It was incredibly boring. (This is just my opinion if you like it that is perfectly fine.)

I've just never liked the story of Black Panther. Honestly, I don't like most of the Marvel heroes, or DC. Typically I only like Batman and Iron Man. Thor and Superman get passes for being aliens, and there are of course individuals with superpowers that aren't stupidly acquired. Like Forge from the X-Men...I love that guy. His superpower is basically that he's able to create technology better than ANYONE else can. Love that.
But this notion that some stone age people in a backwater jungle have ANY chance of figuring out how to smelt at all, let alone an alien supermetal? No, just no. That goes so far past any reasonable suspension of disbelief that it enters into the territory of biblical stupidity. It was at least nice that they made up the bit about the flower being transformed by leeching microscopic amounts of the metal through the soil, and becoming an avenue for them to actually work with the material in some way. But, still stretching it way too far.
The movie was good, but it definitely wasn't great. With the story of BP, it could never be great. The story is just crap. The story would be crap no matter where it happened...ancient north america, ancient europe, ancient southeast asia, australia, south america...none of it matters (interesting side note, the spell-check flagged all of the uncapitalized continents, but NOT an uncapitalized "america"...very interesting). The idea of a bunch of stone age primitives finding a way to work such a material, and building an advanced society that everyone somehow overlooks for millennia, is way too tastelessly absurd even for comics. It doesn't matter what their "culture" or ethnicity is. It's a stupid concept, stupid on a biblical level.
Again, the movie was good, because the acting was decent, and the effects were mostly good, and the pacing and action were good. But it was hardly the amazing thing people make it out to be. It's generally the way with all "popular" movies. They're good, but never as good as the fans seem to want to believe.

I didn't really enjoy the movie because the lead actor was just so plain and boring I didn't feel for him at all, all his charisma went to the CA:CW, apparently. And the plot was generic and didn't add much to the experience. I do, however, admire BP for the message it sends and the issues it addresses. I also really liked the villain. Michael B. Jordan is a really good actor and I kinda rooted for him in some ways (not all the way because he's still a villain and is wrong).
So even if I don't like Black Panther, I'm still glad I watched it. I don't think it's a good movie but it's a huge step for the film industry.

  • FLYING DREAM PRODUCTIONS

Sad that a villain who tries so hard trying NOT to get along with the world is so revered. Its like everyone that felt empowered by this missed the point of the evil in that. Oh and they were jumping ship because everyone was fighting for food, water and air... not because they knew the slavery that awaited them.

So I stopped watching the marvel movies after the first Avengers but I now have seen most of them but anyway my friends asked me to go see black panther and I said no and they were all calling me racist and I said yeah that's why I haven't seen Thor the dark world, captain America the winter soldier, and both guardians of the the galaxy my one of my friends came out and she Lexi just isn't the biggest marvel fan but I saw black panther and loved and regretted not seeing it in theaters

This was perhaps THE BEST movie I've seen in Years. I'm glad you liked it, Ms. Chambers... plus I'm ALSO glad you brought Malcolm Ray into this review video to also speak about his thoughts and opinions.
I can definitely understand the meaning of Michael B. Jordan's character's message before dying. My mother (who was Black) took me with her to watch AMISTAD when it came out in theaters in 1996. If you think this movie hit your heart... go watch and review THAT movie with Malcolm Ray next.
In fact... get the Walker brothers to watch AMISTAD next... have the Nostalgia Critic do an episode on THAT shit. I want to see how Malcolm Ray feels about THAT idea.
I also think Ray should get his own Channel Awesome series as well.

I don't get the hype of this movie. It was very, very bland. It wasn't a fun superhero movie. So many things didn't make sense. I feel like people are adding "depth" to this movie where there is no depth. Killmonger, for example, was not this deep, complicated character. His motivations were simple. He goals were simple. And I fear that this movie will subtly distort history to the young people watching it.

Loved the movie but I give it a “b”. For me, the fact that wakandan tech functions more like magic than dr. Strangers magic does is a deal breaker. Scenes like Panther and Killmonger punching each other in invincible suits while falling 1000 feet and taking no damage from the fall are plot holes too big to ignore. Why punch a guy who can’t be hurt from a 1000 foot fall?

    • Mishe Robinson
      Mishe Robinson Year ago

I would think because Killmonger may never have been briefed on the suit. Also, why Panther not punch back to get out of Killmonger's grip? He must have remembered when he landed against that rock and he stayed down for just enough time for others to begin hitting him. Even in the middle of a fight, shouldn't he have jumped back to his feet while thinking of what to do next? I assumed had taken some damage.
That 1000 foot fall with no damage is ridiculous though. . .

Haven't seen it yet, but I was really looking forward to it. This review makes it seems like it's mostly praised because of representation of black people and women... I sure as shit hope not! I have no love for whiny movies, and I like the Black Panther story of how they're an overwhelmingly progressed nation that completely isolates itself for years and years and only slowly opens up to the idea of sharing some of all they have. That alone could be the basis for a great plot, so if it's just 'yai black people and women are awesome, look at us' I'm gonna be really dissapointed.

6.8/10: Pros-most action scenes were fun to watch and cool. Acting was overall really good. The one villain was funny. The actor who played black Panther was really good. Colors looked great. Gives many people a cool superhero to look up to and associate with which I find really cool.
Cons: Very preachy and not shuttle at all about it. Personally I was not a big fan of the main villain. Some CGI was pretty bad and blurry. Some humor was just not that good.
Overall it is a fun marvel movie.

I had a problem with one of the scenes:
when Killmaster takes one of the elite warriors hostage and then slits her throat in front of the other warriors...and theres no blood! like i know they wanted to make the movie friendly and thats why there was no blood effects but that was an immersion breaking moment there and it was just so unnecessary. we didn't even know who this character was and to break the immersion for a few seconds that didn't even register emotionally...why is that there!? it really should have been edited out.
other than that, i loved it.

It was an average film with cookie cutter characters, bland yet disneyfied special effects, a bunch of fun action scenes, and a cookie cutter ending. T'Chala has basically no internal struggle in this film. I never got the idea that he had any depth or forethought. This isn't to say the character doesn't, but this is another example of Marvel execs meddling with the film, forcing the plot that people won't pay attention to, and just dazzle them with fight scenes. I'm glad he got his own movie, but this is about as bland and poorly thought through as the Incredible Hulk 2008.

I loved this movie. Black Panther has the coolest superhero outfit. I wasn't a big fan of the kinetic energy thing though. I also think it would have been cool if they gave him short swords.
