBODY to discount pre-Dio Sabbath, can suck 10 bags of dicks. I would never discount Dio's talents, I'm just not a fan. I can listen to Dio lead Sabbath, but to me Black Sabbath isn't Black Sabbath without Ozzy, but Ozzy is Ozzy without Sabbath. Did he say 7th Star is his fave Sabbath album? Hahahahahahaha!

  • Peter Little

Nobody in this universe is ever going to convince me that Tony Iomi is better than Jimmy Page, or that Geezer Butler is better than JPJ, or that Bill Ward is better than John Bonham. And Ozzy v Robert Plant ??? Don't get me started on that. Communication Breakdown was the first ever metal song and Black Sabbath don't come close.
