I got my 2060 yesterday and it is playing Overwatch at 4K 60 with no trouble. All I had to do was turn anti-aliasing completely off and, let’s be honest, anti-aliasing really doesn’t do much at 4K anyway.
I’m also able to run Doom 2016 at 4K and a locked 60 at Ultra settings with zero concessions and it NEVER dips.
Fortnite runs 4K and performs 53-60 FPS on a mix between Ultra and high settings, again, anti-aliasing disabled.
My point being, despite what most TheXvidrs claim, 2060 is a viable 4K card for many games, even without DLSS or Variable Rate Shading support.
Of course, there are exceptions. Destiny 2 struggles to maintain stable performance at 4K. This can be fixed by dropping to medium settings but, at that point I would rather run 1440 and a locked 60 FPS at Ultra.
Overall, I’m VERY pleased with the 2060.

ROG Mothership and Predator Triton 900 are based on gimmicks, they're pointless and nobody will want them. (The Triton 500, on the other hand, looks awesome, bears follow up reviews)
You smushed the G5 and G7 in with the Area 51m but I think they deserve a spot of their own. They made a lot of improvements this year and could wind up being the mid-priced yet high performance laptop to recommend in 2019.

The Allienware Area 51-M is nice but buy it as it is. The upgrading part seems like a nice dream, but mainly that.. a dream and here is why I think that will be the case:
1 The next CPU will most likely use a new socket type so that means you will not be able to replace it with the next gen. You will have be able to replace/repair it if it fails or upgrade/downgrade with models that are already out.
2 The GPU upgradeablility is a gamble. You will always depend on them providing new upgrades.
    3. Maybe I didn't look long enough but unless they also provide changeable powering solutions then it might not handle the next gen of CPUs and GPUs.
So.. easier to service/ repair but i would not recommend it just for the upgrade/future-proof aspect.

So the RTX 2060 with no meaningful new tech inside is on the first place and the first 7 nm GPU is on the 3rd.
And yes, real-time ray tracing doesn't mean a thing. It's only available in 2 games and drops your frame rate significantly. That's probably why it's been around for longer than the time nVidia chose to introduce it, but not on consumer cards. It makes no sense for consumers unless they manage to secure a good frame rate.

$700 is not bad? You can get vega 64s right now for $400 new, $300 for 25% seems super lame to me. It holds its own with the 2080 for the price of the 2080 but with no real time ray tracing or DLSS, which aren't things I particularly care about but more features at the same cost makes nVidia look better on a launch they've caught what seems like never ending flak for, specifically because of the increased cost. 16gb of HBM2 making it too expensive whilst providing nothing for gaming, and you can't even make the cheaper freesync monitor argument anymore because nVidia is adding support for that too. If you were going to pick something from the AMD keynote, Zen 2 (3000 series) beating the i9 9900k at the same core/thread count but with lower power consumption is awesome. Even if the current rumors are false and they bring it to market at the same price or a bit more than Zen+ at the same core count it's going to bring amazing value to the CPU space

The Nvidia RTX 2080 graphics cards are mostly gimmick. You're getting a paltry 20% performance increase (you hope) for a 200% markup over its predacessor (going from about $600 to well over $1200 (plus tax)).

$350 is not "low" for a 2060. It's about the same as what the 1070 was when it was released in May of 2016, and it's slower than a 1070 ti. It's also 100 more than the 6GB 1060 launched at, despite supposedly being in the same kind of niche. It's performance per dollar is worse than the 1060's was when it was launched back in 2016. This is utter bullshit. This channel is clearly biased toward Nvidia, and you should not trust them.

AMD hinting that there are HUGE things coming - that's what I loved - RYZEN 3000 - Only a couple people actually are talking about it even though they made it clear without just up and saying it out loud. AMD is playing Trumps "ART OF THE DEAL" building huge hype and a lot of talk about their new cpu's -- they are now making both intel and nvidia sweat bit time. The market shows as well, people are waiting for AMD to drop the new hardware - the new top tier with mid tier price hardware. I believe they are making sure their production can keep up with the demand as to not get bad reviews on waiting for the product if ever it gets backordered. Anyone else agree? Oh and its nice to see case manufacturers finally taking airflow into consideration again - because 2018 sucked for cases to be honest. I've been rocking an asus x99 deluxe with the usb 3.1 expansion card - the first version top board at the time - with a intel i7 5820k (3.2) overclocked at 4.8ghz with a modded 2 240mm radiator corsair h100i gtx aio loop that i soldered 4 pwm wire leads to the "OPEN UNPOPULATED HALF OF THE AIO BOARD" to get access to two more pwm fans for the 2nd radiator (really pisses me off that they don't give you that extra option from the factory because IT'S THERE - YOU PAY FOR IT- BUT THEY DON'T POPULATE IT UNLESS YOU GET A DAMN 3 FAN RADIATOR OR 4 FAN RADIATOR!) (but I digress!) - with a evga titan x gtx sc and corsair vengeance lpx 2400 8x4 32 gig of ram overclocked to 2800 (I hear 4000 ram is coming out now wth! how fast can DDR4 get?!) and corsair RM750i psu in a modded nzxt phantom 530 full tower atx case. Now upgrading really makes me nervous because damn it... 6 months after I got my Maxwell titan x gtx sc evga gpu... the fricken pascal version came out -- then another pascal version - and now the fricken TITAN RTX is $2,500 US - SO I WAIT - my rig was almost that price all together, a little bit more than that but yeah... I wait... I am waiting because I am tired of the bs from Nvidia and Intel - their prices suck - the 2060 sucks - ray-tracing sucks - my titan x gtxx Maxwell still has some better specs - they get a tax break from the government but yet they fkng DOUBLED THE COST OF THEIR TITAN WHICH IS USUALLY AROUND $1,200. I would also never buy a laptop - they do nothing but make your balls sweat - just being brutally honest - how is it that people buy these $3,000 laptops that are no matter how you look at it, gimped versions of the desktop counterparts that are less expensive but more powerful and overclock-able? It's about as stupid as buying a phone for $1,000 or near that ridiculous price. CES coverage this year was nothing but click bait and unrelated youtubers doing sponsored ads - such as linus - i dont even know what the hell he even reported on other than that piece of shit phone case and screen protector that I don't know the name of because I tried skipping over it in every single video he posted the last week or so. - Everyone did the same crap. And youtube is getting worse making people do all that crap because of their censorship an attacks on conservative free speech. To NVIDIA -- "NO IT DOES NOT JUST WORK - IT LAGS WHEN RAYTRACING IS ON AND YOU CANT FULLY TURN IT OFF UNLESS YOU BIOS HACK THE F*CKING GPU.....

Since Alienware is still a Dell, im 99% positive you either have to send it in for a hefty cost to upgrade. And/OR the parts will be stupid expensive from Dell only. Or the grey market parts will be super shady if they're cheap.
Also feel like the RTX2060 "running during the demo" thing has to be BS. What company in their right mind would take their lowest quality product and use it to represent their new lineup including their new flagship at any show.

#2, when the graphics module is disabled it means they can sell all the chips where there were manufacturing problems in the graphics parts, so while a lot of them might just have a disabled part, a significant part will be chips where the graphics module is actually broken, this enables them to sell more chips, and thus lower prices for everyone.

This is seriously depressing, the fact "they" can sell a computer for 5 thousand dollars because there are actually people who will buy it, when I am stuck using a machine that is over 12 years old because I can't afford the 600 dollar computer I have my eye on. And then referring to a 300 dollar video card as a "budget" card.

I gotta admit though, Nvidia are brilliant at times. Just as AMD has a new card coming out... they announce full freesync support in their upcoming drivers... and even some GSYNC support for a small handful of freesync monitors also.
I think the main thing is just freesync, but if your lucky enough to have one of those freesync monitors that'll work also with gsync, thats great.
Its good news though since i would never have bought a gync monitor, so i can finally turn on some freesync with my nvidia card instead of buying a power hungry AMD video card.

  • Webbie
    Webbie 5 days ago

AMDs new video card is a pretty big let down. 700 USD, for a card that will maybe match the 2+ year old 1080ti... but uses 300 watts vs the 250 watts the 1080ti uses.
May as well bite the bullet, pay the nvidia tax of 100-150 more for a 2080 and get a card that uses less power and has more features (eventually RTX/DLSS may get used in more games)
AMD should be selling this for 500 dollars max, but this high price just makes people wonder if they should just get the nvidia one instead since its just a bit more but more efficient.

    • Marc Brown
      Marc Brown 5 days ago

And hasn't Nvidia already done that with the 2080? This is a big jump for AMD. Can you at least watch an official review of the card before putting it down? (I'll give you a hint reviews are not out yet)

1 - Ryzen 3. Equaling the i9 9900K for probably less than half the money as this was the mid-end model.
2- Finally we seem to be getting some more affordable better monitors. The tv market has moved so much last years. Comparatively, the PC gaming market has been stagnant and very overpriced.
3 - Radeon VII finally offers some sort of alternative for nVidia. Now, if they just get rid of 8GB of that expensive HBM2 and drop the price by $200 it will be very interesting. At the current MSRP it is just interesting for workstations with that huge memory bandwidth.

I have a feeling Intel's new integrated graphics is going to surprise a lot of people. It won't replace the market for high end dedicated graphics cards, but it might take a bite out of the budget for the lower end market. And I believe this would include Surface or Surface Pro users who don't have the option (yes, I know they're expensive, but we might be seeing high end graphics on a tablet pretty soon). Looking forward to seeing how it goes.
