In all honesty this game is super fascinating to me because I took a medical ethics course last semester and the medical questions in this video were oftentimes real issues that have happened and people had to make this choice. But also most of the time Charlie picked the one that is generally agreed upon to be the worse choice

@Spaghetti I disagree, context matters hugely. To say that the Fat Man problem equates to the trolley switching problem fails to take into consideration like. Anything in the scenario.
You are not sacrificing someone by switching the tracks, you are changing the tracks to limit the risk.
In a real life version of it, you'd call out to the single person and make sure they get out of the way. Yes, they didn't have a choice that the train was put in their way, but that's an implied danger of being on a track period.
Meanwhile, the fat man does *not* choose. You are essentially making a bold assumption, (as it's presented in most trolley problems) taking someone's life into your own hands, and committing murder. You never ask this man to risk his life, nor do you divulge the information he could stop the track, you simply push him off and pray it works. Even in equivalent situations, it still should be left to the victim, since their life is the one at risk.
Thought experiments like these are, imo, ridiculously reductive of actual problems and situations. Although it should be noted that with this game that's the whole point. It's why you're insulted for picking the "wrong" option.

I see it as a matter of morals versus ethics. Morally, I think it would be better to give the heart to the young, but I would rather live in a world where we give to the scheduled.
For the child and the tunnel with the AI, the reasoning for the child is you DO NOT want to give an AI choice to kill it's passengers. You DO NOT want AI that will drive off a cliff if it detects a child on the road, because if something goes wrong and that ISN'T a child on the road, it has just killed it's passengers for nothing.

You know, this game *does* have a message, but it’s really hard to take it seriously when it presents you with harvesting the organs of a random patient to give to other people like its a perfectly okay thing to do (which wasn’t in this video, but was a choice in the THC/Hospital section)

@No Lube The race thing was brought up because if a self driving car can't detect black women and avoid killing them, more black women will die due to AI bias. It's also a huge problem in real life. Facial recognition AI is used to match criminal suspects against people so police can identify suspects. The issue is that the AI is more likely to misidentify a black person as the suspect, which means innocent black people are more likely to be arrested. This already happens without the use of facial recognition AI, but since people don't know about racial bias in AI, they could be more likely to believe a black person is guilty if an AI matches them against a criminal. If this was admissible in court as evidence, it would make trials even more unfair than they already are.
Wasn't that the one where you would save 5 other patients by harvesting the organs of a healthy patient? If that is the one, it's pretty much a more extreme twist on the traditional trolley problem. In the traditional trolley problem, you can divert a train which was going to kill 5 people and kill one person instead. You are taking an action that leads to someone dying as opposed to inaction that leads to 5 people dying.
In the hospital version, you are taking the organs of someone who wouldn't have died otherwise to save 5 people who would've died. You're taking an action that leads to someone dying instead of inaction that leads to 5 people dying. If we frame it this way, the concept is identical to the traditional trolley problem, but the idea of harvesting organs from a healthy person seems worse for some reason.
@Pan Manteca exactly, some of this tests question are purposefully made to see the extent you would reach, how much are you willing to do before you consider its murder, before you realize you've taken someone's life, pulling a lever is easy, pushing some could be too, but, being the one to take it with your gloved hands, the human might react different, even though they are all the same, they give the same result.
The thing is you're not supposed to question it, like the mith of the cavern, how did those slaves get trapped in a cave? Doesn't matter, what matters is what you would answer, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THERE ARE 2 OPTIONS CLEARLY EXPLAINED ON THE SCREEN, PICK ONE!!

The ai facial recognition is actually an interesting thing, because ai actually struggles recognizing women and people of color because the majority of people developing and testing the technology is primarily white men
@Monté F they're more talking about facial recognition. a lot of the testing and development is done by white men, so its only good at recognizing white men. anyone with a different skin tone or face shape has issues with it, because it's literally not designed to work on them. its a similar issue that color film used to have- it was only developed with white people in mind, so people of color had to deal with color film just not handling their skin tones well in any way
While that’s funny, I don’t think it’s fully that. Many scanners on things like sinks and soap dispensers don’t see me as a person because of my skin tone. It probably has to do with things like depth and shape are harder for scanners to perceive since not as much light is being reflected off darker skin. Also Asia is the lead on that sort of technology, so white isn’t even the issue
Self driving cars rely more on radar and lidar than just cameras, I think teslas just don’t use the cameras for anything but reading signs. So for cars it shouldn’t be a problem, maybe. But for anything where you need to know if it’s a person based only on appearance, ai is trash atm.

@McBehrer I mean, yes, they COULD do that, but why? The game is pretty obviously mainly a parody of the "Trolley Problem" and how nonsensical it is. I mean the third or fourth question is literally "would you push an overweight man in front of a train in order to stop that train before it can hit 5 people" so I don't exactly think it is meant to be taken so seriously. Just like the narrator constantly "gaslighting" you, it's because it is a comedic medium through which to channel the whole "people with a contrary viewpoint." And I mean, saying the game gaslights you is a very obvious thing when it literally says "this is why you should have saved the dog" but also gave you no chance to save the dog.

It's not posed like "oh, this group didn't like that." It's put forth like it's a neutral, reliable narrator, telling you that you did the actually, objectively wrong thing.
The game is gaslighting you, basically. If the message was supposed to be "you can't please everyone," I think it fails at that, because instead it comes across as "you're simultaneously an idiot AND a malicious monster." somehow.

If anyone is curious, the game is Trolly Problem Inc. It's a fine game at first but it starts flopping once the writers start getting a little pretentious and wildly disrespectful to the serious topics it starts talking about. It's only really entertaining here because Charlie is great when it comes to comedy and reacting with chat. 90% of the game is just actively trying to make you feel like a shit person and its heavy handed commentary towards the end is just written poorly.
Basically, only bother with it if you're the kind of person that could make something like Anthem fun

I really lost the plot of this game after the cars were possessed, I'll be honest. Like how did we get to the secret service after being considered a disgrace because of the cars? i always find it absolutely unfair to change who gets the heart, after it apparently was already scheduled to go to the old man.

Yeah, organ transplant is such a strictly run operation. It takes on average five YEARS to get an organ, even longer if it’s a heart. Transplant patients have to live within a certain distance of the hospital because they have to be ready to at any point jump into a taxi and get that surgery. If someone is scheduled for a surgery, they are getting that organ RIGHT NOW and there is NO WAY to stop it. That organ is getting stuck inside them as soon as possible. Any doctor who tries to stop that transplant is instantly going to get their license removed and possibly even arrested depending on where they are and the laws of medical malpractice. The idea that this is a possible ethical decision is absurd. The transplant committee does not allow any more moral dilemmas than what already exists.

About 12 minutes into the video, and I felt the need to comment this: For the AI recording one, it honestly feels to me like a moot point. Police/Courts/Whomever can always issue a subpoena to get that information; Meaning there's no need to even "break" into their files or whatever.

The more correct solution to the heart question, is to ask _the elderly man_ whether he believes his life is worth more than the young men's. Otherwise it's not that different from killing someone to use their organs to save someone else. No matter the age.

I love how its went from basinal moral dilemmas like the trolley problem and AI cars but HOLY MOTHER DID THAT TAKE A CRACKED OUT TURN OF EVENTS
Honestly, I kinda felt it was more interesting when it was actual dilemmas.
It tried to convey a story through it but its complete craziness makes you dilluted to the actual choices, and the thing is, since you dont have consequences to what you choose, it ends up feeling unaffecting.
It also dosent help that some questions are like "(Morally Good choice) and (Choice that is only there to be funny, its clearly wrong and inmoral in a hundred ways) or, "would you rather".
The whole demon thing was interesting, and if it was made the focus, not in a intrusive way, maybe playing with the mechanics of the game, for example, affecting the timer or completley deleting it at times, tricking you, or making fakes statistics to show manipulation.
Anway id rate it a Gloop out of Slime.

It's so weird, the game tells you only a part of the story and then like, yeah one of those guys worked really hard for that job or yeah that young guy was a drunk driver, gotcha. No, that's not how moral problems work. You tell the entire story, they aren't made to make you feel bad about your decision after you thought about it in depth.
