Why do people order fine steak well done? Do they put ketchup on it too? I can’t believe I’m going to type this, but, I think I’d love to have a live old time singer during dinner once in a while!

All those saying "I like the U.K. version so much better, Gordon was so calm..." THIS IS THE FIRST EPISODE, it changes. I think the biggest difference is the style of the film and the European banter. I enjoy this because of the documentary feel to it, and the cultural differences. It's a learning experience! I don't think it's better or worse than the U.S. version. It's just different. Enjoy!

Are there any Brits here that can answer if saying “fuck off” like the way Gordon does when he tells them to go on the street and invite customers is considered normal like just a casual fuck off as in move your ass or is it the same as US where it comes off as mean and angry regardless of how your tone is?

  • Shinji Bing
Shinji Bing 5 months ago +1

The UK Original version of Kitchen Nightmares seems so different, just goes to show you just how much American entertainment especially Fox will ruin something already made as a hit and change the actual food and care aspect of the show to focus on just Gordon’s anger and creating over exaggerated drama via bad food basically for everything served, dirty kitchens and owner arguments while this UK version clearly shows more care for the actual cooking of the food and how the kitchen works.

I was feeling a bit sorry for Tim until he mouthed off to the owner, but even worse what he said to the camera behind her back. His true colors came out and it's obvious he took advantage of a naïve, in-dire-straits owner with his game of b/s. Nothing gave me more pleasure than to see the look on his face when Ramsay popped in a month later. Talk about deer-in-the-headlights look. Can you say 'Busted'!

For everyone who says he's nicer here than in the US Kitchen Nightmares - I'm not sure he is. The music is less dramatic, for sure, and there's less hustle and bustle because people don't seem to flock in just to see him, but I don't think he's 'nicer'. He is still just as blunt. And he does go off when he goes through the fridges and the freezers which are a fraction of the nastiness that he finds in some of the U.S. places. Same Ramsay. Different music and production.

I came here from the Kitchen Nightmares U.S. episodes to watch the original series because the U.S. ones are too dramatized. Watching this episode made me realize that the original series is WAY BETTER because it’s more honest and also more SAD (regarding the owner at the end of her rope and a STUPID head chef).

7:40 One reason why I don't like restaurants. It seems that every Chef in the world thinks that "fine dining" means "squirt sauce around the food".
Gordon Ramsay: "You don't know when your own food is burnt?"
    Chef: "No.
GR: "You don't know when it's spoiled?"
    Chef: "No."
GR: "Do you know when it's on the plate?"

Most of my family smokes, I used to smoke...that's not a good enough excuse for not being able to taste the difference between lamb, pork and beef imo. I think they were just kids with no training who were trusting enough not to contradict Gordon. Gordon was asking what type of beef it was, how well it was cooked - those lads (especially Tim) were so focused on trying to get the right answer to a trick question.
I mean if you're blindfolded and Gordon Ramsay tells you its beef, are you gonna argue? :P

  • WheresWallace4883
    WheresWallace4883 9 months ago +3

Man, the difference between the UK series and the US one is like night and day. The lack of dramatic music, the lack of constant fast-paced editing, the naturalistic camerawork, the understated narration from Gordon.... it all works to give the impression that these are real restaurants in real places run by real people with real problems, the polar opposite of the US series.

    • WheresWallace4883
      WheresWallace4883 7 months ago

    • AJ 1978
      AJ 1978 7 months ago +1

Also, there is variation as to the problem. On the US show, the chef is always incompetent. Here there are actually episodes with good chefs but mistakes in the business plan, location, marketing etc.

    • Badger Goodger
Badger Goodger 8 months ago +2

They clearly tried to go for more drama with the US version, especially people's personal drama. Both shows were produced by the same company, so I have no idea if the editing was Fox's doing or if Optomen believed that Americans have short attention spans and prefer action movie music playing in the background the entire time.

He’s not a professional chef, amateur at best and I’m being realistic not rude. But I am feeling sorry for Tim and idk why because it’s his fault for not being qualified and lying his way in. And cleaning the fridge/freezer takes no time if you do it when you’re supposed to and don’t get caught lacking on it. I pray for the best for Tim and hope he’s got training and is still cooking I know after serving worlds best chef (at the time) a rancid scallop doesn’t look good on a resume. #RaNCiDsCaLlOps
