Honestly at this point I feel like tech companies are knowingly releasing dated shit piled high with issues, both large and small. Just so they can release a better version later on in hopes of making ALL THA MONIEZZ. You see this a lot in the gun industry, for those of you who can relate. *cough cough* *Glock*

    • Braden
      Braden 15 days ago

@Alpay Take the Glock 43x for example; they release a single stack subcompact pistol (Glock 43). Well one bleh about it was that you needed a base plate so that you could get a full grip (grip was short). So they release the 43x with a full length grip. However it's made horribly from top to bottom...even though they had a perfect functioning 43. So we assume they created the 43x first, then put out the 43 so that people would want a full grip one, and the cycle continues.

If they sold this as just a monitor, I'd probably buy it. Wacom are pretty much unchallenged as the "professional grade" tablets, which is why they are so expensive, if the quite literal definition of a monopoly, Microsoft, stood up, Wacom would probably crap themselves.

LOL! Meanwhile Apple is asking $6000 for a PC that only has an 32GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. That doesn't even include a monitor. For that, you need to chip in another $5000 which is more than the entire Surface Studio 2. You could buy two Surface Studio 2s for the price of one Mac Pro base model, and still have almost $3000 left over.
I'd agree the Surface Studio 2 needs to be more powerful, and perhaps separate the monitor and the PC part. Having said that, it's not near the ripoff the Mac Pro is.

    • Azeria
      Azeria Month ago +1

“For that you need to chip in another $5000” no you don’t, you could hook up literally any monitor to it, from a £20 from a recycling centre to a £100,000 video wall.

  • Toxically Masculine

for about the same price you can get an imac pro that... doesn't have a touchscreen at all

    • Toxically Masculine
      Toxically Masculine Month ago +1

it's actually a really good price if you compare it to a computer with similar specs plus a wacom monitor/tablet of around the same size. it's definitely not as good a tablet in terms of accuracy or pressure sensitivity, but it's a better monitor than anything wacom has, and obviously it's integrated so that's nice. but yeah i'd agree that it's stupid that they don't sell the screen on its own. i don't get the point of desktops like this. why does the actual computer chassis need to be so small? it's on your DESK, and the screen already makes it too large and heavy to be called "portable." so if it's already spending most of its time on a desk, and it's already a hassle to transport it, why bother with the tiny chassis? i think i speak for the majority of media & computing professionals when i say i'd prefer to have a nice touch display like that, paired with a really powerful desktop, whatever the size. unfortunately the selection of standalone touch displays out there just aren't worth buying. there are some chinese ones on amazon at shockingly low prices but i'm naturally very skeptical of the quality, and many of the reviews support that assumption. so i just have to make do with a regular old tablet and a regular old display. there aren't any good touch monitors either (like for your fingers) which i find so bizarre considering almost all laptops past the $400 price point have touchscreens now, with the exception of macbooks. for a long time i've been considering trying to buy a replacement laptop touch display on ebay and put together a wooden chassis for it, but it needs a power supply and drivers and there's not a lot of information available about that stuff. i'm surprised nobody's done that though. just like i'm surprised there are so few reputable desktop touch displays available.

lol the problem with Microsoft trying to get into the professional market is just that: pros aren't as stupid when it comes to shopping, and DO value utilitarian functionality.
Only leeway is because there is so little competition/choice in the high end pro market, I imagine Microsoft is hoping, fair enough, to carve out a captive consumer base they can charge extortionate rates to, like Wacom, Red, Adobe, and the like do.

Microsoft is to worried about how it looks. They just need to make the base bigger so they can stuff more stuff in!! I honestly don't think the professionals who use this would mind that extra space if it meant they got a performance boost.
    And one more thing;
I know it is a touch screen and the difficulties it can make in the manufacturing process, but if they could fit an 8k screen in there? I bet every artist in the land would be interested in it.
As an engineer, it MUST be able to run very large 3D software. MUST!

I don't see how it would hurt Microsoft to provide it as an option.

@Random Person Or if you want a drawing tablet specifically, you CAN go for Wacom (the Cintiqs and Mobile Studio Pros), but they're ridiculously priced. Their competitors, like Huion and Gaomon(sp?), are really good and WAY cheaper!

    • Jody Bruchon
Jody Bruchon 23 days ago +1

@Random Person Buy a Wacom Intuos tablet. They are pressure-sensitive, angle-sensitive, and not tied to one computer. Almost all tablet touchscreens are non-drawing touchscreens; they handle touches and have gross pressure sensitivity, but they are unsuitable for drawing.

I'm surprised this so called 'tech influencer' is in his late 40s and still doesn't get not everyone wants/need the maxed out specs and the look of a tacky gaming PC. For example, most of designers only use Photoshop or Illustrator. 16GB RAM and a decent graphic card is more than enough to get any graphic job done. An i5 is more than enough to keep the machine powerful, quiet, cool and energy efficient. We don't need to swap out GPU as soon a new one comes out. We don't need to keep that tacky box on the desk ready to be unscrewed once a week or to be shown off in all his tacky fans and LEDs tackiness. That's the case of the Surface Pro. A design machine will probably serve for 5-7 years as is.

Checking at the almost halfway mark of 2019 for the Surface Studio 2, All I can say is that the graphic options can decided between a 1060 and 1070, you can get 1-2 TB of storage and a 16-32 GB processor, sounds good, but it still has that 7th gen i7

Maybe When they designed it, the 8th gen processor did not existed so you are alking without knowledge. Even if it is slow as you syi, the pen capability makes it better than a faste computer

idunno if microsoft has some sort of non-compete clause with wacom but honestly they can easily just compete them out of existence if they just stop doing this silly shit.

Like come on. Make a 24 inch surface monitor, price it at under 2k, I guarantee it'll be disruptive.
