Sophisticated, modern, and practical. Well done, Toyota!
I hope the next 4Runner follows suit, complete with Sequoia and Land Cruiser 300 series elements in its design.

This Sequoia uses the Tundra platform, so looks similar because they share parts.. The 4Runner is a different mid-sized platform, so will have a distinct look.. It uses the same chassis as the Lexus GX and eastern sold Land Cruiser Prado, but is made to look distinct for the North American market, so I have a hunch the 6th generation 4Runner will look great!

*Cargo room may be smaller their saying becasue of the solid rear axle vs 2nd gen rear independent.* Also I think they rear siding window may be gone. Something the 1st and 2nd gen had.

My uncle had a new 2004 Sequoia lasted him until 2018 when he passed, he was a mechanic and barely worked on his vehicle aside for basic tune-ups, suspension, steering, and handling parts, only major thing I remember him doing was timing belt kit, other belts, water pump and gaskets just for precautionary measures even though there was no leaks or failures... 100% bulletproof, with nearly 2 decades under the belt this one must be refined like a luxury yacht

@ToxicCookie Oh okay I did not hear any of them state that the 2-3 videos I watch said it was a solid rear axel and that’s why the 3rd row was elevated. That’s even better if you at least get the option for Air suspension, but independent suspensions is not the same as having air suspension. I was more concerned with the lack of head room due to having the to make from for the solid rear axel.

    • ToxicCookie

Really like it overall. Although a bit disappointed in the space behind the third row. Especially with the not flat floor either due to the solid rear axle. Was hoping space would be closer to what is in the Tahoe/Yukon. Probably not a deal breaker but a bit of a miss for me.

Definitely an upgrade from Gen 2 which looked blimpish depending on color. Kinda meshed the Tundra and the 4Runner together finally. Most Tree owners hated to admit that the 4Runner had much better styling than the Tree. Glad Toyota got this right. Probably going to be about 5 years before I get this one. I'm still on Gen 1. 03 Tree with 250k and still humming.

@Conner F. Thank you Connor, as this has been reported for several years now, even before 3rd Durango refresh appeared in 2020 for MY 2021 as a placeholder/stopgap to tide things over.
Why most so called "car enthusiasts" miss these things, beats me. I've known the Durango would go body on frame since 2018 or so, not be killed off. Just like the clowns who obtusely said, only weeks to a few months ago, "Toyota's killing off the Sequoia" Now, low and behold. Just silly ignorance.
People who don't know what they're talking about, should refrain from commenting on given subjects to not confuse or misinform others.

@Xienty It has not been "13" for the Sequoia. Very easy to know off the top of your head, it was new for 2008 and 2008 MY most likely means launched in late 2007 (most cases). This isn't rocket science, it's very simple stuff.

LX600 should have gone this way, panoramic roof, hybrid engine, and a clean interior design. I think many potential LX buyers in the NA will go with the new sequoia (at least I will do that).

Not bad, I always hated the look of the Sequoia but loved the 4runner. Just looks like a bigger version. Kept the sharp looking front end from the tacoma and 4runner and put it on this. 👍🏻

Great, a plus-sized Land Cruiser, the headlines, hybrid-only power (one wonders, was the non-hybrid too slow vs that EcoBoost 3.5 V6 Expedition) and Toyota goes from fully independent rear suspension back to a multi-link live (solid) axle rear suspension, like the 1st Sequoia, the sliding 3rd-row seat less impressive now, there's a reason GM had to do an independent rear suspension vs keeping their live axle setup, 3rd-row space, Toyota can slide that 3rd as much as they want to, it was already on the smaller size to start with, losing legroom height (legs in the chest) and load floor space won't help, that load floor looks a lot higher than the competition, I'm guessing it will keep the same wheelbase as the previous-gen, funny how everyone is like, it tows more than the GM full-size body on frame SUVs, Ford has been doing this for generations and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer does it, yet, GM still outsells them all combine, people love their GM full-size body on frame SUV, good job Toyota, a few questions, how does it have a panoramic sunroof, come in a hybrid setup, offer a fully digital instrument cluster, and offer power running boards, whereas the Toyota flagship Lexus LX600 doesn't offer any of these, clearly there's NO need for the Land Cruiser in the US market with this new-gen Sequoia, did Toyota just create a headache for the new-gen Lexus LX600, seriously, I would pick one of the Big 3 over this, but out of this or the LX600, I would pick the new-gen Sequoia, it’s like Toyota focused more on what Land Cruiser buyers wants/needs and not the Sequoia buyers, could Toyota be trying to switch those buyers to the upcoming large 3-row CUV Toyota is building, as for the new-gen Sequoia probably one of the most disappointing replacements of a previous model, but as a Land Cruiser replacement, that’s a different story, will probably sale about as well as it can, losing the 3-row space and car area space could be a problem
